I'd say that this was a fairly successful week. Though she only climbed 42-41*, she managed to gain over 300K in AI, which closes the gap to everyone from #37-40 ahead of her, and was more than Brantley Gilbert directly behind her at #42. Even better was her move on the Indicator chart, jumping 44-36* and gaining over 100 spins.
Next week, she should have a good chance at making the top 40 on the main chart. Kenny Chesney will go recurrent, as will Toby Keith if he doesn't rebullet. Chase Bryant and Darius Rucker are also in danger of being pulled too, so she could have a few different opportunities to make the top 40 next week.

Slow and steady is what they're going for with this one. It's the best strategy for any veteran artist. Those fast rises and flame-outs like Garth has had are bad for singles. Especially since the burn rate can be higher. I still think this ultimately will get a Top 20 airplay peak (which is great for an artist of her age in the agist radio business, especially for women).

I completely agree about the slow and steady approach being beneficial, though I don't think Reba had much of a choice with her affiliation with Cumulus now and to a lesser extent her age.
The total stations is still going to be a problem as "Going Out Like That" got just 1 add this week and 6 total the past two weeks. I still think a top 30 peak is the ceiling.

My concern is that on COUNTRY AIRCHECK even though she has highest audience among the songs ranked 50-40 at 5.859 she has the lowest stations of the whole chart at 36. The rest of the songs ranked 50-40 range from 75 to 113 stations My question, how many Billboard stations does she have compared to the others ranked 50-40? Slow and steady is what they're going for with this one. It's the best strategy for any veteran artist. Those fast rises and flame-outs like Garth has had are bad for singles. I agree with the slow and steady analysis both of you are speaking of however, I'm hoping Top 10 peak. I'm saying that because this seems to be a stronger single compared to the singles released on Valory. And in my opinion were weaker songs. Judging from the stats below what are your takes on this. Valory is promoting this single to radio too FWIW. But I wouldn't compare "Going Out Like That" to "Somebody's Chelsea" or "When Love Gets A Hold Of You." It's a first single from a previously-unreleased recording so that makes "Strange" and "Turn On The Radio" the apt comparisons and BOTH were higher up the charts before this one in week #4.

I find it very interesting that just on 36 adds she had made it that far on the charts! Every other song on this weeks chart has 75+ stations, now they may not all be playing it actively. But she has 36 stations and that has gotten her pretty far! I'm hoping that if she can make it to Top 40 more stations will start to pick it up.

Like I posted above the reason she is as far as she is has to do with the audience number. Ironically the song in 50-40 has the lowest number of stations but has the highest audience. So, the markets that NASH Icon managed to get adds were the right ones.

So, the markets that NASH Icon managed to get adds were the right ones. Reba has a very high audience because her song is one of the few songs in this portion of the chart to be getting airplay on Westwood One's Mainstream Country station (which is a satellite, Mediabase-only station). www.allaccess.com/mediabase/q/report/playlist/station/W1MC-FM2.325 million of this song's audience is from ONE station alone (Westwood One's Mainstream Country, at the link above). That's why "Going Out Like That" has 5.859 million on the published Mediabase chart but only 3.403 million on Billboard. Reba's lower adds number is because of her affiliation with Cumulus (and Westwood One is a Cumulus station too). A few Clear Channel and CBS stations have added the song, but most of them have not...and even the few that have added it aren't playing it all that much--just a few spins here and there. It definitely looks like "Going Out Like That" can get into the 30's at some point within the next few weeks, but if it can't get many more adds, there's only so high that it can go based off support that's pretty much from Cumulus alone. If you take a look at the leaders report on AllAccess ( click here and log-in), you can see that GOLT is getting anywhere from 20-35 spins a week at about 18 stations (which is half of her add total). The problem is that almost all of these leading "spinners" are Cumulus stations. The leading supporters for "Going Out Like That" are KHKI Des Moines, WKHX Atlanta, WGKX Memphis, KRST Albuquerque, KATC Colorado Springs, WKDF Nashville, KUBL Salt Lake City, KATM Stockton, KIIM Tucson, WIVK Knoxville, WFMS Indianapolis, KPLX Dallas, KIZN Boise, WNSH New York, KSKS Fresno, and WITL Lansing...and they are all Cumulus stations. The only top supporters of this song that aren't Cumulus stations are Townsquare's KUAD in Fort Collins, Colorado (25 spins in the last 7 days), Momentum's KJUG in Visalia, California (22 spins), and Alpha Media's KUPL in Portland, Oregon (14 spins). Clear Channel and CBS are the other 2 big conglomerates (besides Cumulus), but currently there isn't a single CC or CBS station among the leaders (leading spinners) for "Going Out Like That".

I really hope she gets #40 on Billboard tonight. I would love to see Reba McEntire enter the top 40 this week. I highly doubt that will happen. I was right about that. #41 for the week. Come on, Reba, climb one more to get your 88th top 40 hit. That would be the same number of top 40s as Conway Twitty! Debuts at #49 up in Canada!

Reba's been tweeted....as I think most of us assumed...in a tweet she was asked "@reba Are you doing anything special at the ACMs? Going Out Like That?" and her reply "@carla_Bama Oh yeah!! Really looking forward to the ACM’s this year! In Dallas!!!" I guess that answers the question.
Also her stylist Brett Freedman had commented on something on Instagram saying that he was going to Nashville to do the video for GOLT....now I'm pretty sure he's already been to Nash to film... I think they see there is struggle with this song and need to do something...anything to try...

I think there's a chance that this can finally crack the Billboard top 40 on Monday. I'm guessing Garth Brooks will re-enter, and Kenny Chesney is the only one that will go recurrent. Now I think Kenny's new one "Wild Child" and possibly and Kip Moore's "I'm To Blame" might both jump ahead of Reba, but Reba's had a pretty decent week so far, and so I think she might be able to jump ahead of the 3 songs that were directly ahead of her on the current Billboard chart: those by Frankie Ballard, Dustin Lynch, and Jon Pardi.
The result is a net gain of +1 or +2, depending on whether Reba can stay in front of Kip Moore or not...Kenny's "Til It's Gone" and Garth's "Mom" will likely cancel each other out, and "Going Out Like That" will most likely get passed by "Wild Child", but I do think she can pass up that trio of newer guys to make up for it.

She had another solid AI update again today. I'm not sure if the stations adding all of the AI will count for Billboard or not, but on Mediabase she has had a much stronger week this week than she did last week. Interest is definitely there, and if she can overcome some of the resistance from some stations to add the song (because of the Nash Icons affiliation), I really think that she could have a decent sized hit.

Glad the song is hanging in there. I hope the stations that are giving this the most spins early on stick with it while others potentially latch on.

Moved up 1 this week on Billboard to #40!
The preview this morning for Mediabase said she's moved up to #42. She also picked up 3 more adds!

Unless I'm forgetting someone, I think this now makes Reba the oldest female artist to hit the top 40.

Right, but even still, Reba is 59 and 10 and a half months, while Dolly was 59 and 9 months when "When I Get Where I'm Going" hit the top 40.

The picture of her is great, probably one of the best cover photos in her discography (which says a lot considering she's pushing 60). I don't like the font or placement of Love Somebody but this is miles better than the recent tin foiled All The Women I Am or striped Duets covers.

I love Reba! but I just cant get into this lead single. it just doesn't feel "reba" to me. I have always thought her best lead single was FEAR OF BEING ALONE. i just think this song sounds like something Lila McCan would have recorded back in the day
