Yeah, unfortunately the video did absolutely nothing for the song digitally....which is odd. I would've expected at least a few positions jumped by now. Oh well. lol Did you? With this video? lol It actually dropped 2 spots yesterday and got a red update. I doubt she's even performing it on SNL. That said, the video's gotten 6 million views on YouTube tonight. Honestly yes, just based on her name and the buzz alone. lol I mean I never expected it to shoot to #1, but I definitely was expecting top five.

The video is nice and Taylor looks really pretty in it. Nothing spectacular or anything to talk about though, unlike her previous videos. The song for me has a great production but after repeated listens, I feel that Taylor's vocals just fall flat. There's no real punch to them that I think is needed except when the bridge/Take Me Home bit comes in near the end.

Regardless of the video, this remains my favorite Swift single in over 4 years.

"Style" is actually my 11th most played 1989 track. Haha I guess I never loved it, but I see why it was released for sure. A third consecutive Chr/Pop #1 looks promising, at the very least.

I like this song, but I still think it's too samey to Blank Space. If OOTW is next, I wonder what would've happened had they sandwiched that single in between Blank Space and this.

Really shocked this didn't move up in sales after the video. Maybe it's just too hard to tell at the moment since there's a post Grammy/50 shades take over on Itunes right now.

Wow Taylor blocked herself from the Pop top 5 today! Very cool she is #5 and #6 though!

A lot of her songs fall flat on the vocals because she isn't a "singer". She is a phenomenal songwriter, very smart brand and most of her songs wouldn't be hits if they were sung by others, even if they might technically sound better. I don't agree this song falls flat on vocals though. Her switch to pop really hides her lack of vocal range because the genre is more focused on lyrics and production, which is nailed on every song on 1989. The bridge gives this song more than enough. I desired a lot more vocal "punch" when she was still doing country stuff.

I love the song...it was my instant favourite along with Blank Space, that being said, Ive grown out of it...and the video did nothing to bring that feeling back to life. I could see that video for something like "Wildest Dreams."

I desired a lot more vocal "punch" when she was still doing country stuff. I wasn't refering to belting/range etc, I was refering to the power and emotional input from her voice and for me it falls flat, except the bridge/ending of the song somewhat. It sounds almost lazy to me. I love "Shake It Off" & "Blank Space" though and a lot of her previous material - so it's not because she isn't a technically and range gifted singer. I wasn't trying to throw that spin on it at all if that's what you're getting at.

It was still the third single. This is a CHR/Pop forum. There was no "White Horse" Pop radio remix so "You Belong With Me" was the 2nd pop single. There is no debating on this at all.If this was the country forum where "White Horse" got airplay where it was the 2nd single in that format. We are talking CHR/Pop radio airplay in this forum. CHR/Pop Goes like this- Love Story You Belong With Me Country Format goes like this- Love Story White Horse You Belong With Me You can't count a song that didn't play in the CHR/Pop format.Remember this is a CHR/Pop forum.

I could see that video for something like "Wildest Dreams." Absolutely on that last bit. I was thinking to myself are they sure they didn't accidentally release the Wildest Dreams vid with the Style audio? At any rate I'm actually way more into this now than most songs on the album. It's this and Wildest Dreams I keep coming back to.

No matter what happens this is going to be Taylor's most successful 3rd single ever. :) This will always be a stilted comparison, thanks to the Pop/Country splits with so many of her singles not going to Pop. It just doesn't work with looking at Taylor's single history the way it does for a Rihanna, Katy, etc. You can say something to the effect of this is defying her usual expectation of any Pop single beyond the third in an era struggling (which is, obviously, true). You just can't frame it in "overall" terms regardless of which forum you're making the claim in - that doesn't work.

Taylor didn't perform at all at the SNL Special. It looking like she will perform "Blank Space" at the Brit Awards next week.

Kinda strange that this was surging for weeks with green updates and now that the video is out, it's gotten all red updates. It's probably the album effect, which I knew would happen. A massively selling album can't have massively selling singles for an extended period of time. This is why Rumor Has It underperformed.

A massively selling album can't have massively selling singles for an extended period of time. This is why Rumor Has It underperformed. While I agree this is a factor, it's not the only one, and I don't even think it's the main one. "Set Fire to the Rain" sold extremely well despite 21 having sold a ton already (and way more than 1989 currently has). There's also another difference to consider here. "Rumour Has It" peaked here in pop airplay. "Style" is surging again on pop right now. I think what's hurting "Style" more than anything is the fact that it sold so well prior to being a single as well as being promoted so well prior to being a single. The video really should have came out about about three weeks ago to maximize its effect. "Style" is going to end up high in airplay, but its more of a case of airplay taking long to react to great sales, which is ironic considering its push to radio was literally last week and it was top ten before then, but "Style" has been selling well and has been promoted since October. This could also potentially hurt "Bad Blood" as a future single as well since its the highest seller outside of the singles. Unfortunately, this is a problem that couldn't really be avoided, and in the long run it's really not too big of a problem since "Style" is still going to end up being perceived as a massive hit, just a massive hit without a massive peak due to how charts work versus how music is consumed.

I think they held off cuz there was nothing (and still nothing) dethroning Uptown Funk unless it was a Wrecking Ball type video. Plus then Rihanna surprised released and I'm sure that had an effect on the timing of the video.
But I agree with the pre-selling before the release notion. Adele wasn't a prominent figure yet, so her album tracks I don't believe were selling anything close to what Taylor, as a prominent figure, would have before the single was officially released.

^ This is not true. I recall that "Set Fire to the Rain" and "Rumour Has It" both sold about 1 million copies before officially being released as singles. "Turning Tables" has also sold nearly a million without ever being released as a single.
It seems that Taylor might have a Maroon 5 single situation on her hands. Many of their singles dominate at radio and help keep the album going despite not selling like a huge radio smash. Style could be in the same boat. It should sell at least 2 million and keep the album going for a while, but maybe it won't be the huge digital smash many of us thought it would be.
