This will be a smash at alt. write it down. well-predicted! Well, this had already become a hit in Canada first. We're remarkedly good at predicting your hits.

the vocals stylings of this song remind me of when I first heard Katy Perry on Alternative radio and thought "did KROQ go off the air"?

the definition of alt is pretty elastic. It's shifting sand of trends and tastes. 21 Pilots and Walk The Moon sound nothing like Depeche Mode, The Cure or REM - the sounds that defined "alternative" pre grunge. And 7 years ago exactly, post grunge bands like Shinedown and Three Says Grace were dominating the chart - now they can't get arrested. So who can say Elle King isn't perfectly at home here? With the format treading close to James Taylor/lite fm territory with all these singer songwriters lately, no problem with this track.

Easiest thing to do IMO is wait until ratings come out next month - if the Alt format is up, then Renegades and Ex's And Oh's was a good idea, and radio will now call them Alternative - if ratings go down, it was a bad idea, and this stuff will go back to Pop - no one in corporate radio is gonna shoot themselves in the foot, right?

Ex's and Oh's and Renegades aren't the worst songs on the Alt chart.

Ex's and Oh's and Renegades aren't the worst songs on the Alt chart. But they are both payola songs due to their lack of the Pulse rock forum stamp of approval.

Ex's and Oh's and Renegades aren't the worst songs on the Alt chart. I agree that "Renegades" isn't the worst song as well, but this is pushing to be one of the worst.

Neither are, really. Phases and Borns fill that hole.

Nah, this is worse than "Electric Love" IMO.

Tear In My Heart makes me cringe, and so does the singing in Cecelia And The Satellite - everything else on the Alt chart I can at least sit through

I dislike Electric Love, Sedona, Black Mambo, Don't Wanna Fight, Greek Tragedy, and I'm In Love With My Life. Sedona's by far the worst.

That "2 Heads" song I find pretty bad too.

Tbh I have no idea why this of all the songs charting on alternative right now is getting singled out for "inauthentic" alternative-ness or whatnot, I'd even say that this is arguably less poppy than Walk the Moon or Imagine Dragons, who aren't really being questioned on the format at all. It's a nice little blues rock tune and I'm glad it's doing well and giving her some good exposure.
"2 Heads" and (the bridge to) "Tear in My Heart" are pretty easily the two worst things on the format right now for me (everything else is at the very least bearable - The Struts marginally pass by that standard), but then again can we talk about this on the Alternative Games thread instead

I dislike Electric Love, Sedona, Black Mambo, Don't Wanna Fight, Greek Tragedy, and I'm In Love With My Life. Sedona's by far the worst. That was an eye opener. I thought "Sedona" would be one of your perfered songs? Nice to know it isn't. :) There are quite a few songs I concider bad on alt from AltJ, Slightly Stoopid and Glass Animals, but they still fit what I've heard Alt to sound like throughout the years. The ones that push the definition of Alt to a wacked state are. "Renegades", Blame It On Me" ,"2 Heads" and that "Sedona" song that has some wimpy quality I can't stand. "Ex's and Ohs has Alt music but disastrous vocals. "Hold Back The River" sounds questionable on Alt radio, but charismatic. "Believe" isn't abysmal, but was to me 100% AAA hit, not made for alt at all and sounded weird on Alt radio. Weirdly enough 91x went cold turkey on that one and stopped spinning it as soon as they went independent. If I were to use them as an example of what Alt radio is to me; I can safely say , they play the first 3 I mentioned, but havn't given any airtime to any of the other songs I mentioned, before "Believed"

"Black Mambo" is just mind-blowingly bad. I don't know how anything can top that.

I actually don't mind this song or "Black Mambo". The songs that need to go are "Blame It On Me", "2 Heads", "Sedona", "Electric Love", "Hold Back The Payola", and "Renegades", the last just because it's obviously corporate-fed.

I must be the only Glass Animals fan on this board lol I'm with you. I don't get why Glass Animals are so unpopular. Still don't like Ex's and Oh's, but I don't think it's out of place on Alt. It's definitely a rock song, if leaning to the poppier side of vocals. It definitely seems more Alt than Lorde.

I must be the only Glass Animals fan on this board lol I wouldn't say I'm a fan, but I enjoy a handful of their songs. My favorite from them is Pools, but Gooey and Black Mambo are both solid tracks imo. They feel like a lesser alt-J (who I love) to me, and their album was decent but not spectacular.

I'm surprised this is making waves now. I've been listening to this track since Nov/Dec of last year.

I must be the only Glass Animals fan on this board lol nope, you're not the only one - i've charted 4 songs by them so far...in order: Pools, Gooey, Hazey, & now Black Mambo...they all do kinda sound the same, but it makes for an album that's a cohesive listen these guys sound very different than anything else on Alternative radio these days, but that doesn't equate to being "bad"...i could respect an argument that they don't belong on Alt, but i can't respect anyone who says they're crap

I must be the only Glass Animals fan on this board lol I'm with you. I don't get why Glass Animals are so unpopular. I don't either. It's not my cup o' tea, but its very Alt sounding. That is why I leave it alone. It doesn't need corporate pushing to get airtime on Alt radio stations and doesn't sound out of place between RHCPs and Fitz and the Tantrums. I thought we were discussing songs that sound off track on Alt , not songs we don't like?

Lol. Happy to see all the Glass Animals fans coming out of the woodwork, thought I was the only person here who's fine with their whole vibe and likes both of their alt hits.
