In addition to having the most #1's of any group this century, Maroon 5 by January will have a total of 28 weeks at #1 on AT40, counting the next two weeks as a "frozen" chart. (21 of those 28, and 5 of their 7 #1's, have been since 2011.) "Blank Space" should take over on the first chart of the new year unless something leaps over it during the next couple of weeks, but its Mediabase lead is large and growing enough so I don't think that will happen. "Don't" and "Blame" won't get to the top, but don't blame (aren't I clever?) the holiday freeze, as neither was going to overtake M5 or Taylor anyway. "Don't" does get a fairly impressive four weeks at #2 with the frozen weeks added.

"Too Cool to Dance", "I Lived", and "I Don't Mess With You" (using AT40 bowdlerization) should all be among the many debuts of the first 2015 chart; other possible new entrants include "The Hanging Tree" and "Prayer In C". Not many big moves this week other than "Uptown Funk", but that'll definitely change on the next new chart, along with several currently relatively high ranked hits possibly dropping off.

And incidentally, given the importance of the number 40 here, it's worth noting that the current host of the show reaches that birthday next week (Christmas Eve, to be exact.)

I think she needed that. Generally an artist with the constant presence on the charts ends burn in a couple of years. She is an exception, but being a little cautious is not a bad idea.
Now she can generate buzz for her new album, and to be fair she was on the radio not so much ago, so it's impossible that the lack of radio presence affect her

That's not strictly an AT40 thing but a radio thing. KIIS is already saying "Mess" and that's what's indicated as the radio version on Wikipedia:

Ryan said there was a record-setting 54 one-word Top 40 titles in 2014 before introducing the #1 song this week. I imagine the total was different for Hot AC.

Going by the All + Recurrent Chart, which I thought was what AT40 uses, Vance Joy was at #57 two weeks ago. If that's correct, this is why he isn't charting yet.

Not necessarily...best approximization puts it at #44 on the matching Mediabase chart - so, toss-up at best. You could actually make a stronger case for "I Lived" to have debuted this week, as it entered the Top 40 on that same chart at #40. If anything, I'd have seen "Maps" fall off, with "I Lived" taking its spot, thus "Prayer in C" could have moved into the "new song" spot.

In any case, both songs will no doubt appear come the new year.

My station, Y-100, started the show an hour early. Apparently they aired a Pharrell Williams I-Heart top 20 countdown right after. I hate
when they pull stunts like this. Especially with the 2 weeks of 2014 coming up. On of those is all I can handle.
Anyway, I'm not surprised that LA Love is dropping, but I thought Gwen Stefani's song would do better. No droppers out of the top 20 this week.
