Vince Gill wouldn't give as much of a boost, but considering how far back they go together, I wouldn't be surprised to see him be the choice. And even though he might not help on the airplay chart, he could help boost sales. Heck, a Vince duet may help Vince's airplay. He's pretty much been a non-factor on the radio for the entirety of this decade. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Need to hear the whole album, but just based on the clips I actually like the Justin song best.

Her album leaked. Haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but the song with Justin is so beautiful. It gives me chills. I love it.

www.thatscountry.com/am2/publish/audio/index.shtml --- you can listen to the album there. I'm only halfway through and this is a great cd. I like just about every song, a lot. Surprisingly, I didn't enjoy the Ronnie Dunn song very much as I was expecting that one to be a standout.

I added the cover and link to listen to the first post in the thread which includes songwriters and quotes.
Not surprising, I'm sure, but I love this cd. My favorites are the duets with Rimes, Hill, Clarkson, Timberlake, and Chesney. I'll give my song by song review at a later time.
I was hoping it wouldn't leak this early. But oh well.

I haven't listened to the whole album, but that Justin Timberlake song is killer. Heartbreaking.

I have mixed feelings on the Justin duet. I love the words, and the melody, and her voice. I just really can't stand those repititions. I'm sure I'll get used to them though. The chorus is gorgeous!
Naturally I love the LeAnn duet!!

I was just at another Reba site and they said that the Leann, Faith and Don Henley songs would not be released as singles because their record labels wouldn't allow it. Does anyone know exactly how this works and why they won't allow it? So far from my first listen the Leann and Don Henley songs were 2 of my favs.

I'm coming in here late, so maybe this opinion has already been expressed -- but I think she should choose a male artist for release #2. I think that would be good for album sales, to pick something with a different feel. Picking another non-country performer would appeal to the same buying audience, or close to it, that the current hit does. I think that would be a mistake. I agree, Zazie. Ideally, the next single should be a duet with a male country singer (or male band). It'll be interesting to see what they go with. After listening to the Vince duet, I just don't think it's a viable option.

I so hope this is not correct because the LeAnn and Faith duets are two of my favorites. I can understand the labels not wanting them released now because they're all trying to get their own songs up the charts. Faith's Red Umbrella is the final new song from her GH so that duet would be perfect for a third single. And the duet with Rimes is supposed to be on her cd too so it would make sense for a future single. I checked the site you're talking about and they also indicated the same thing for Kenny. But this site hasn't always produced the most accurate information. I was just at another Reba site and they said that the Leann, Faith and Don Henley songs would not be released as singles because their record labels wouldn't allow it. Does anyone know exactly how this works and why they won't allow it? So far from my first listen the Leann and Don Henley songs were 2 of my favs.

But then again I'm from Oklahoma so I could be biased. ;) I like the one with Vince too, but not as much as the one with Ronnie.

I LOVE the Reba/Justin duet.
I hope it's released.
This will be the first Reba album I buy since "It's Your Call". (actually I bought more at the used cd store, but I'm talking about soundscan).

At long last, I'll give my song-by-song review based on the streaming audio. My opinions could change a bit on some songs once I heard the CD version.
First, an overall assessment. When I look at my list of favorite Reba songs, the story songs and songs of heartache are the ones I tend to enjoy more. So it would stand to reason that I love this cd. The greatest strength of this cd, IMO, is the lyrics. For the most part, the partners complement Reba very well despite my concern that it seemed the focus was on more commercial duet partners. The cd isn't flawless but I do like it. It could probably use another uptempo number or two. Reba's vocals show flaws from time to time but also adds a bit to the vulnerability. But the vocals of her duet partners are near flawless.
1. "When You Love Someone Like That" w/ LeAnn Rimes
The cd kicks off with what turns out to be my favorite song on the album. LeAnn's vocals are actually understandable. In fact, her vocals are about as fine as they've sounded. I like how the ladies trade off repeat vocals on their respective chorus. Soaring vocals without necessarily shouting. The lyrics are also well-written.
2. "Does The Wind Still Blow In Oklahoma" w/ Ronnie Dunn; Written by Dunn/McEntire
This is, by far, the most traditional cut on the record. While I really enjoy the lyrics and like the story it tells, I'm just not enamored with the overall feel of the song. It also doesn't flow as well with the other songs because it is more overtly traditional while the others tend to be more middle-of-the-road neo-country.
3. "Because Of You" w/ Kelly Clarkson; Written by Clarkson
I've given my comments on this song in the BOY thread. I really like and have always felt Reba would do a great job on this song from the first time I heard Kelly perform it. One of my favorites on the cd.
4. "Faith In Love" w/ Rascal Flatts
I was apprehensive about this duet. I was concerned with how well Reba and Gary's vocals would mesh. They actually sound good together. While I grew to like the song based on the lyrics after a couple of listens, it is a bit run-of-the-mill.
5. "She Can't Save Him" w/ Trisha Yearwood; Written by Hengber/Regan
I like this song. They both sound great. But it should have been a solo. And I would have liked to have heard Trisha on harmony a bit more when they came together.
6. "Everyday People" w/ Carole King; Written by Rollins
The lone up-tempo song on the album. Both Reba and Carole have very distinctive voices that I think would work better on a ballad. The message of the song is great and it has a great melody but it's not a standout vocally. Though I do love Reba's harmony on the chorus.
7. "Every Other Weekend" w/ Kenny Chesney; Written by Harrington/Ewing
This song is great! A very touching ballad. Reba and Kenny sound great together and I'd probably be most interested in hearing a second duet from these two than with any other partner on the album. Just a great, great track.
8. "These Broken Hearts" w/ Vince Gill
Boring ballad. Again, the lyrics are nice but I just didn't feel the performance. Oddly enough, their voices never came together on this song.
9. "Sleeping With The Telephone" w/ Faith Hill; Written by Rollins
Another one of my favorites. Reba and Faith sound great together. Love the message in the song. Would love to hear them together again.
10. "The Only Promise That Remains" w/ Justin Timberlake; Written by Timberlake/Morris
This was a very pleasant surprise. I love this song. The lyrics are simple but not gradeschool. The arrangement is beautiful. And Justin's harmony, particularly on a couple of lines, just really completes the song. This is probably Reba's best vocal performance on the cd.
11. "Break Each Other's Heart Again" w/ Don Henley; Written by Randall/Wiggins
I love the verses to this song. It is well written. Reba and Don both sound great. However, I don't particularly like the melody of the chorus.

My roommate was watching the 9/11 episode of Oprah right then, and right at the end they played a piece of the Reba/Justin song while they were showing who were I think some of the victims. It gave me chills, and my roommate started to cry. The line about the sky falling....very sad.

I too hope the LeAnn duet eventually becomes a single, it is a GREAT song. Reba and LeAnn sound awesome together. LeAnn's record label is just plain stupid, so there's probably truth in the denial there.

*sigh* I love Reba :) To tell you the truth, I used to like quite a lot of female country artists, but over time and for various reasons, I've lost some respect for a lot of them. Now there are only very few I continue to hold in high regard-- Reba being one of them. Trisha being another. And my #1 favorite, Carrie, of course. www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/music/la-et-reba12sep12,1,2778059.story?coll=la-entnews-music

Thanks leila. Cute article.
Well, Justin will be performing with Reba on Oprah and now we find out that Reba will be performing her duet with Vince Gill on The Tonight Show. Maybe we'll get a mixture of duet performances during the album's promotional blitz.

I made the mistake of listening to the Justin duet first and now I can't get through any of the other songs. Wow. "The Only Promise That Remains" is so beautiful. It's haunting from the moment it starts. It just makes me want to sit still and listen and think and feel. I'm not exactly a JT fan, but damn, I can't deny that he's talented. He wrote this, right? Also, he doesn't even sound like himself here, but it seemed just right for the mood and feel of the song. Sorry, "Stay," you've been replaced at the top of my absolute-fave-at-the-moment list. As opposed to "Stay" which I absolutely loved after seeing the video and only really-liked after hearing the track, TOPTR had me at hello. Now this is a song I'll really be rooting for to reach #1. As if that matters, but hey...

She's on the cover of the new Billboard and is named Billboard's first ever "WOMAN OF THE YEAR"!
She notes in the article that it's her last album for MCA in her contract. She's (smartly) waiting to see how it does before she makes a decision about continuing with the label.

I am not a JT fan at all, but that duet rocks! I love it! Best song on the CD IMO also. IF JT sang like that more often, instead of sounding like a girl, I could easily become a fan of his! I really hope this is the next single, because it is amazing!
