How about we have a thread to post country news that we're interested in sharing. I know that sometimes I want to post a news bit but the artist doesn't have a current single so there's no separate thread for it or the news bit really seems out of place if added to a song's thread. And the general Music News forum is way too pop-leaning. We'll see how it goes. If the thread dies, it dies.
From countrynation.com....
Fortunately, I'm planning to go in July but this is disappointing. When Reba scheduled this concert series, I didn't think speculation of the show being canceled had yet surfaced so why wasn't taping already factored in. Secondly, does this one weekend really set the show back, especially since the show was approved for only half the normal episodes. I wonder if ticket sales aren't holding up?
Oh well, at least I'll get to see her in July. Has anyone else been to this show?
Oh...and congrats to Nicole and Keith....

I don't have anything in particular to add to it at the moment, but I like the idea for this topic. I rarely venture into the other parts of Pulse, and agree that the General Music News section is too pop-centric for my taste.

COUNTRY MUSIC STAR DIERKS BENTLEY JETS FROM CMA MUSIC FEST TO DENVER TO FILM A LIVE CONCERT DVDNASHVILLE, TN – June 14, 2006 – Last week was a whirlwind of activity for Capitol Records Nashville singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley. The country music star hosted his annual “Last Call Ball” for his fan club members at Nashville’s Global Café on Wednesday night signing over 600 autographs for the capacity crowd into the wee hours of the morning. On Thursday, Bentley surprised concert-goers at LP Stadium with a 30 minute set including a new track from his next album (to be released in November), and then the “Modern Day Drifter” hopped a 6:00am flight to Denver on Friday morning to film a full-length concert DVD at the famed Fillmore Auditorium in front of a standing-room only crowd. “Making a live show DVD has been a dream of mine for a couple years now,” said Bentley. “I love going to concerts and shows as much as anyone, but it’s hard to do when you travel as much as we do. We have a lot of show DVDs on the bus to help make up for it though...to think we now will have one out there too is a major dream come true.” The hi-definition DVD, which was directed by renowned London based filmmaker Russell Thomas (www.doneanddusted.com) will be released at the end of 2006 or first quarter 2007. “The great thing is that Dierks wanted to do something different, and he really has an incredible creative eye,” says Thomas. “We wanted a very contemporary feel but also a timeless piece that won’t age too quickly. I tried to imagine what a good rock and roll band should look like and then tried to transfer some of that imagery onto country music and Dierks….gritty, grainy, gutsy.” Bentley will stay on the West Coast for the next several weeks for a string of sold-out dates on Kenny Chesney’s “Road & the Radio” tour before returning to Nashville to continue work on his next album. It has been a great year so far for Bentley, who was nominated for the ACM Top Male Vocalist award and whose current single “Settle for a Slowdown” spent the last two weeks in the top spot on both the Billboard and R&R charts. Three of his first six releases have gone to number one including “What Was I Thinkin’?” and “Come A Little Closer,” and all three of those have enjoyed multiple weeks in the number one position. Other radio success includes Top five hits with “Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do” and “How Am I Doin.’” Press Release

This is a great idea. I hope the moderators will leave it over here. I don't go to any other sections either. There is too much "stuff" to wade through to find anything related to country music.

Does anyone know what James Bonamy is doing? Is he still singing? Also, what happened to Eric Heatherly, Kerry Harvick and Shelley Fairchild? Can someone tell us? Thanks!

I feel kind of bad for Trisha sometimes. At Fan Fair, everyone was excited about her performance (myself included) because they thought Garth would show up with her. I live about 50 miles north of Chattanooga, TN and she was at the Riverbend Festival down there Friday night and the rumor around here was that Garth was gonna be a surprise guest with her. They even did stories about it on the news and radio stations. I'm sure she gets this everywhere she goes. I'm sure by now she realizes it comes with the guy, but you know it has to get old and upsetting when all these fans come to see her expecting Garth to be with her.

I hope to go see her in Vienna. Too bad the album didn't go anywhere. I think she should have sped things up (Who Invented The Wheel) instead of slowed things down (Tryin' To Love You) after the success of Georgia Rain. They shouldn't have a problem with it since we're keeping it in a single thread.

Thanks! I've also wondered about Kerry Harvick. I know someone who is close to her but I haven't asked what's going on. If I find anything out I'll let you know. I heard there were some plans that she'd be in some reality show on TV, but that was ages ago and I've heard nothing about that since. Her own website doesn't have much going on, and has an amateurish look to it. Here's her latest message to the fans: hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I have been extremely busy writing and trying to find new songs to go into the studio and cut. I really hope to have something new to radio the first of the year. I appreciate everyone for their support and for hanging in there with me. Hopefully we will have a record in stores soon. Believe me, I want a record out worse than anyone!! I have also been working on a TV show. I am really excited about it and if everything works out I will be able to tour and promote my new show and record. We all know how things go so ANYTHING could happen but I still want to keep you all informed on what is going on. I can't wait to meet each and every one of you. I am in Texas now and will be spending my Christmas holiday here with my family. I will try to post Christmas pics so keep checking the website for some new things.
Check out our new contest. It is for a surprise gift pack! You will not be disappointed. Well, I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Keep in touch!
Until next time,
Kerry She's apparently not part of the Lyric Street stable of artists anymore... At least you don't see her when you visit the Lyric Street website homepage... BUT, google still finds a 'ghost' page for her at hollywoodrecords.go.com/lyricstreet/kerryharvick/bio.html that possibly the webmaster forgot to remove, or else she's in some sort of limbo at the label. You can even play her Cowgirls song and see the video for it at hollywoodrecords.go.com/lyricstreet/kerryharvick/av.html so that just makes me wonder if she's really dropped or not. A second video was shot as a follow-up to her initial "Cowgirls" single but I don't know if it even got released to CMT. I remember seeing it on the web somewhere a couple of years ago. I wonder if an email to the cmw@kerryharvick.com address she has on her website would result in any kind of reply?

^ Update: She has a myspace page at www.myspace.com/kerryharvick that is more active than her website. She updated her blog there on June 16th. Her myspace says she's still with Lyric Street, too.

I loved Swimming In Champaign from Eric Heatherly which failed miserably but haven't heard anything from him lately. Shelly Fairchild has a duet with Chicago on the new Chicago 30 album that was produced by Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts. The song is titled Why Can't We and is excellent. The whole album is excellent and the Rascal Flatts duet Love Will Come Back has just been released to AC.

Just incredible. I was really surprised that it stalled on the charts after the success of Flowers On The Wall.

Found this over at All Access... It's not that recent but it made me chuckle...
American Idol has more than 30 million fans across the country each week -- and TIM MCGRAW is one of them. Asked during a recent interview if he watched the show, Tim said, "I do. The kids love it." Tim and his wife, FAITH HILL, have three daughters. "I would have never gotten past the audition stage," Tim says, referring to the elimination rounds.

Why oh why didn't Martina release this song from Timeless out of the gate? I wonder if it will be released at all.

Steelo... it's hard for me to get over how much you despise Tim. How is it you think he can't sing? I mean, the #1 singles and albums must mean something? Not trying to argue, I'm truly just curious. To each his own, I guess.

Just because someone has #1 albums and singles doesn't mean they can sing...take Britney for example...you can't tell me there's tons of talent there, yet she's had multiple #1 albums and singles.

You don't think Tim has talent? I suggest you go to his concert... the guy sounds even better live, which is a rarity.

Jo Dee Messina's new single, "Too Late To Worry" will go for adds July 10th. Great choice for a single! Apparently it will be a remixed version with a few lyric changes -- I'm interested to hear it!

He and Faith are going to be right here in Des Moines and you won't see me give a dime to either one. I liked Faith up until This Kiss...actually I maybe liked 1 song after that.

Wow, that's a first, isn't it? I've heard of lyrics being changed before a song is recorded but not after the song has been cut on an album and the album released. It will be interesting to see what lyrics have been changed and why they were changed. Jo Dee Messina's new single, "Too Late To Worry" will go for adds July 10th. Great choice for a single! From rascalflatts.com... RASCAL FLATTS CD SALES SOAR PAST THE 11 MILLION MARK In the six short years since the release of the band’s debut album, Rascal Flatts’ cumulative CD sales have soared past the 11 million mark. The band’s latest CD, "Me And My Gang", has been certified double platinum by the RIAA. With over 1.8 million units scanned since its release in April of this year, Rascal Flatts is the biggest selling act of 2006 thus far. Their self-titled debut CD was released in June of 2000 and is certified double platinum. "Melt", which includes the band’s first #1 single, “These Days,” followed in October 2002 and has accumulated more than 2.7 million in sales. "Feels Like Today" has scanned more than 4.2 million units since its release in September 2004, which scored the Grammy winning and 6 week #1 single “Bless The Broken Road.” The news that Rascal Flatts’ cumulative CD sales have surpassed 11 million units scanned comes on the heels of other career milestones, including the band’s fourth consecutive win for ACM Vocal Group of the Year and record-breaking ticket sales for their impressive "Me And My Gang" tour. Woo hoo!!!

I'm surprised the Flatts have only sold 11 million. LeAnn Rimes has sold over 37 million albums in just ten years!

Stacy, i saw Reba her first week at the Hilton. It's a great place to see someone, quite intimate. We had front row so that was very nice. She sounded great and it was just her singing, no dancers nothing else special. Only disappointment for me was she didn't sing Does He love You or the Greatest Man I never Knew. She did sing Moving Oleta, which I'd never heard live. Hope you enjoy the show.

LeAnn also has WW sales to help out, pop albums that have been released in Europe, an 8 million selling debut album being her biggest selling album as far as I know. Rascal Flatts have increased album sales on each album they have released so far.

Hollywood Walk of Fame names 2007 honourees
Sean “Diddy” Combs, rock disc jockey Rodney Bingenheimer and Barbara Walters have something in common: They will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The committee said it had reviewed more than 200 nominations to select next year’s 23 honourees.

Ty Herndon has signed with Titan Pyramid Records, a division of Titan Global Entertainment. His first album for the label, "Right About Now," is due this summer. Herndon produced with Darrell Brown, Dennis Matosky and fiddler Jonathan Yudkin.
Herndon recorded for Epic Records from 1995 until 2002, where he racked up seven top 10 singles including three No. 1 hits. His first two albums, "What Mattered Most" and "Living in a Moment," were certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Two more studio albums and a 2002 greatest hits set followed.
