This should be a big hit out of the gate, but seeing where it's at in two weeks will be really interesting. Personally, I agree with many that this is unfortunately the worst thing they have put out in a while. I'm not sure if it is going resonate well with their usual audience.

I'm so disappointed in this. This song is just so bland and vanilla. And I usually like a lot of Ryan Tedder's stuff...so that's saying a lot. Their worst lead single to date IMO.

The Police written all over this song. I've heard this song so far only once and it was ok. I would for sure prefer to play my Police albums instead though.

Maroon 5 I consider to be the new Police. The comparison won't seem so ridiculous in hindsight.

This sounds fantastic on the radio with a little bit of grit behind it. Thumbs up from me!

After being not so sure about it yesterday, today I'm loving it. It's a fast grower.

Adam's voice grates way too much on this song. I wish he didn't come across as so whiny on this track. A decent song, but doesn't sound like a lead single to me.

I think this song is out a little too soon for Maroon 5 in the long run. Right, I understand that they want to strike when the iron is hot (obviously huge demand on radio, haven't seen this much for a "rock" (if we consider them that anymore) since...Nickelback?), but could this be a little soon for a single and album already for them? I think a few singles in people will be tired of Maroon 5 by then.
While it would be very difficult for anyone to mimic the success of Overexposed let alone Maroon 5, I just see this album not performing nearly as well, opening a door afterwards for a Maroon 5 hiatus of 5 years or so, opening a door for a Adam Levine solo album as soon as soon as early 2016, it just seems like it will happen.

I mean, I guess you could say that people will be tired of them, but pop audiences sometimes never get tired of artists. I see them operating like a male-band Katy Perry in that they make fun, somewhat generic at times, feel good pop music that can get played millions of times a week and pop audiences still gobble it down no matter what. I do think that they are milking it though. They almost broke up around the Hands All Over era (or took a hiatus) and I think the only reason we are getting these two back-to-back REALLY poppy cds is because Adam's celebrity took off and MLJ became an unbelievably massive hit. I don't blame them. Can you imagine how much money they made? Nevertheless, I think ultimately the result will still be the same as you predicted-a hiatus and solo Adam cd at some point in the near future. We will see though. As long as they are delivering solid music I will listen.

Their album is dropping right around the time the Voice is coming back in the fall. They know what a huge boon that is for sales. I'm not at all surprised they have an album coming out at that time. Even if the singles flop (which this one pretty obviously isn't based on initial radio & sales reaction), they can still move a decent number of units just based on Voice promo. I mean, look at Shakira's album (not that it's sales have been spectacular, but definitely better than the performance of the singles would suggest)

I mean - this is only Maroon 5's 5th album in 12 years. Granted, much of that gap came between the first and second albums, but still.

Songs About Jane took about two years to get rolling, so it's almost 5 albums in 10 years, that is almost every other year, which is a bit quick for rock acts, but then again, only the first and latest was really "huge" you could say.
I was looking at charts from ten years ago, funny to see "She Will Be Loved" just starting to be shipped to CHR\Pop stations. I mean I don't think there was too many people who didn't say, "this is a #1 hit" after hearing it a few times, while on the other hand, Maps...not even close to feeling the same way and they have had two years to come up with that one.
That being said, while I pretty much hated the last album, Maroon 5 is still barnone one of the best Pop\Rock Acts of the past ten years, just would like to see them return to their rock roots.

There's a part of me that thinks Adam Levine is 10-15 years too old to be doing that "to youuuu" part, but the song is absolutely growing on me.

I'm just now listening to the song...I didn't realize they were releasing something new this month I like it a lot, though I strangely find myself wishing the key was a half-step lower for some reason. It's a typical M5 song - not revolutionary in the least, quite comfortably melodic and nonthreatening to the average listener - and radio loves typical M5, so I'm not surprised it's doing well. I'd rank squarely it in the middle for M5 lead singles - definitely above "Misery" and "Payphone" for me, but below "Harder to Breathe" and "Makes Me Wonder." I personally would rather they have released the single closer to the start of the Voice, rather than a few months ahead of it, but I suppose it probably won't make a difference in how well the song or album does in the end. Maroon 5 I consider to be the new Police Hall & Oates. I generally love M5's music, but Adam Levine could only wish to have the charisma of Sting or the soul of Hall. Maybe it's just b/c they're still too current for me to see the parallels at the moment, but there's not much about Maroon 5 that strongly brings to mind H&O or the Police. [---edit - on second thought I think I might have been misinterpreting you guys here, I thought you were making career comparisons, not comparing the music itself. Obviously M5 is influenced by the Police, not so much H&O]
