At what point are the final weekly numbers tabulated for both charts? I can't remember which is which day nor do I know what time. It's gonna be close.

The Mediabase chart is finalized every Sunday evening around 6 PM (PST), some 4 hours after the 2 PM update in which the recurrents (Keith Urban & Scotty McCreery among songs in the top 30) are removed.
Billboard's chart week ends every Sunday @ midnight (PST).

I'll wait to see if he's removed later tonight but I think he will stay this week.

I'd written him off after he lost 245 spins during the week ending 12-13, but he mysteriously came back to life, but he's still there as you said on the finalized chart which was released @ 6:14 PM.
I have no idea how 'Perfect Storm' will do this week; this is going to be a very interesting week.

So basically, at last count this morning, Perfect Storm was about 100k behind in audience. It has a little over 5 hours from now to make up that difference? Also, it should benefit from an extra spin during Lon Helton's show, should it not? Experts: is this theoretically enough to get it a BB-only #1? I don't think he can hold for another week and if he does I figure it will be equally as tight a race, if that's what you are suggesting Marv. I do think Carrie has enough wiggle room above FGL (I think they will start to slow a bit and Luke will pass them anyway once they hit top 5) that she should be able to hold them off if Sony does miss #1 for Brad this week and they decide to try to push it to next week. I also do not think Kenny or Carrie will have any difficulty getting to #1 with their tunes regardless of when they do it.

I also do not think Kenny or Carrie will have any difficulty getting to #1 with their tunes regardless of when they do it. I'm not sure why you say that Brad is only 100k behind in audience. Last week on Billboard (dated 01/03) Tim led Brad by just about 1 million impressions, much bigger than his lead on MB. We don't have the mid-week BB numbers, of course, but my way of approximating would be to compare Tim's lead over Brad last Sunday (650k) with Tim's lead today (120k). So that Brad gained a little over 500k, plus or minus the translation factor that accounts for the difference between Mediabase and Billboard. Whatever that factor may be, Brad has a few hours to eliminate the remainder of his deficit to Tim, and then some more beyond that, because Brad's farther behind on BB. I would love to see Tim fall short on Billboard, and Brad get that #1 week. But if it's going to happen, it had better happen fast. I believe the BB chart week ends at 1:00am Eastern time, and that's not much extra time.

#1 on Mediabase: 2 1 BRAD PAISLEY Perfect Storm 7648 6335 1313 55.286 What's unfortunately irritating is that it appears to be half a day too late. The good news is: that shows that there was a final push and the audience margin over Shotgun Rider leaves me optimistic that there was a chance he may have been able to pull it off on Billboard. Anybody know yet?

Wow, what a great move this morning. I don't think they would have bothered to push for a good result if they weren't going to be in time to benefit from it, so I think the 800k gain will be good enough. And although 100k wouldn't have been enough, 500 or 600k might very well have been enough, which means that some of the 800k in this morning's update is not needed. In short, after all these frustrating days, when they finally did it, they overdid it, so we can be pretty confident that the BB #1 belongs to Brad.
That's not a scientific analysis, just a practical one. Besides, I'll be really happy for nickv1025 if this result does hold up.

Okay, now I'm confused. All Access has an article up congratulating Arista on getting this weeks #1 MB song for "Perfect Storm". But the final edition last night had Tim's "Shotgun Rider" at #1. Tim was #1 in the afternoon and the final evening updates, so I don't know what happened here. Brad is indeed sitting at #1 today on MB but the finalized chart was determined last night? I need to see that Country Aircheck issue ASAP. All Access

If this story is true, then Lesly Simon, John Sigler, and Andy Elliot of Arista Nashville are getting those sweet treats. They do that "sweet treats" and "bagels" thing every week to the label of the new #1 song or the label who pulled in the most adds that week.

Never doubt us. ;) Edit: They now have an article up with Tim indeed staying at #1 on MB this week.

What gives, AllAccess? I saw where you had Brad Paisley at top this morning, now it's Tim McGraw. Please pick ONE to be #1!

Billboard posts their Chart Highlights at 3:20, and the winner is Brad Paisley. Not only the #1 song, but also the Greatest Gainer -- and even with that, I'm sure this will be very close. One big final surge and Brad collects his 19th BB #1 song.

It's usually sunshine and rainbows in the world of the charts these days. ;)

Congrats Brad!!!
It's rare these days to have a mainstream musician who can so modestly compose, combine, and perform a work that is beautifully crafted musically, melodically, and lyrically.
I'd say it's well-deserved, but I know Zazie would have something to say about that! :)

Just 273k in audience separated Brad from Tim this week on Billboard. Close call indeed.

Anyone else surprised to see "#1 and holding" ads, especially considering Sony has two more songs coming up? I can't really even remember seeing "...and holding" in 2014...and suddenly the last two singles had them; is this a shift away from the revolving door at the top?

That doesn't mean that Arista will retain the #1 position though. I suspect they will try to get the #1 on MB as well and a second on Billboard but I need to see how "Perfect Storm" performs over the next couple days here. They needed a great push today to squeak out the Billboard #1 so lets see "Perfect Storm's" update tomorrow and Wednesday. Sony would have a plan here for how to work this if they indeed decide to get Brad another week on top. Kenny's song could be in trouble if they push Brad since Eric (UMG) is knocking on the door at #4.

Normally I wouldn't say it but...I told you so! I'll admit that it was closer than I thought it would be, mostly because I figured Big Machine would be content with 3 weeks for Tim and wouldn't try to fight for a 4th week, but "Shotgun Rider" held up quite strongly all week, and that made it much tougher for Brad. But I've been saying for a month now that "Perfect Storm" would hit #1 ;) And I never really doubted it either. I'm not sure what was up with the weekend (Friday-Sunday) numbers, though. Obviously Brad's co-hosting duty on Lon Helton's countdown gave PS a bit of a boost...but now my question is, did anybody listen to any of the countdown shows yesterday? Did they play the songs in the order of where they were on Sunday the 28th, or did they go back to the last Sunday before Christmas and play the top 40 songs from that date? Something was obviously funky on Friday that resulted in Brad losing 48 spins and 500k in audience on the Saturday morning MB update, but even then I figured PS would find a way to rally over the weekend.

I believe Kingsley played the songs from the 28th (someone correct me if I'm wrong since I only caught Parmalee being at #6), whereas Kix's show had another year end countdown (yet another reason to despise that countdown).
Didn't listen to Lon's or Crook & Chase.

Brad will probably get a second week at #1 on Billboard and a single week at #1 on Mediabase, so Arista won't quite be able to focus all their energy on pushing "Something in the Water" back ahead of "Talladega" like they would have had Brad not come up short of a Mediabase #1 this week, but since all "Perfect Storm" has to do is hold at #1 for a few more days I don't think this extra week of promotion will be too harmful to Carrie's chart run.

Congratulations to Brad for being #1 again this week for Billboard for a second week and a first week with Mediabase.
