#4 in UK midweeks and 50-55k with SPS predicted in the US. Definitely a softer opening than I was expecting, especially in the UK, but both of her previous albums had very strong legs so we'll see. I won't be surprised if it re-peaks at some point next year. Not gonna make any serious predictions because if you had told someone in late 2012 that Halcyon would end up keeping Beyonce's album released over a year later off the top in the UK, nobody would have believed.

That's not a great start in either market. OMM hasn't been that successful though, so I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise. As you say though, her previous albums had legs and her sales have never been front-loaded - Halcyon has sold 1m in the UK (significant) and peaked months following its initial charting. Ideal for longevity and her label I'm sure, just doesn't look great up front. t think this is a better album so hopefully we'll see similar.

I've listened to Delirium a couple of times and I can't get enough of it. One of my favourite albums from this year for sure. "Don't Need Nobody", "Keep On Dancin'", "Lost and Found" and "Don't Panic" are easily my favourites from the album, while "We Can't Move to This" is my least one and I guess it's because I don't like the vocal effect in the chorus. Personally, the most unexpected track for me is "Devotion", which I find this as an hybrid of "Inside Out" and "Unusual You". I <3 the dubstep breakdown and it doesn't sound forced on it, which is a plus. Also, "Codes" is so good and it reminds me of "Out of the Woods" and "Heal", which has that Disclosure touch in the production. Oh! And I also like "I Do What I Love". It's so different from her usual stuff, but I'm here for ratchet experimental Ellie. Anyway, aside this article from BBC, is there any confirmation that "Army" is indeed the next single? I mean, I like the song and it has grown on me, but I think there are better choices for the follow-up single in my opinion.

The album would be absolutely perfect if it went like this (based on original chronology)
1. Intro (Delirium) 2. Aftertaste 3. Something in the Way You Move 4. On My Mind 5. Codes 6. Love Me Like You Do 7. Don't Panic 8. Army 9. Lost and Found 10. Scream It Out 11. Paradise *ABSOLUTE FAVE* 12. Winner 13. Let It Die 14. Two Years Ago
I LOVE these 13 songs (not counting the Intro). We Can't Move To This and I Do What I Love are just soo soo different from my actualy music taste, but I don't hate them. Every other song I didn't mention so far is good, but below my perfect tracklist.
I love how it's different from (Bright) Lights and Halcyon (Days) ! I'm sure the album will grow even more on me.. like Bright Lights did! Years later I find myself enjoying EVERY song. I wasn't a big fan at the beginning. However, Halcyon and I INSTANTLY bonded. Not the case here.. but then again, this album has much more songs!

The problem with comparing this opening to that of Halcyon is a handful of hits and a supposed rise in profile since then. Coming off of "Love Me Like You Do" and with a current top 10 pop hit, not to mention a face that's in the media more than it used to be, 50-55k is a poor opening any way you slice it and dice it. Sure, the album may have legs. But she'll have to continue to fight for it when she's at the point where it should be easy by now.

I expected Delirium to move 50k physical, so my guess wasn't too far off. Radio likes her a lot but her actual star profile is still on the low side IMO; she is not close to being a household name yet. (I feel like The Weeknd is the one who got more leverage out of the 50SoG soundtrack success, mediawise.) I'm more surprised about the low UK sales because I thought she had bumped herself up a few levels there, but I guess not. At any rate there is no shame in having a low opening and then being a steady seller, so I'm just happy she put a fantastic album that can justify that argument.

This album is so good. It grows on me more and more with every listen. From a critical standpoint, I think she could have done herself some favors by trimming it down just a little, but overall it's superb. I have many favorites so far, but "Devotion" is quite the standout.

I was wondering what this "Devotion" track is that you're all on about because I didn't recall such a one. Ahhh! You mean "this is the potion, the potion, the potion." YES! Standout for sure.

She has created earworm after earworm. Devotion is really cool, with the glitchy production. It kinda reminded me of something Britney would do, at her best. Around U is my new favorite of the day.

I think the biggest issue was the lead single choice. On My Mind in my opinion is the worst song on the standard album. She should've released a different single when Love Me Like You Do peaked and then release the album 3 months later.

She should've released a different single when Love Me Like You Do peaked and then release the album 3 months later. There's lots of strong tracks on the album but "On My Mind" is the only one that sounds like a guaranteed hit to me. It's not a flop by any means so I don't think it's the problem. The problem is there's still a disconnect between her songs and the face behind them. They just need to work on her brand and get her profile as high as it should be for someone who's had six top 10 pop hits.

LMLYD got 0 live promotional performances; its biggest impact for her was moving her up in radio and booking preferences. And they have booked that arena tour they've wanted for so long, so from here on out it's really pushing her face out there too since they're trying to sell tickets. They should try to get her into skits on Ellen or Fallon. It may not do much if she just sits there with bitchface, but...well they should just make sure that's not what happens.
I don't think OMM was the wrong single and it's doing fine, but it may have been a better move to release it in summer right after LMLYD fell off the charts, and then release the next single before the album so there was a better bridge.

I wish I had more time to give a well-spoken review of this, but since I don't can we just talk about this so random it works 112 sample on We Can't Move To This? What kind of oddly brilliant.
I agree with the above that OMM is doing well enough to say it wasn't a bad choice as lead, but she should have come on the heels of LMLYD instead of letting it have time to cool down. It's now time to get really aggressive with the promo to move her from voice all over your radio to face all over your tv.

So even though I said I was indifferent to it, I have been listening to Devotion quite a lot... I lie. Lol I'm so full of shit, it's my most played track so far.

I'm flip flopping all over the place on this album. This has some brutally catchy hooks on it, but it just falls flat to me on delivering the things that I preferred about Ellie's music. I still bop to some of the tracks, and can appreciate it for being a solid pop album. The places it missteps are just the places I put a lot of stock into. I miss the sultry Ellie on something like Tessellate, and how a song would go from her wispy voice to a full-bodied chorus, and of course I miss the sappy melodramatic ballad (though Scream It Out comes close).
I can't help but compare it to Emotion, and for one main reason. The songs I live for on Delirium are the ones with a standout element: The chorus in Codes, the choir in Holding on for Life, the background vocal hook on Don't Need Nobody, the whistle on Keep on Dancin, all of I Do What I Want. But a more than a few of the songs lack that sonic hook. After the second playthrough of Emotion, I could identify each song with at least one unique element: The sax in Run Away with Me, the synths of Warm Blood, the phone call in Boy Problems, etc.
I guess I'm being overly critical because I stan Ellie and probably set my expectations too high. I don't hate Delirium, just think it didn't quite come together fully. Wouldn't be surprised if I came around on it a little more over the next month, but probably won't ever call it my fav of hers.
So, I get why people love it, but it just hasn't/doesn't click with me. Also on Saturday night, I walked by a car blasting I Do What I Want and I LIVED.

On My Mind isn't a smash. It's a "hit", butt not a smash. Her promo has also been close to nonexistent so not sure how her people could have expected higher debut sales than that.
She does have tracks for legs though; and for some reason her single release budget is always huge, so I dont doubt this album hasnt peaked yet. They're sitting on Don't Need Nobody, Keep On Dancing, and The Greatest. Those are all huge songs.
First listen single choices:
1. On My Mind 2. The Greatest 3. Don't Need Nobody 4. Keep On Dancing 5. Army

Does anyone remember that singer Lene Marlin who was big in Europe about 10-15 years ago? I've been straining my brain trying to figure who many of these songs remind me of (especially "Lost & Found") and I've just realized it's her! Who else? Possibly 0304 era Jewel on some of the sappier songs.

It has risen quite a bit on Metacritic in the past few days from a 61 to a 68. Usually albums tend to decrease in positive reviews overtime so it's interesting to see Ellie do the opposite. For comparison, Halcyon received a 69 and Light a 65, so she's in line with her previous work.

I keep thinking it's something out of Europe that wasn't big in North America. Maybe it's not that the melody reminds me of something but the production and glamour of it? Sittin' Down Here is a jam, btw.

I can hear all 3 rocking the hell out of acoustic sets that are heavily guitar based.

In a year where so many established acts released mediocre albums below their standards, Ellie raised the game. Glad there are still artists who care about quality and progression. And finally, an album that is strong all the way through instead of just frontloaded through the first six tracks. So refreshing.

From BuzzJack Music Forum: 1 Elvis Presley - If I Can Dream (60.3k) 2 Little Mix - Get Weird (45.1k) * 3 Ellie Goulding - Delirium (32.2k) * 4 Rod Stewart - Another Country (20.8k) 5 The Beatles - #1s (19.9k) This is the Wednesday update in the UK and Delirium is still at #3 there. That said, there's missing data from Spotify for Monday and Tuesday and Apple stream for Tuesday, so looks like it could beat her previous first-week sales as well.
