Following up on something Ryan said last week, Magic! are the first Canadian band (not solo artist or collaborator) to hit #1 this decade. The last one I could think of to top AT40 was Nickelback, with "How You Remind Me", in 2001-02. Any others since?

Is the IHeart station still airing the International version or not? I thought they said that the U.S. version was going to return to the IHeart station.

The new week's show starts at midnight EDT on Thursday night. They run the U.S. version three times. Midnight-4. 4-8. 8-noon. They skip the first three optional extras. Starting at noon EDT Friday, they run the international version. Optional extras are skipped at their regular times but are occasionally inserted as time fillers. The international version runs every 3 hours instead of 4.

I'll also note that Magic is the first Canadian act to top the chart since Carly Rae Jepsen in 2012 with "Call Me Maybe". Bryan Adams, Alannah Myles, Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, and Nelly Furtado are other acts from Canada that topped AT40.

The only other Canadian group (besides Magic!) that I can think of to even chart in the U.S. (much less hit #1) since then is Dragonette, who performed on Martin Solveig's 2011 hit, "Hello" (that peaked in the top 20).

Casey once mentioned that Guy Lumbardo was the first Canadian to ever have a #1 hit in the U.S. sometime in the '40s.

This was one of those rare occurrences when a song that hit #1 on Mediabase didn't hit #1 on this chart. "Far Away" peaked at #2 and was overtaken by JoJo's "Too Little, Too Late" (which only peaked at #2 on Mediabase).

And while we're discussing last week's comment Ryan made about Magic!, here's this week's fun fact. "Rude" is the first reggae song to top the pop chart since 1993. Ryan played a snippet of the last song to claim this honor, UB40's "Can't Help Falling In Love".

And the people who sang Waiting For A Star To Fall. ??? Boy Meets Girl didn't hit #1. Nor are they even Canadian, so I'm not sure what you're trying to refer to here...?

Casey Kasem would have never played "Turn Down For What" nor "Wiggle" on his AT40 show.

Casey Kasem would have never played "Turn Down For What" nor "Wiggle" on his AT40 show. Casey would've played whatever is in the top 40. No song was skipped, even if it had questionable content, e.g. "I Want Your Sex" by Georgie Michael.

I remember Casey or someone doing a story on Canadians who hit #1 on their first single when Nickelback did it (I think) and he listed off like 3 others and one of them was that song...or at least some song from 1989 by a one-hit-wonder Canadian group that I had no idea about. No. It was Jane Child. lol. I just checked. Don't Wanna Fall In Love. Sorry, that's the one I meant. lmao

Casey never refused to play a song, but stations were sometimes given directions on how they could cut a potentially objectionable one. (This might still be done, but it would have to be done differently in this age of the countdowns being distributed as electronic files.)
Regarding " I Want Your Sex", Casey usually refused to say the title. The same was true for Shadoe Stevens when the 2 Live Crew's "Me So Horny" was on AT40. (Casey didn't have to deal with that one, as it didn't chart in Radio & Records which he was using by then.)

there was a version made for radio for George's song. You guys probly don't recall when they changed the lyric to "I Want your Love". that's the one I would listen to on KISS f.m.. When the song went to number #1, that version was thrown out the window .Kasey was also known to shorten down songs he concidered questionable. I would sometimes listen to his show and he would cut certain songs to one verse ,bridge and chorus. I guessing nowadays his show would be really short.

Casey shortened mostly songs that were on the way down the chart or had been on for a really long time.

On AT40 with Shadoe Stevens, which used the Hot 100 at the time, Jane did spend 3 weeks at #2. However on Casey's Top 40, which used the Radio & Records pop chart, she hit the top. Modern AT40 uses Casey's Top 40 history, not AT40 history.
