Somehow, this manages to be even more boring than Riptide was.

I like it as much as I liked "Riptide" upon first listen and I like how it picks up after the chorus and you get that percussion sequence. I'm not sure it'll do as well, but I think it'll be better received by posters in this forum than "Riptide" was.

This is too Mumford-y for me. Riptide was way better.

Was this in a movie trailer recently? If not, it sounds a lot like something that was.

Good choice. I see this guy (along with Milkey Chance) as a one hit wonder though. Vance has more of a chance to break that than Milky Chance does.

Not bad, but not really memorable. Riptide had a big chorus that made it seem more epic, where this almost sounds like background music. I'd give it a 5.5/10 for right now, but it could grow on me.

I never really liked "Riptide" nor gave it much of a chance, but I did find this to be decent. Not the most memorable, but reminds me of a mix of Phillip Phillips and Mumford & Sons. I'm going to give "Riptide" another chance.

I guess this was expected, since it received a couple of adds some weeks ago and Vance Joy performed it too, as far as I remember. Anyway, I hope "First Time" could be released as well, but I think it will depend if this does well. Obviously, I'm not expecting it to be as successful as "Riptide", but anything could happen.

I could see it helping out the song.

I think the verses in this song are far superior to the verses in "Riptide", but the chorus is pretty average. The instrumental after the chorus though, damn that sounds good.

I'm not really a fan of these musical simple sounding songs. Alternative radio seems to embrace these songs and I don't know why? This has more of a Philip Philip's vibe to it. Should be on Hot AC or Triple A. I hope not on Alternativce radio.

This doesn't make me want to punch a baby in the face like "Riptide" does, so it's got that going for it, which is nice.

This is already top 15 in Canada. I'd imagine it'll fly up US alternative too, so I think it's safe to say he'll be avoiding the one-hit wonder tag.

This guy looks pretty cool, but it'd be nice if his music reflected that. This isn't as bad as "Riptide", but it's not something I want to see flying into the Top 10. I wish most indie-folk/pop would just die off already. Some of the most boring music I've heard in a long time.

I agree with shadowcorp about the indie folk. I'm over it, but Indie Synth Pop is anything but boring. If anything it's the closest to an 80s New Wave revival ,I've heard in a long time. A much needed 80s New wave revival.

Also, I agree with Mumford and Sons, but "Little Talks" and "Mountain Sound" got absolutely irksome once they started getting overplayed. Their latter two singles were half decent at best.

I don't mind certain indie-related artists sticking around long-term if they bring energy like Two Door Cinema Club's type of sound just off the top of my head. It's bands like Hoizer, Vance Joy, etc that bore me to death.

Its not just indie folk bands that get tiring like that though lol. You find Little Talks and Mountain sound to have gotten very overplayed and tiring, probably due to the fact that they both spent an eternity on the chart. But really the same could be said about like The Kill and From Yesterday from 30STM in 06/07...that was the most I've ever been personally burned out on an alternative band anyway. Difference of opinion really.

I'm not a fan of the singing (especially the girl's voice) and I think their instrumentation is quite frankly boring. The overplay just made it worse.

I've heard and understood that argument for Mountain Sound, but Little Talks... :( I find everything about it to be amazing, I think its my #2 or 3 song of 2012 lol.

Of Monsters & Men are great, they're definitely one of the best indie folk bands to come around.
