Not a fan of this. Maybe it's a grower, but for now, I'll pass. Rihanna can do way better than what the heck this is supposed to be.

LMAO at some of your reactions. This song is awesome. I'm impressed with Rihanna's vocals.

I like it a lot. Her voice sounds fantastic! I hope it is the lead single.

If this charts higher than "Only One", I will be very disappointed.

I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I think this is the most negative reaction I have seen for a song in a LONG time. I can't even imagine what it sounds like reading some of your descriptions too LOL. Deciding whether I should listen now while a little drunk or wait for morning.
EDIT I forgot Spark the Fire nevermind about it being a long time since a song had almost all negative feedback!

Deciding whether I should listen now while a little drunk or wait for morning. A drunk listen would be better than sober listening for sure. Optimally you'd be high though.

Wow Rihanna has grown so much vocally! I LOVE THIS!
I honestly could hear this on the radio playing alongside other alternative/hipster tracks that seem to be popular these days.

Oh wow. Definitely wasn't expecting Rihanna to drop her single like this.
Regarding the actual single, it's weird but I'm enjoying it so far. I fully expect that it'll grow on me even more. It's a nice change of pace from her, although I hope that the album will have a little more diversity. That being said, it's easily my least favorite lead single from her to date. I'm curious as to how this'll perform in the long run.

Okay you guys, I've given this a few more listens. And it just gets more embarrassing with each play. This can't be the lead single.

It's not my cup of tea at all but it's at least interesting. Certainly stronger than a lot of the trash that rockets into the top 10 at CHR.
Personally, I think it's kind of cool that Rihanna chose to go a different route rather than just staying in her lane of serviceable but mostly unremarkable radio fodder.

Apparently Dave Longstreth (of Dirty Projectors) is among the several people credited on this track - any idea where he comes in? This is OK (a bit too c-a-m-p-f-i-r-e s-o-n-g song to be an obvious radio hit), but I'd imagine it'd be way more interesting had some of his/DP's sound was present.
Curious to see how radio takes to this following whatever hourly radio deal is in place - though I guess it's realistically not all that left-field for radio as it is for her in particular.

I kinda like it. It reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it yet. Maybe in a few listens.

Wow! Surprised at the mostly negative reaction! I kinda like it :) I think they went for a raw unadulterated vocal take, which tbh is refreshing to hear after so much autotune infused music. I would've liked it better if there were less of whatever noise/ chatter happening in first Kanye verse and if Rihanna's voice felt a bit less strained/cracked But still I think this is a stronger and more dynamic vocal performance from Rihanna. Sort of reminds me of the left field feeling of Russian roulette. Will be interesting to see the reaction of pop radio... I think similar to RR. Whatever happens, props to Rih for doing something different!!

Welp. I read the thread before listening to the song and couldn't understand how can this possibly be weird. Now I know it. Jesus, this song IS WEIRD AF. The opening sequence destroyed my ears, but the last chorus is godly. Cannot decide if I like it or nah. Devil Marlena Nylund : "Burnin' Up" by the Jonas Brothers? The melody of this sounds like a slower version of "Burnin' Up" to me.

Sent basically everywhere through Play MPE - label listed as Roc Nation, FYI. By that you mean Urban, Rhythmic, Pop, HAC, and AC? ------------------ Either way, it took some big balls to release this so regardless of how it does, my respect for her as an artist has grown even more. Still, regardless of the negative reactions, I still believe this song will be a big hit.

instead of them compromising their usual sounds in doing a karaoke version of what seen could be a Paul's song. I can't see Paul McCartney singing about willin' and spazzin'. It may not be their usual sound, but that doesn't mean they compromised anything. They definitely added their own flair to it. I think this reaction to a basic guitar and vocal song is enough evidence that we need more of this. Lol, at people calling it "weird". I hope 2015 has more Uptown Funks and FourFiveSeconds'. The public has forgotten just what "pop" music has the potential to be. Acoustic tunes, rock anthems, hip hop, dance, even a little country. I remember when pop used to regularly play all that stuff at the same time.

I don't understand why people say she grow up vocally. Rihanna always sound great recorded, it's the live performances the ones that are atrocious
Given the reaction i'm very curious
