Maddie & Tae, I am proud to say I'm a big fan of yours. "Girl in a Country Song" is a great example of songs that should be hits for female Country singers.

Even though some bro-country doesn't bother me, I like this song a great deal because it's unafraid to poke fun at something popular, and it has a surprising amount of bite for a "novelty" song. My only concern is that I hope Maddie & Tae don't get pigeonholed by this song. Especially in an era where female acts never seem to get any momentum after breaking through with a big hit (ohai, Jana Kramer).

I have faith that they will be a force in country music for years to come. They have so many more songs that are ah-mazing. This one is especially well written: Smoke www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7ToZnAK9xwMR

I've been really impressed by the depth of their music from the videos from their radio tour. Really excited for their EP next month.

I guessed a couple of weeks ago Maddie & Tae would be entering the top 20 at #20 (really #19). Would #14 this week be possible with Dustin Lynch and Kenny Chesney going to recurrentland?

They will likely be at #13 on tonight's Billboard chart. Dustin and Kenny should both go recurrent and they will likely pass The Swon Brothers (even though the Swons are still ahead on Mediabase).

How do you figure? They would have to pass Keith Urban to do so, and they aren't that close to Keith. They didn't really gain any ground on him at all this past week.

After lingering near the bottom of the Callout America chart, this song has moved from 21 to 8 in the last 2 weeks. The ladies have spoken!

Looks like this will enter the top 10 on Billboard next week after only 17 weeks on the chart.
Incredibly impressive to see a debut single climb this quickly – huge congrats to Maddie & Tae. :)

As of now, this is looking like a very strong contender for the top 10 by the end of October. Called it! Hopefully this continues climbing and makes the top 5 at the very least.

I fully expect this to go No. 1 and it'll be so refreshing to see females at the top of the chart (even Miranda and Carrie haven't done so in a couple years now), especially new blood.

Great prediction! :) I think it will easily make the top 5. I'm actually quite confident that it will go to #1--it's been acting like a future #1 for pretty much its entire run up the charts so far. I was hesitant to make that prediction when I first heard it, given radio's general "dislike" (or w/e you want to call it) of female songs and anything that isn't bro-country...and considering this is the exact opposite of that I wasn't sure if it could penetrate the top 10 or not. I did expect this to make an initial splash and be a decent-sized hit because, contrary to what radio believes, there are plenty of people out there who do like female voices and non-bro songs. I was simply hesitant to suggest it could go all the way but GIACS has really looked very strong.

I called this as a number one months ago. Could have been blind optimism, but it's getting there!
I feel like this will face stiff competition from Tim, Brad and Carrie (all non-bro and good songs, imo) in the final days of its run. Hopefully the powers that be will all play nice and let this go #1 to usher in a new era for women in country music....Reba coming back cant hurt either!

I think this song can definitely go to #1, it's been pretty popular. It's their follow up that I'm worried about. Now admittedly i haven't heard any other songs from them, so it's hard to judge, but I'm just worried radio might consider them a one hit wonder type of deal, and this song will be considered a novelty type of song. I don't want to see any of this, but I'm definitely worried about that scenario.

I got to see them perform during their radio tour, and the songs that they performed were very strong/well written ("Smoke", "Sierra", "After the storm blows through"), and they have killer harmony! I met and talked with them for a few moments, and I'm not just saying this because they are young and blonde, but they reminded me of how Taylor Swift was early on in her career- excited to meet and talk with fans, and so very grateful of the opportunity to be playing their music. It was so refreshing. If you have a moment, check out "Smoke", its absolutely incredible...I'm really hoping it will become their second single.

I think dm2081 has got a point here, i mean its hard enough trying to break through as a female act but it's even harder to have a successful follow up single. I mean look at artists like Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope, they both top 20s(in cassadees's case top 10) with their debut songs and neither one could follow it up with even a top 30. Windmills Country did an article on this a little while back. i like these gals a lot as well but i do worry after this song is done

dm2081 and zack97 make good points about country radio's poor track record over the past decade or so when it comes to females and follow-up hits, but I'm feeling (stupidly?) optimistic when it comes to Maddie & Tae. I'm not sure how good my antennae are at detecting a radio hit in the current environment, but "Smoke" sure sounds like one to me. Maddie & Tae also strike me as a natural candidate for On the Verge selection with their next single, since programmers know them from their radio tour and would also know that they have a hit behind them. If that were to pan out, it would guarantee them a top-20 peak with their next single. I also like Maddie & Tae's chances of getting voted by radio programmers to play the CRS New Faces show (not that provides any guarantee of subsequent hits, as we unfortunately saw with Charlie Worsham. And Cassadee Pope, for that matter.). Moreover, if their team is on its game (which based on the TV appearances and press that accompanied the launch of "Girl in a Country Song," it is), Maddie & Tae will likely have the heat of several awards nominations from which to build overall momentum. I would love for that to start with this year's Grammy nominations in December (2014 hasn't been a very deep year for collaborative/group performances in mainstream country, and that gives them a chance, I think). Regardless, Maddie & Tae are this year's third most commercially successful duo (putting Dan+Shay ahead of them for now due to their album sales, though Maddie & Tae will likely finish the year with more momentum) and though it's based mostly on their first single, they have a level of critical regard that no other charting country duo has right now. This makes them a shoo-in for an ACM Vocal Duo nod. They are also likely to be among the ACM New Artist semifinalists subject to fan voting. If I had my way, "Girl in a Country Song" would make its way into the Song & Single categories. Those nominations are typically announced in early February, if I'm not mistaken. So that would provide an opportunity for more media, more performances, etc. In any event, I'm glad to see "Girl in a Country Song" about to move into the top-10 on the airplay charts, and glad to see it among the top-10 country songs at iTunes, as well.

Never in my 18+ years as a country music listener has there been such as enormous gap in the quality of music by the females at the format as opposed to the males, and this electrifying song only widens the gap; of course it's downright infuriating the the males hog the airplay charts and will dominate the year-end charts as well. 2015 can't get here soon enough for yours truly.
This is definitely among the very best debut singles of the past 15 years; no doubt about it.

Wow, just listened to "Smoke", "Sierra", and "After the Storm Blows Through" and all 3 are absolutely fantastic. I am quickly becoming a huge fan of these girls. I'm so excited that GIACS is almost top ten and looking to head straight to the top. The last country act led by a female vocalist to get their first #1 hit was, what, The Band Perry? Little Big Town? That's quite a sad statistic. So thank God for Maddie & Tae. Hopefully they'll have many more #1 hits after this one.

I hope these girls can their sustain success, too. It's been forever since we had a girl duo or band at country radio. I miss The Wreckers; I really wish they would've stayed together and kept making music. These girls are the closest thing since though, so I am very excited about their future in the business.

They could very well fit that Dixie Chicks niche that radio is really missing.

Also impressed by everything I've heard from them-they sing very well live which is a huge plus in my book. Can't wait for their album.
