The residency starting one year from now and in my books it should be preceded by a new album, all Gaga or joint with Tony Bennett
Her health problems might play a factor: she loves to perform and the easiest way to do it is to have a residency tbh

Yeah, I"m not really feeling this residency either, it does seem to soon and oddly timed. She has so much else going on, from A Star is Born (is this pushed back so it wont coincide with the start of the residency?) to AHS, to demand for a new album. And I don't exactly see how her health could have played a factor in this decision, because though there isn't the travel stress, wouldn't performing several times a week every week for 2 years be more grueling than touring, and even more so if she is to do the touring and all the other stuff in addition?

(is this pushed back so it wont coincide with the start of the residency?) I am not sure...I would think not. The original release for the film was in May, which would be after the Joanne Tour was done and ~6 months before the start of the Vegas residency. That would give her the perfect opportunity to do press and promote the film while she was not busy touring. The only glimmer could be that she would time the release of the soundtrack to coincide with the residency, so she could perform it and promote it. Though, a residency is not always the best opportunity to promote new work, because you are relying on folks to travel to a specific destination to hear the music vs. a tour where she brings the music all over the country / world. I think the movie is probably delayed for a few reasons: 1)It is not really a big summer type of blockbuster movie and they want to get it out of the way of big summer films 2)they need time for more post-production and / or 3) they think it is so well done that they want it closer to the awards season. I am thinking it is a combination of 1 and 2.

Some movies are pushed back because the studio ( Warner Brothers) want it to be fresh in the minds of critics and pundits for awards season.

The article does explicitly state this moves the movie into awards season consideration - not sure that is a direct quote from Warner Bros but it was mentioned.

Apparently they have been testing the shit out of it and it has been testing positively. Which is bizarre to me because it sounds terrible. Lol I just have very little interest in Star is Born. I may spend my savings to go see her in Vegas though. Like, damn that is going to be a great show.

Tickets are going to be expensive af. At least $350. Depending on the frequency. If she's doing it similar to Bruno in that she does a string of 4-6 shows all at once, and then doesn't do any more for another few months, then yeah, you're probably right. If she's going the Britney/Celine route and does an extended residency, then they'll be a little less absurd. Has she announced the residency's frequency yet? Or nah? (Haven't been keeping up after the initial announce.)

I have seen varying numbers of dates and paychecks so I am not sure if the official numbers have been announced yet.
But I would probably pay the 350 lol. I have family in Vegas so I could just stay with them and get out of paying for a hotel. The only sucky thing is that I doubt any of my friends would want to go with me and pay the 350...

My prediction is that it will not be a big awards contender. Maybe Golden Globes because they have given her love before, but not Academy Awards. Unless they have a killer original song that can be nominated. This is the fourth remake of this movie, so I am feeling like it is already too familiar and cliched.

Bradley Cooper has gotten a lot of love from the Academy recently and she got great reviews when she did Sound of Music tribute. It ultimately will come down to the quality of the film but the push back is a good sign.
I do agree it's the type of film the Golden Globes love.

I believe 74 dates are confirmed and so is two years so making calculations it's on average 0,7 shows per week. I guess there will be busier seasons and some breaks

I think a pushback is only a bad sign if they say it’s to do reshoots. Simply changing the release date doesn’t have any reflection on the movie’s quality IMO.
Ugh, I’d LOVE to see Gaga doing her hits in Vegas!

Good god, Panty Party is awful. "New York" isn't bad and would fit right at home on "The Fame"

I may spend my savings to go see her in Vegas though. Like, damn that is going to be a great show. If she really filmed all of the performances live, I could see reshoots being needed. It's tricky to film a concert live, let alone for a movie, which is a completely different style of filming. Plus, getting the sound recorded live in a high enough quality can be tricky. (At my friend's test screening, they noted the sound was still rough in parts). I'm not super worried, and they have tested this so much, they probably have a good idea as to what needs tweaked.

Golden globes love musicals and its star. Next year I look for it to be nominated for musical best picture and Gaga best musical actress. The movie will give us a top selling soundtrack and song just like Barbra Streisand did with her 3rd remake of the film.

That Variety article presents a curious rationale given that October 5th is hardly prime release season for awards contenders - that is definitively December. May is, however, a much more competitive month, box office-wise, and May 2018 is already busy. My suspicion is a) they didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle and b) it's probably timed in some way with her residency.

I may spend my savings to go see her in Vegas though. Like, damn that is going to be a great show. I think they're probably unsure of how it will perform, hence the shuffling around. This is now the FOURTH release date for the film - September, November, May, and now October. This tells me that at one point not that long ago, the studio thought the film was going to do well enough to compete with the summer blockbusters and moved it to May. Now they're implying that maybe that was a bad move. I get their angle by moving it to October, but October isn't exactly prime awards season - if they thought it was REALLY good, they would give it a Nov/Dec release to boost its box office and award prospects. I personally think October a wise move because it will thrive best when not drowned out by the big blockbusters (summer or holiday dates) or the heavy-hitter Oscar bait movies, but still close enough to awards season for the Globes to not look super suspect when they once again nominate a big name pop star in a musical.

European leg starts soon. I'm going to the first date in Barcelona. Do we think there will be any changes to the show? Probably not but I was hoping she'd play a new song or something

To this day my favorite thing from Gaga, is that final minute of Marry The Night, you can see what part I'm talking about via the video link I just love the fierceness of her voice as she repeatedly sings the night amongst the change that occurs in the production at the end. MTN isn't even my favorite song from Gaga though, but the final minute of it is just stellar imo.

Marry The Night has gotten better with time. Sometimes I wonder if it's just because it has settled in well or if it's because everything that came after didn't have the intensity or energy that MTN (and others from that album) have, thus making it feel even better.

I'm not the biggest Gaga fan, but MTN does rank among the best of her songs in my opinion. My top three are: -Dance in the Dark -Judas -Marry the Night

Last year I ranked MTN as her best but the Joanne era has altered my rankings a bit, might need to do a new list
