Lordeftones
That has nothing to do with what I said. I said if the Active Rock chart made a top 100 of 2014, the song would definately be in one of the higher positions. Maybe even the 50s?

Entertainment was a masterpiece. This...this is a joke. If I ever build a time machine, the first thing I'd do is go back in time to tell Phoenix to make "Trying To Be Cool" the lead single.

No way haha. TTBC is a thing of absolute beauty, definitely my favourite of theirs. I like "Entertainment", I just think it's a weird choice for a single in general, lead or otherwise.

I'm surprised..…I thought you guys would hate Phoenix for the role they played in getting Alternative to actually start playing Alternative music again ...Id argue "1901" was the song that really ignited the indie movement.

I'm not much of an indie fan either, but Phoenix is one of the bands that has an exception.

I'm surprised..…I thought you guys would hate Phoenix for the role they played in g etting Alternative to actually start playing Alternative music again.Comments like this really piss me off. Basically, you're implying that before Phoenix, Alternative wasn't playing Alternative music. This argument is false. In one week in Oct. 2008 (because people keep saying that year was a clone year, although it came close), 14/40 tracks were Active crossovers. That's it. You complained about how they didn't play alternative-only music, but the majority was still primiarily Alternative. And at the same time, you're calling Active Rock songs "unalternative". That's also false. Many Active Rock hits can be classified as Alternative rock. The problem was, in 2008, and in the year I pulled, not many could be deemed alt-rock. Some could be alt-metal, but that's still iffy. Holy crap you're sensitive. I think you might be developping overly defensive tendencies from the pop forum.

Holy crap you're sensitive. I think you might be developing overly defensive tendencies from the pop forum. Well, when I first posted here, you guys were sensitive, so I don't know what to think. The post tolerance on the site is also a bit oversensitive, but I digress. I wouldn't consider any of the other core posters here as being sensitive. It was a joke, clearly distinguished thanks to the tongue smiley. You're taking me far too seriously if you're getting offended by that. Back in the Pen & Nick (RIP :() days you wouldn't have liked it very much if that kinda thing got to you.

I always thought it was "Tighten Up" reaching #1 that started it all. While I had no problem with it getting that high, I wish it (and 1901/Animal/Pumped Up Kicks) didn't convince Alternative to move to more poppier music, and were just quirks at the time.

I always gave credit to "Sex on Fire". It was so different from what else was on the chart.

I think it was "Peek-a-Boo" that started them playing Alternative music.
