Halifax radio station Live 105 just announced this as the band's "new one," so I can only assume it's being promoted as the third single from Turn Blue.

How to describe this song, hmm...
Well overall it's decent, but it isn't good enough for the full 6:50 version to go to radio. However, at the same time I think the intro and instrumentals are the best parts, so any radio edit would obviously cut those parts out and therefore wouldn't be that good.
So yeah, I can't see this doing all that well. Maybe a run similar to Muse's "Follow Me". I personally find this to be their second weakest single since they went mainstream in the "Brothers" era, with only "Tighten Up" being worse IMO.

GREAT song, but not especially radio-friendly. Their name will take it Top 20, but that's about it.

This song is enjoyable, but as others have said I can't see it translating easy to radio. Any radio edit is going to cut out the smooth solos/instrumentals and focus more on vocals, which makes sense for radio but handicaps the full power/build of the song. If Gotta Get Away struggled to hit #8 I don't see this doing much.
Really like the song on its own though, just don't think it's meant to be a successful single.

I'm assuming the radio version doesn't start at 2+ minutes into the song. It's not a bad song at all and I really like the guitar solos in it, but it doesn't seem like a radio song to me.

If this was 1970, this could totally be a big hit. But much like others have said, not sure how this will do in today's radio world of 3-4 minute type songs. It is nice to hear some guitar solos though. I would have went with 10 Lovers though, much more radio friendly.

I do like this song a lot, but it would not have been my choice for third single. Even with a significant cut I don't see how this will succeed. I was hoping for "It's Up To You Now" or "Bullet in the Brain".

This is a good song, but I honestly wish they'd have sent something else ("10 Lovers" or "Bullet in the Brain"). Usually I'd rather hear a song in full on the radio than a song that's obviously gonna get edited.

Love this. Doesn't sound like an Alt hit though. I'd have preferred they'd gone with the title track if they were going to release a slower song as a single.

I kinda agree with the second part of your post, but it's status as a single aside, I think this is a far better song than either of the two songs you mentioned. In fact, this has grown on me immensely this week, I'm really digging it. That definitely doesn't change the fact that it's a poor single choice though, haha.

Arguably the best song on the album, although not really radio friendly (I don't really know how the ALT format responds to tracks usually though).
I think "Fever" was the only obvious single on this record.

What is the longest song to reach Top 10 on Alt? Vicarious? Assuming we mean songs without radio edits, I'm guessing "The Day That Never Comes".

I agree that this is one of the album's best songs. In fact, I think a lot of people (myself included, at first) underrated this album because it wasn't as instant as El Camino. Many of the songs need multiple listens to resonate, but once they do, some are among the best the band's ever recorded. I think if they subbed out one or two songs toward the end of the album ("In Our Prime" and "It's Up To You Now" don't really excite me) for more radio-friendly tracks, many of the detractors would feel differently.
With that said, their best and possibly only chance at more radio success was pretty clearly with "Gotta Get Away." WOL is a better song (although I'm a GGA fan too), but if GGA scraped the Alt Top 10, I don't see it happening again with anything else from this album.

Has anyone heard this on the radio? Are they playing it in full or is there a radio edit available? I'm really curious to see which version is playing, and what a radio edit of this song sounds like. It's already rising through the Top 50, so I'm sure I'll hear it eventually.

Great choice (based on my personal preference - probably not as great a choice taking radio-friendliness into account). Really dig that smooth intro and the instrumental sections, though I assume that they'd get shortened significantly for the radio edit.
To anybody who's happened to hear this get played on the radio, how significant are the changes (assuming there's an edit)?

So I got my hands on a copy of the radio version, and it's not simply an edit. It's actually mixed differently in spots to where parts overlap to make the transitions smooth, and you can't recreate it simply by chopping the song up. Basically, they shorten the intro down to where the vocals come in at 0:53, with edit points/mix variations around the 24, 38, 41, and 52 second marks. In the process, they excise the entire guitar solo that takes up much of the album version's intro. They also omit the instrumental section following the first chorus and jump right to the bass guitar breakdown that goes into the second verse.
They do however keep the extended, minute-plus long instrumental part and guitar solo after the second chorus in its entirety. On the edited version, that section ends at right about the 4-minute mark, then they simply fade it a little early on the outro.
In all, the radio mix runs about 4:28 - certainly not too unwieldy for radio to handle. Personally, even with the edits/remix, I think this is an amazing piece of music, and I'll be sad if it doesn't do extremely well.
