I just can't even bring myself to buy this. I have literally never not bought a Rihanna single. I keep trying to make myself like it. It's not even the style. Something like this could have been really cool. It's just SO bad.

I only listened to the sample on iTunes- it's different for her, and I don't think it sounds terrible on first listen. For some, who don't expect this sound from her, perhaps that makes it "bad."
On a side note, the way some talk about it being so long hearing her on a new song- it's only been two years and chance since she released her last studio album. And she did feature on new singles in 2013 and 2014.

I'm absolutely loving this. The production is so different from what we're used to from her, but the basic tune and lyrics are fully on point. It sounds like they made the song and went "okay, great. Now let's make an acoustic version." I wouldn't be against hearing this with the power of full production behind it, but I feel like I might still prefer this version.

That's probably literally the only thing I appreciate about this song - how unexpected and different it is for her. It's still a terrible song to me. If sounds like a group of people got high out of their mind and recorded something on their laptop. I love acoustic, mellow songs. Just not this one.

instead of them compromising their usual sounds in doing a karaoke version of what seen could be a Paul's song. I can't see Paul McCartney singing about willin' and spazzin'. Seriously. Not getting the Fleetwood Mac comparison either. A lot of people are throwing out random rock bands and saying it sounds like them-- all because this is acoustic. This reminds me of an acoustic version of "Cheers".

And yeah there is definitely a glitch. Hopefully we get an update by noon.

I don't understand why its not showing up on Itunes (chart) though. ??? She's broken iTunes :'( Probably similar to Madonna drop that iTunes will take hours to catch-up. I don't think this will sell simply because it's RiRi or KW. I kind of look at this experiment like P!nk's acoustic side project - she's wanted to do an acoustic album for five years now, but no way is she going to ruin her 'brand' with a standard release. It's smart for Rihanna to take on these musical challenges. Not my thing, but I respect artists who try different things.

I don't understand why people say she grow up vocally. Rihanna always sound great recorded, it's the live performances the ones that are atrocious Given the reaction i'm very curious You obviously didn't watch he Grammys performance of Stay... Anyway I can't believe the reaction Pulse is having to this song... If this was Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson ya'll would be poppin it...

Rihanna's voice has definitely improved over the years, but this song is not a good example of that. The croaking sounds she's making, especially in the first verse, are unbearable. This is actually one of her worst vocals on a single in my opinion.

I keep seeing this criticism thrown around and it's bothering me. What's with everyone saying she sounds like she's high off her ass? This is a Rihanna song. Of course she was fucking high.

Well this is not as bad as u guys are saying but this is definitely not a lead single material by Rihanna, this should JUST be a song for the fans or a buzz song. I kinda like Rihanna's parts but Kanye here is so cringe worthy

The good news is that within a week we'll have a handful of urban bootlegs that beef this up a bit. Knowing the crowd Rihanna attracts, they'll probably be pretty good too. There's no way in hell the clubs aren't going to find a way to play a new Rihanna song.

Yo, people who saying we're unsure because the sound is different - the sound IS different, yes, but there's plenty of great music out there with this sound.
This is just a bad song. Average melody, atrocious 'singing' by Kanye and just no POWER. How her label is behind this I have no idea.

How her label is behind this I have no idea. It's listed on iTunes as being released under Westbury Rd. Entertainment, which is apparently her own label. Granted it's a part of Roc Nation, so to what degree she has freedom even under her own label, I'm not sure.

Oh, you should not mind. It's usual standard for pulsemusic. Generally there are two types of reaction, the song is amaaaazing or it's pure shit. With time no matter how the thread starts, things usually get in the middle (if the song is really bad the thread is abandoned unless the song became a success, of course). I remember a very bad reaction to Diamonds, i loved the song and i didn't undertand what people was talking about. Anyway, since Russian Roulette (what an underrated song) Rihanna has a tendency to surprise with her first single

I recall the reactions to "Russian Roulette" and "Diamonds" being more along the lines of "this is a boring lead single" than "this is a terrible song".

Rihanna stans reacted that way to any criticism is got, though. Something along the lines of they couldn't understand why people didn't connect with such an innovative and deeply moving song. Seems oddly familiar if you ask me.
