I had a feeling this song would flop.

Love STF but I just don't see it blazing up the Top 40 charts....I just feel like with being in with Benny Blanco and having Charlie in on the writing that there's gotta be a bigger record than both BDL and STF

I am assuming this means they are pulling the plug on BDL and moving forward with a new single. It sucks though-this lingered in the top 10 on Itunes for a bit, was getting great airplay and seemed to have some hype, then the video came along and seemed to kill it. I mean, rationally I understand that it wasn't the video, but I do wonder what a A+ video and a few major performances would have done. Like, would that have been enough to get it at least top 15 on pop or was it doomed to peak here no matter what? Oh well. Hopefully STF does better though the clip did not sound entirely promising to me.

Oh gee! This is unfortunate The video was so shitty (sorry!) and I think was released too early that it's natural to see this losing momentum on iTunes. I think a good live performance would've been good for the song-maybe what it needed at this moment. I still think this is hot :) and actually watching the video on vh1 I realized the video mix was also cool (mostly louder background vocals). What I heard of STF does not appeal to me. I think the label should keep supporting BDL. It kept good momentum... Just needed more support I think.

I think she picked the wrong time to stage a comeback. I mean, in theory it would work with The Voice tie-in but this quarter feels really crammed with new releases from both established acts and up-and-comers. The song was good but when you have almost every major pop player releasing something around the same time, it was never going to stand out enough.

Who is the last 40+ diva to get into the Top 10 on a solo single? Jlo?

I mean, literally the only major act to release an album this Q4 is Taylor Swift. If anything, this was the perfect time to come back. There's essentially no competition that's going directly against her.

If they're going to drop this and roll out Spark The Fire, they should do it now. Because if SPF doesn't rise up quickly it'll likely get killed by the freeze and they'll be left thinking they should've supported Baby Don't Lie for a while longer.

I mean, literally the only major act to release an album this Q4 is Taylor Swift. If anything, this was the perfect time to come back. There's essentially no competition that's going directly against her. I disagree. While Taylor may have been the only A list act to release new material in Q4 (so far at least) she is huge enough to shake up the iTunes chart for weeks. "BDL" was still top 20 in it's second week out when all of Taylor's album tracks pushed it down to the 30s which killed some of it's initial hype. Some of her album tracks are still lingering in the top 50 of iTunes. The weeks that followed brought new releases from The Foo Fighters and One Direction that shot to the top, then there were the Halloween songs, the CMT awards that drove numerous country tracks up the charts, and soon there will be Christmas music to compete with (and potentially Beyonce). Q4 is always a cluttered time of year whether there are multiple A listers releasing new material or not. This is also evident in other singles - a song like "Jealous" by Nick Jonas which is on the rise and by a young accessible act has had a hard time reaching the top 10 and has been pushed outside of the top 20 a few times by all the new releases. If this was a less crowded quarter he would likely have been a mainstay in the top 10 for weeks. Of course, "BDL" should have been selling better regardless but I can't help but think the song would have had a better chance if it was released late Summer before the onslaught of Q4.

I think se could have waited until January. Then no one would be releasing much, and she would have had a better chance of longevity.

They really dropped the ball. This song had great potential. Awful video and 0 performances... like what is even the point of being on the Voice then.

I think Baby Don't Lie is a good comeback single. I wish they'd give it a full 1st single type of promotion because acts like Gwen can't count on a 2nd single. It does sound like a fall/winter hit, maybe not #1 hit but Top 10, which I think is good enough for her. Hopefully they don't give up on it so soon. Oh yeah, and that video is disgusting. Now THAT should be scrapped.

The horrible video really killed this, Gwen is still capable of pulling off a monster second single. Spark The Fire might not be it though.

For some unknown reason, Gwen's performance of "Baby Don't Lie" on The Voice tonight was scrapped. Pharrell performed (wearing a No Doubt shirt) instead. NBC issued a press release confirming Gwen was scheduled to perform Tuesday night so it seems like it was her team's decision to delay the performance. My guess is they are waiting to perform "Spark the Fire" and release it to iTunes immediately afterwards but it's hard to tell what Interscope's plan is with her music these days. "Baby Don't Lie" needs the help now so if she was going to perform it live now was the time to do so. Ugh. I guess they want her first performance of new material to be really hyped up and not a song that doesn't seem to be that well received. I think it seems like a mistake for her not to perform this. Can't she get more than one performing slot? When XTina's last cd came out she got 3 spots. Yes 2 of them were with judges and 1 was with her team but still.....

I was thinking the same. She could perform BDL now (I'm confident it'll get a good push in iTunes) and then new stuff in the finale... Even if she invites one of her team members to duet with her. This showed lots of support at the beginning. Label shouldn't give up on it

i think it meaningless now to perform BDL on The Voice she needs to perform the 2nd single and give it a proper promotional campaign that MAYBE can help to make it a hit for her (although i highly doubt it at this point)

LOL at all the negativity in this thread. I agree it's frustrating she has yet to perform live and that it's unclear if "Baby Don't Lie" is a buzz single or the proper lead single from her album. However, the song has not completely flat lined at Radio yet...in fact it's still increasing and about to crack the top 20 at Pop! Not horrible for a 45 year old female who hasn't charted solo since 2007! :)
Yes, iTunes is disappointing but I do believe promo would go along way with this song.

it is weird that she didn't perform, she can perform as much as she can, at long as she is a judge

I agree - video isn't the best and was released to early in my opinion.
I maybe mistaken - but why this wasn't released worldwide at the same time also annoys me - I feel like this would have created more buzz.

Per Play IGA, "Baby Don't Lie" will be featured in a massive FIAT ad campaign. Could be good exposure...has anyone seen the commercial yet? Also, this is apparently doing well in call outs - ranking #5 against P25-34. playiga.com/track/gwen-stefani-baby-dont-lie-2/

Pharrell said in some clip I watched that Gwen's album was played for industry ad people and that he expects a lot of placement for the songs on the album. Pharrell has industry clot right now so this doesn't surprise me. It still may not be enough to make people love the song but any exposure will help ANY song to a degree.

Wow, this is totally done now. I remember some of you gushing over the big updates, and a few were skeptical. And bam, brick wall. It's really a shame. Great song.
