On country radio, yes. They only sent Mine, Back to December, and The Story of Us to pop radio that era (all without pop remixes), I believe.

It seems to me that the 'fan favorite' singles every era tend to underperform as compared to other singles from the same album. Sparks Fly, 22/Red, Style all come to mind. And now OOTW seem to be the same way too. Well, when you're talking about launching a "fan favorite" album track as a single, that's often going to be the case. Hardcore fans aren't the target audience for a radio single; it's casual fans, light fans, and non-fans that you're trying to appease, as they're the ones who aren't burned on the song and/or potentially going to buy it. Plus, true fans are invested in the artist -- and thus can look deeper than a song's hook and radio-readiness when evaluating. But I do question whether Out Of The Wood is truly a 'fan favorite' as much as it is a critical favorite (a group just as irrelevant when it comes to clicking with the masses). It's certainly not a "fan favorite" in the way that All Too Well and Enchanted were, and if we're talking about practical single choices, I get the impression plenty of "fans" were pulling for New Romantics. And I think Wildest Dreams launched with plenty of fan support; it's really only Bad Blood that was low on the Swiftie totem pole. I'd even say you can almost make the case that Blank Space counts as fan favorite single -- as that started taking off because it received the warmest initial reaction from "1989" buyers. I don't believe it had been "sent" to radio until the immediate wave of feedback came in from the leak + actual album. Plus, Style didn't at all underperform at radio. It underperformed on the Hot 100 because of the atrocious video. You put out a sexy, well-lit video of Taylor and a good-looking guy driving up the coast and then going to a party, you have a Top 3 hit.

Wow. Out of the Woods sold only 16,000 copies this week. And yet it went up to #44 on the Hot 100 this week. The most recent Hot-100 recalibration lowered the weight of streaming points and increased that of sales points. It's only logical that this would benefit placement wise as a result.

Out of the Woods was the fan favorite from 1989. ETA: You can look to the 4th, 5th, and 6th single polls in the Polling Booth forum for proof of that.

Mine has a pop radio edit and a rhytmic tempo mix that were both played on US radio. Back to december and the story of us both have international mixes. I felt like Sparks Fly couldve made a great pop single for taylor back then. Its very catchy and melodic.

I believe that was the point.

Sparks Fly was such a missed opportunity... It probably would've gone top 10 on pop/HAC/AC radio if it had been released as a single in those formats.
I think OOTW was one of the fan favorites, but I got the impression that the fan favorite was "Wildest Dreams" for some reason...

"Wildest Dreams" was the fan favorite. Pretty sure it was selling better than this and every other album track before it was released which basically confirms that.
"Out Of The Woods" is the Pulse favorite.

Well, regardless of its ultimate chart performance, I'm just glad it was released as a single. Still love it.

Out of the Woods definitely had a sizable, small but vocal fanbase that seems consistent across the TS fanbase (not that I'm an expert on that).
kanimal is one of my favorite posters on this board and I agree with him on almost everything he points out, but I will disagree with him when he said that New Romantics seems to be where Taylor Swift is "at" lyrically. No. Taylor Swift is never "over it". That's her whole brand. "We're all bored" is not how we know Taylor Swift. That's Lorde. That's Lana. New Romantics is definitely a fun exercise for Taylor, but I in no way see New Romantics as representative of where Taylor is.

"Out Of The Woods" is the Pulse favorite. The idea that this was a fan favorite is based exclusively on its preorder instant grat sales tbh

Wow, I figured of all things it at least do great in airplay, but it seems to be hitting a brick wall. This and When We Were Young are both having really surprising slowdowns IMO. Hopefully it's just the pre-top ten slowdown that most songs experience for both of them, but if not at least for this one it can be explained away as a sixth single performance. I do think they lost a lot of momentum with the gap between Wildest Dreams and this, but really what were they to do with Hello sucking up all the oxygen in the room.

In this case the slow down is not surprising at all. Generally you need to sell a lot more to get into the top 10. Of course if you come from at least a couple of very big hits there's exceptions, that's the reason In the night peaked so high, but unless it gets way higher on itunes the changes of getting near number one will be very little

With how she performed "Out Of The Woods" on her tour, that would SLAY at the Grammys.

If you're only nominated for album you can perform ANY song but if you're nominated for song AND album, you have to do the song you're nominated for? I say there is 0 chance she performs Bad Blood.

I totally forget the remix had Kendrick. It would make a lot more sense if he performed with her. :)
