The problem with this kind of artist is the exact opposite to talent show singers. Generally a talent show contestant (no matter how popular he or she is) find reluctance on radio to play his/her song, with big stars of a certain age it happens exactly the opposite the radio jumps in the bandwagon like there's no tomorrow, but in the end sales are the key. If a talent show contestant end being successful on sales radio starts to play his/her song (the problem usually is that they need to do promo to get there, and labels generally want benefits without effort with that kind of singers, that's the reason most second albums flop) and for a star like Gwen, Fergie or Madonna sales are the key too, they usually sell well on first week, but it's the sales after a couple of weeks what made radio continue betting on the song or pull the plug. I don't know if Gwen did her work with the promo, but the sales are really bad for a song near top 20. If she didn't do promo better start now, the song is not dead yet, but if she waits too much no matter how sales will react to the promo the song will be dead on radio. Callout scores could be a key too, that's the reason why Fergie's song is in danger too, the sales are not that bad, but the callout scores are, so the song will need way better sales (a la Wiggle) to overcome that

Officially makes the top 20 tonight as it moves up one spot to #20. I'm guessing this will be it's peak at Pop as all signs are pointing to "Spark the Fire" being released this week.
Based on the minimal effort that was put into its music video, lack of a live performance, and virtually zero promo support, I think it's safe to call "Baby Don't Lie" a buzz single just to get something out there to coordinate with The Voice and let people know Gwen is putting new music out soon.

Hope it also makes the top 20 in the billboard pop chart. Unfortunate :( This is a good song but needed more help Another example for Pulsers who were screaming so loud about how successful this was going to be, bigger hit than Fergie's, etc. First week performance is always deceiving!

Well we were expecting Gwen's team to get their shit together and actually promote this song, the interest was there, but they fucked up, and now we're stuck with the abysmal "Spark the Fire" to follow up...

Yeah- Gwen's team just kind of threw this out there and hoped it would stick. While it's true that initial reaction is a key indicator of potential, some support is necessary to give it a true shot (especially after an eight year absence). Why should radio rally behind this when it's super obvious that not even Gwen is?

Even in all her interviews, she makes it clear this just kinda happened, she just gave birth I mean how long ago?

This had a radio deal, video and some Voice promo.??? I really wouldn't call it a "Buzz" single. She's going to be on "Ellen" today. Let's see what she promotes besides for The Voice.

So if it did better it wouldn't be a buzz single? This is giving me Mariah teas.

The Radio deal didn't benefit the song beyond the first 24 hours, the music video is literally just her walking in front of a green screen, and beyond The Voice showing 5 seconds of the video during a commercial break once, Gwen never even mentioned "Baby Don't Lie" on the show let alone perform it live. Also, any interviews Gwen did do she spent more time discussing "Spark the Fire".

Spark The Fire isn't nearly as bad as this forum makes it out to be.

The words buzz single are only pulled out when a single flops or under-performs. This was a single, it did ok, could have been better, could have been worse.
