More poppy than I could have expected as I'm used to hearing him through Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin. I have so much damn respect for Andrew McMahon after his winning battle with leukemia and how talented he is as a musician and songwriter while fighting through it. I remember Jack's Mannequin played a show while I was in college I believe in 2006. He was playing the piano perfectly with his toes. It was freaking amazing.

First impression upon first listen is that it sounds like a mesh of Bastille and Bleachers. I'm not liking the Bleachers vibe.

All bands have thier certain vibe, or else they would all sound the same. The only thing that sounds the same to me is that top 40 urban hip hop "rappy" stuff that all seem to include that old school "hey hey' chanting in the backround, but that's another story. anyway, Indie alt pop is what I shoulda said. The chorus has the vibe I'm talking about. The chanting has the Bastille feel, but little more of "I wanna Get Better"; which I don't like. I could've compared it to other band's material, but I chose Bastille and Bleachers, cuz they seem to be two of the hottest alt Pop Rock bands out there now.

I was always disappointed in both alternative and pop radio for not playing "The Mixed Tape" at all really, and for not playing "The Resolution" more. To me, they both sounded like top 10 Alternative AND CHR hits.

I'm actually surprised now that I'm looking it up that "The Resolution" only hit #27 and "If U C Jordan" (which I wasn't a huge fan of) from Something Corporate hit #29 and were Andrew's only related singles ever to hit in the Top 30.

I like it. However, it sounds just like a Jack's Mannequin track... and JM was a staple in my personal soundtrack of the mid 00's. So while I think this is a good song, it's more low key enjoyment from a nostalgic perspective rather than some fresh sound I'll listen to on repeat in 2014. That said, he's talented as hell, been through some serious shit, and never got the industry and media love that he deserved in the hey day of Everything In Transit. I wish him success. It sounds like a Phoenix song. No.

I heard this for the first time today on the radio. and I really enjoyed it. I didn't know it had any connection to Jack's Mannequin, who I used to like a lot. I hope this finds some success.

Andrew is my fucking hero.
He is absolutely in my mind one of the greater songwriters music has ever seen. He never ceases to amaze me. His music has truly changed my life. Really would love to see this do something. I'm glad it broke Top 50. It's already doing better than I thought it would be!

I don't know how I missed this thread. I only know of Andrew through Jack's Mannequin but I have and really like those three albums so I need to skip out on work now and listen to this.

I'm digging this. Love the chorus and the title of the song. Song titles don't get praised enough but I like this one.

I've been hearing this on the radio periodically since July and I was a fan immediately. As others have mentioned, Andrew McMahon never fails to produce quality music. (I'm willing to disregard "If You C Jordan" since 1) he was only 18 when that was recorded, and 2) I read an interview a few years later where he admitted himself that the song was immature.) I'd completely forgotten about his health problems, so bonus points to him for overcoming those. More poppy than I could have expected as I'm used to hearing him through Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin. To me, they both sounded like top 10 Alternative AND CHR hits. "The Mixed Tape" is easily one of my top 5 favorite songs in which he's been involved. I remember that it managed to peak at #50 on the Alternative chart for one week only because Mediabase had moved a song to recurrent prematurely. That was the one time that I didn't mind seeing Mediabase mess up.

The problem with "If U C Jordan" is it's probably his worst ever song lyrically (musically is isn't terrible though, I guess), and it's moderate success (it's technically one of his biggest hits) obscures his discography, as much better songs have fared much worse and are in it's shadow.

Yeah exactly. I think releasing "If You C Jordan" as Something Corporate's very first single negatively impacted their future chances at radio success, as it made them look like a novelty band. Unless you're Katy Perry, kicking off your career with a novelty song tends to be a death blow to getting future hits.
