Should have just started off with the JB/Ariana/etc. sing-along in the first place, no one would have side-eyed her for doing that again as an 'introduction' to the song. If it'd taken off because of that, then Bieber/Ariana "making" this a hit would've been all the more reason to side-eye the whole campaign. While I love this song, I can't stand the Biebs, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. The reason to not start with that first would've been so that way the song's fortunes (and arguably her career future, by extension) wouldn't have been tied to them.

Hmm maybe people don't wanna admit that they like the song but they sneak and buy/stream it This is definitely a song I would be embarrassed to play for certain people in my life, if not all of them. She's kinda like a female Hanson.

Well she needs to tie it to somebody, b/c this languishing we got going on right now is not the business! lol

Hopefully the next single "Run Away With Me" does well. It's fantastic and for all ages.

I realize this could potentially be considered career suicide and biting the hand that feeds her, but maybe she needs to distance herself from Bieber. Most Americans still associate her with him, despite the fact she was a Top 3 finalist on Canadian Idol and that "Call Me Maybe" was performing respectably for a CanCon song before the Biebs came into the picture. That Bieber association also leads to another thing--lack of a male fanbase. I swear, I'm probably one of the few American guys who actually has had a crush on her (so did that Mitch feller on this board, I don't know what his screen name is now). But anyway, Beyoncé appeals to men, Katy appeals to men, Rihanna appeals to men. Hell, so do Taylor and Miley. But because of Justin and the way we Yanks love to generalize things, she's pigeonholed as a teenybopper bubblegum artist, and that's not fair. It sucks us Pulsers are more enlightened fellers than the typical US listening audience, but in a perfect world, she would be the equal to all those other female pop stars. Bottom line, he's a blessing and a curse.

She's awesome, and I really don't understand the promotion with this. I mean ,she got SNL of all places.

Sorry but i don't understand all the embarrasing comments, Call me maybe is way better than the average pop song charting (with an amazing video) and this is catchy.
Of course i never got why Hanson were that embarrasing, the singles of their first album were way better than most teen acts from then on

As much as I like Carly and can't wait for the album. Her style this era is way off. How can her style from 2013 go from this- to this While a no good artist like PSY can get a 2nd hit with "Gentlemen" with people being curious to what it would sound like and Carly is having trouble getting a 2nd solo hit. There seems to be little interest in her no matter how much they promote her. Maybe she needs to fix up her style this era,Back in 2012-2013 it looked way better. At the moment,We should just be happy that the album will be released this month. It could be her last major release if things don't become a success this era. :)

to this I actually think her new look has potential now they they dyed her hair black, very 'Mirrors Edge' (gaming reference btw). I also think the pic you chose of her old look is incredibly unflattering lol.
She kinda needs to just stick to a theme look wise for the era and run with it. That's what seems to work for artists best nowadays. Her outfits are always incredibly random and hit or miss.

Her outfits lately have been all inspired on the album, they are very classy and has that 80's modern feel. Her performances too, check out the GMA performance.
She's probably living a era inspired by that like Madonna used to do. I have to admit that her 2012-2013 looks were flawless though. Her hair now is messy, she should use a wig or extensions on her next music video.

I think she looks a lot cuter in the second picture. But, maybe that is because the first picture's outfit is insanely unflattering and I think she looks better when she smiles which she is in the second picture.

Yeah her look in the summer of '12 was the best. But I still think it's people not letting her escape from her "Call Me Maybe" past. It's time to judge an artist's song by its own merits and not by past associations. Argh, the trouble w/radio.

As proof that she looked best during 2012-13 like the above posters indicated, may I give you exhibit C... (aka the reason I like brunettes ;) )
Seriously, the brunette locks are a really good contrast to her paleness. When she went redhead, it really exposed her paleness, and not necessarily in a very flattering light. However, when she appeared with Fran Drescher last year on Katie Couric's talk show to promote Cinderella on Broadway, she was looking like her cute old self, as indicated in the video below. Not to mention, her hair was a brownish-red here. Finally, Carly going all jet black is nothing new. Remember the Candies ad campaign? Exhibit D!
Looking pretty fine here, if you tell me, even w/the specs. My verdict about her going back to dark hair again: Absolutely positively not guilty! Going back to the song's chances BTW, keep in mind that the MuchMusic Video Awards are a week from Sunday, so I don't know how that may factor in perhaps a resurgence on the Canadian Hot 100 charts. But if she can be on the MMVAs, then maybe there's still some hope regarding promotion in North America. We shall see.

IRLY is still being ignored by radio stations; it gained in streaming, digital and shazam but still they're ignoring it.
Didn't the call outs got a little better also? Why. why. why. It's like they want her to flop so hard.

I think it's slowly growing on the public...
Saw this cute convo between Kevin Biegel (writer/producer for "Scrubs" "Enlisted" "Cougar Town") & Mike Royce (producer "Everybody Loves Raymond" "Men of a Certain Age") this morning:

one hit is better than none. You're failing to recognize her Top 10 pop and Hot 100 hit "Good Time." No matter which way you slice it, by the books, Jepsen is not a one-hit wonder. Same goes for Owl City.

There is possibly no greater eye-roll inducing, horse-beaten statement at this point than "Don't forget Carly Rae Jepsen's second Top 10 hit Good Time!"

I don't find a reminder of Good Time eye roll inducing at all - other people's crappy memory recall doesn't change facts, despite what seems to be an almost collective effort to do just that - but Carly herself made it kind of hard to keep defending her that way by playing up the one hit wonder thing in an attempt to promote IRLY, so I can't even be mad at anyone who continues to call her that. It would have been smarter of her to remind people of GT herself, to emphasize that CMM wasn't a fluke.

Here's an idea, radio: let's just make this be a hit so we don't have to debate it at all. Good? Good.

Or we could just tweet iHeartRadio to knock of the bulls**t and just play the damn song. The fact it had staying power on streaming says a lot. Oh wait, this is the company formerly known as ClearChannel telling you what to like and not to like. Screw 'em.

I was rooting for her and this almost worked, but can't really blame radio. Sales aren't high enough to impress, callout scores are atrocious, video views are ok but not the stunning viral success that would have pumped this further on radio. They tried, but it just didn't work. Top 30 peak on pop seems about right all things considered. Hoping they have something else that may catch on. If not, at least this is doing well overseas and in Canada?

55th on iTunes currently. And it's got 7 weeks left to try to stay in the top 50.

It is interesting although that someone like PSY can score big on the charts with his followups but Carly can't at all.Scooter Braun knows how to promote his artists even if they don't score a hit, they are still on major shows with their singles. If this is done, At best we can hope we can hope is the push for a 2nd single to hit U.S CHR/Pop radio.
