If LAM couldn't go #1 this won't either. It's a good song, but the doo-wop shtick is getting tiring at this point just like Sam's weepy ballads.

Everything about this girl grates on me but this song takes her to a new low. The line where she cruelly barks that "we'll never see your family more than mine" is just awful. Because if you really love someone, you want to dictate to them when they're allowed to see their own family?? It's time for her to go away.

that's like getting mad at the "skinny bitches" line in aatb. it's a fun little jest that she doesn't mean. she also says how she's never wrong in this song. do you think she really believes that? no.

It's a stupid line. The implication is that being an ideal husband means sacrificing one's own family. There's no need to get mad over a "fun little jest" of a lyric, I agree, but it's still a poor sentiment and a dumb line.

"we'll never see your family more than mine" doesn't mean "you'll never see them again MUHUHWAHAHA", just that her family deserves equal attention granted, I'm not inside her head, but I never interpreted that line as her demanding that he "sacrifice" his family. it just makes me think she expects them to split the holidays evenly: "if we spent Thanksgiving with your family, then we're spending Christmas with mine", "I sat through your nephew's Christening last weekend, so this weekend you're coming to my niece's Quinceanera", etc.

I can't wait for the onslaught of people who can't get or appreciate the 50s/60s sitcom parody lyrics. I love this song's lyrics, are people REALLY worrying about a pop song telling young girls to go "buy 'em groceries, buy-buy 'em what you need"? Women of this generation have ACTUAL freaking concerns, it's not the 50s, and we as a culture have moved beyond being concerned about this. Are people incapable of seeing it's in jest?
(Yes, as was the case with AATB.)

If we're talking about lines in this song, "I'll be sleeping on the right side of the bed/open doors for me and you might get some... kisses" is one of my favorite lines in a song ever. Especially when she follows it up with "don't have a dirty mind."

If they had not, and will not, release DFH and Title, it would be the same situation as Katy not releasing Legendary Lovers and Walking on Air. Even if they all share the doo-wop sound, you just can't NOT release them. Too catchy, too unique. Devise a plan for 5th and/or next era to shift gears. But it would be a travesty not releasing DFH and Title.

Well, it won't be the first time it will be an overreaction to ironic lyrics, i remember Where have all the cowboys gone back in the day.
It's curious because people never react to other type of lyrics, Steal my girl has really outdated lyrics, and half mainstream rap songs have offensive lyrics, and i remember a recent Trey Songz single who used a derogatory misoginisty line in the chorus and apart of the usual he is so handsome i never heard any other commentary
Even the skinny b****s lyric is not necessary an insult to all skinny girls (even without the just playing)

She lost a lot of momentum with "Lips are Movin'"....it was definetly the wrong single choice and only became a top ten hit because it sounded very similar to the 1st single. She will quickly become a novelty act if they can't take risks with her.

She will quickly become a novelty act if they can't take risks with her. Do your really think that? We can compare with all new acts that have pop number ones last year, and frankly i think Lips are moving stand its ground with Black Widow and I'm not the only one, as clearly successful second singles after big hits. All about that bass was too big, and i doubt any song released as second single would support the comparision, but Lips are moving really established herself as a suitable hitmaker. Being similar is something people always complain, and if it's not the sound it's the tempo, but we have examples of the opposite. Nick Jonas fans complained about Chains because it was darker, more R&B leaned and too risky (now it seems way less risky). I see more problems with this being the third single, if we continue with the Sam Smith's comparision, Sam's three singles have a similar tempo but a very different sound, and of course he had two previous collaborations with a completely different sound. Meghan doesn't have that advantage, the three singles have a similar tempo and a similar sound. The problem is not exactly the possibility of not being successful as single, the problem is even being successful it doesn't add anything to make Meghan's following era easier. If she doesn't have a hit without this 50's sound she is taking a big risk for her second album, because i doubt she'll use the same sound for that second album, and even using that sound could be risky. Of course in two months this could be an smash and all those speculations would sound ridiculous. It won't be the first time on pulse. Not even with Meghan, we only need to look back at the predictions at the beginning of All about that bass thread to realize how wrong most of us were back then

A momentum killer is a song that completely derails an album's current success, and Lips Are Movin was not that.

It's charted several weeks if anything it's more like dark horse before it became the third single

so i wonder if my theory will be right on what i said in the other Meghan threads . she will have a break from her tour after March 21st through April 9th where she could perform this hopefully being the 3rd single at the iHeart Radio Awards and or Kids Choice Awards where she is nominated. listed to perform at the iHeart Radio Awards on March 29th . hopefully it will be this. www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/139125/jamie-foxx-to-host-iheartradio-music-awards

Finally, the song I actually like by her. Although considering how much AATB and LAM annoyed me and they were big hits, that probably means this won't be.

Yeah, that Tweet from the RIAA was weird -- all those certifications had been established weeks/months ago (and none were in today's monthly RIAA Recap announcement). Still freaking impressive.

The idea that LAM was ONLY a Top 10 hit and killed her momentum is laughable. A song that alleged killed her momentum has carried her to almost 500k copies sold and growing.

I don't follow her enough to be able to understand this conversation a whole lot, but are people really saying "Lips Are Movin'" slowed her down? A) It didn't, at least not on Pop radio, charts, sales, etc. (aka, all of the places that matter), and B) anything she released after "All About That Bass" was going to pale in comparison success-wise. Haven't we all learned that? Follow-up singles to absolutely monstrous hits, most of the time, will never, ever compare. Literally, the only exceptions I can think of right now are Adele with "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You", and Taylor Swift with "Shake it Off" and "Blank Space".
