#6. Britney Spears - Toxic 1 week at #1 in 2004 (#1 of 29 for '04)
Britney has had a very solid singles discography (for the most part), and "Toxic" is one of her finest. The song is about being addicted to someone that's "toxic" for her. Her voice is very airy and high-pitched throughout a lot of this song. Especially in the pre-chorus and chorus... until she says the words "I'm addicted to you; Don't you know that you're toxic", which jumps to much lower pitch and she sounds pretty dramatic when that switch happens. The instrumental also intensifies during that part. It climaxes with those high-pitched strings. Though, those strings are prominent throughout the entire song. This song has always sounded ahead of its time, production-wise. Moreso in the US in the middle of the urban music domination. Either way, this production is incredible. It's one of her most well known videos. It's probably my favourite Britney song ever.

The other one is a dark horse though... You have Katy in your top 5? lol no. She couldn't even land a song in my top 100. If only "Teenage Dream" or "Hot N Cold" had gone #1.

"Toxic" As Julian said before, I was expecting it to be inside the Top 5 :( Anyway, this is one of my favourite singles from Britney and everything is perfect on it, including the production from Bloodshy & Avant. I'm so glad she pushed it to be released instead of "(I Got That) Boom Boom" and "Outrageous". I still don't like the latter though~ Oh! And the diamond outfit is the best thing ever in the video.

"We Found Love" and "Toxic" are amazing, so I'm really glad they're this high. The girl group songs are good too.
What's left? I can't even think of five.

#5. P!nk - Just Like A Pill 1 week at #1 in 2002 (#1 of 29 for '02)
I'll never understand how this became a UK #1. Besides "Lady Marmalade", she never had a #1 single before. She had 5 other top 10 hits before this (with "Get The Party Started" peaking at #2), but she didn't seem to be a threat to top the chart in the same way that Britney, Christina, etc were in this time period. Her only other #1 after this is "So What". Maybe she was just extremely lucky in a dead week, I don't know, but I'm really glad this managed to be a #1. This is my favourite P!nk song ever. The "Run just as fast as I can..." part works as a very strong hook. I think this song is comparing her relationship to drug addiction (which is becoming a common theme in the upper end of this list now..) But it's showing the nasty side of the addiction. Instead of it making her better, it keeps making her ill. And lyrics like "I tried to call the nurse again but she's being a little bitch" are exactly why I love P!nk.

#4. Lady Gaga - Bad Romance 2 weeks at #1 in 2009 / 2010 (#1 of 32 for '09)
This is the most successful song in my personal chart's 5 year history. And it remains one of my favourite songs ever. Right at the peak of my Gaga obsession days. I was in love with everything that she was doing during The Fame era. And then she drops a new single in late 2009 and I was extremely excited. The first time I heard this song was on my local radio's show where they battle 2 new songs against each other. And one of those songs was "Bad Romance". I have no memory of what the other one was; but that doesn't matter. That first time I heard this song, I was like "OMG THIS IS THE MOST AMAZING CATCHIEST SONG EVER OMG". And I had to hear it again. And again. And again. And then when the video came out, I was obsessed even more. I LOVED this video to death. All the imagery in it. This song is packed full of hooks like "Woah-oah-oah-oah-oah", "love love love I want your love", and of course the infamous "rah-rah-ah-ah-ah romah-rom-mah-mah ga-ga-oh-la-la". This song is about being in love and how that includes loving their flaws too. Their ugly side. RedOne's production is amazing.

#3. Madonna - Frozen 1 week at #1 in 1998 (#1 of 30 for '98)
This might be my all time favourite Madonna song. Either this or "Like A Prayer". William Orbit's euphoric production, coupled with the "mmmm" parts, are just perfect. It all captures a certain mood that I can't quite explain. So does the video. Despite the fact that it was filmed in a desert, the video looks so cold. That's the point, though. It's desolate and uninviting. And Madonna is dressed all in black and appears just as closed off. I love the lyrics, too.

"Just Like a Pill", "Bad Romance", and "Frozen" are all too perfect. It's fitting that they made the top five.
Now, for numbers one and two. The only songs left are "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and "Pure Shores", so I'm curious as to which one will be your number one.

#2. Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head 4 weeks at #1 in 2001 (#1 of 30 for '01)
"la la la la la la la la la la..." yeah you get it. So this song was massive worldwide, and was her first song to beak America in over a decade. It went #1 almost everywhere. The US, as always, being one of the few places it didn't go #1. Kylie had her comeback the previous year with "Spinning Around" and the Light Years album. She continued with the dance music style with the Fever era, though notably being less camp and more straight-up pop. "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" has all the elements of a perfect pop song. It has a catchy hook (the aforementioned "la la la la la".) It has a simple meaning. The dance-pop production is really infectious. Fever is a solid album and I'm not surprised she had a few other hits off of it. I believe they all received a ton of airplay in the UK. Kylie's voice is very airy and gentle and soothing (I don't really know how else to describe it) on this. The video is cute too.

#1. All Saints - Pure Shores 2 weeks at #1 in 2000 (#1 of 42 for '00)
I mentioned William Orbit's euphoric production as being effing fantastic on "Frozen". Well it's even better on "Pure Shores". This song defines escapism. Listening to it always takes me to another place far away. A calm, serene place. A place I can call my own. That's what the song is about, afterall. Searching for a place to escape to. But it's out of reach. Beaches and shores are often seen as paradises (like a tropical vacation or whatever), and that's the analogy used in the song. I especially love the bridge ("I move it; I feel it; I'm coming; Not drowning") and it sets up the final chorus well. Their voices are really soothing on this song and that definitely adds to the atmosphere. With a top 10 full of my favourites like Kylie, Madonna, Gaga, Rihanna, Girls Aloud, etc., my overall #1 winds up being by an artist that I don't even like that many songs from. Though it sticks my girl group obsession. Either way, it's still a bit of a dark horse that won out. "Pure Shores" does what a lot of other pop songs don't. The song is more of a feeling than anything else. This is a serious contender for my favourite song ever. That title is really difficult to determine, though, and I don't think I ever will determine it... but it is my favourite UK #1 of my entire life so far!

Thanks to everyone that followed this list. I'm not *quite* done yet. There's been about 12-13 #1's since this list started and I want to add those in sometime soon. But it's been a fun experience. And a long experience. I started this in June and that already feels like forever ago. Feels weird to finally be done.

Will "Ghost" and/or "Prayer In C" be top 50? Will "Rude" rank lower than "The Man"? Stay tuned...

Ray of Light is my personal favorite Madonna song but Frozen is really good too. And your #2 is a great throwback track (ironically, it's become the most popular Kylie song in the US outside of her cover of the Loco-Motion)) and I haven't heard your #1 but I bet it's good. I vaguely remember Nickelodeon airing it as a video pick but that's about it.

I'm glad to see "Can't Get You Out of My Head" at number two. I never would have guessed "Pure Shores" would have been number one, but it's a good one.
This has been a fun countdown to follow! Great job Ryan! :)
Also, can "Rude" be last? If it didn't like it already (I didn't) then the overplay would have killed it (it did).

"Can't Get You Out of My Head" I can't believe that I forgot this one Anyway, it's so amazing it to be so high, since it's one of favourite tracks from Kylie. It just never get old in my opinion. Regarding "Frozen" and "Pure Shores", both are good ones as well. BTW, Calvin Harris is the only guy inside the Top 10. Yay!
