According to Google Trends, interest in Janet, Beyonce & Madonna reached record high's after their superbowl halftime performance. As of now, the most talked about performance has been Janet's, followed by Beyonce (google trends 2004-present). Will Katy Perry top Janet & Beyonce? 1) Janet Jackson2) Beyonce 3) Madonna 4) Bruno Mars 5) The Black Eyed Peas 6) Prince Divas have the top 3 slots, so it seems likely Katy will end up somewhere in the top 4. I didn't include Janet in the chart above because her lead is so huge, that it makes the chart difficult to read:

I can't see her topping Janet, Beyonce, and Madonna's shows, unless her vocals are just that awful or she has a wardrobe malfunction in which all her clothes somehow come off or there is an uproar over a substance she shoots out of her boobs.

She'll probably get more than Bruno only because she's a woman and a hot one at that, so most of the comments will be about her looks. I can't see her doing more than the top 3 for doing a good job so if she does beat them, it'll be because she royally fucked up.

She'll beat Bruno, but probably not Madonna and Beyonce. They are just both much bigger icons in the industry. Janet Jackson is obviously in another league because of the wardrobe malfunction.

Janet showed boob and changed live television forever and Beyonce literally caused a blackout. It would take an unimaginable act to top either one of those.

Katy can get to #1… if she pulls down Lenny Kravitz's pants and exposes his anaconda...

She could try to get people talking by shooting something out of her boobs. In the past she's shot fireworks and whip-cream from her boobs. I wouldn't be surprised if she tried something.

I think she'll definitely do something to get people talking the next day. Good or bad, that's indeterminable as of right now, but regardless, I don't think it'll be enough to generate more interest than Janet, Beyonce, or Madonna. Janet had the nipslip, Bey had the blackout, and Madonna had the MIA middle finger escapade. Unless she's either A) literally going out naked or B) brings Taylor Swift out for something to end their feud, I don't see her causing as much of a stir as the other 3 managed to.

I think she will get a lot of attention obviously, but it is hard to imagine her beating any of those years especially since she has already stated that she is "about the music" only and was pretty condescending about how other artists were using "shock" tactics like the middle finger or boob. So, I expect a colorful, fun performance that people like, but not the amount of attention that the others got especially since people were talking about the others for like, months afterward.

She'll go with the controversy angle if she's smart. She doesn't have anywhere near the starpower of her competition in this poll.
Whatever controversy means to her, I dunno, but I'm hoping she takes a dig at Taylor and really kicks that feud into high gear. The alternative is recreating the infamous Madonna/Britney kiss with her female guest (that'd be fun!), but who knows? Whatever happens, her only shot is besting Madonna, and even that is going to take something huge.

Katy's an inoffensive mainstream Pop artist, who doesn't have anything exceptional to offer.
She won't touch Bey, Madonna or Janet, and I'm already thinking she'll rank at the bottom with the Peas.
Just the fact that people are speculating she'll diss Taylor as part of her act tells me what I need to know. Most acts have something to fall back on other than dissing fellow Pop stars and boobs that shoot whipped cream....

Lots of people watched it, maybe her performance was so kooky that lots of people talked about it. We'll see, but it does look like she's going to top Madonna, but not Beyonce. Google is already reporting the numbers from Feb 1, Feb 2 will be big too, but Feb 1 will likely be her peak. For Katy, its already the biggest interest peak of her career, which was to be expected. By the way, Madonna's peak (2004 - present) is when she performed "Hung Up" at the EMA's back in Nov of 2005. Katy will likely end up a little below that performance. It was a big draw, but not enough for her to enter into the top 10 moments in pop music: The biggest moments worldwide in pop music: Biggest Peaks (According to Google Trends)** #1 Janet Jackson Feb 2004 Nipplegate / Superbowl Performance #2 Whitney Houston Feb 2012 Death #3 Britney Spears Dec 2006 Breakdown #4 Miley Cyrus Aug 2013 VMA Twerking #5 Britney Spears Sep 2007 Gimme More VMA performance #6 Lady Gaga March 2010 Her Reign #7 Rihanna Feb 2009 Chris Brown Incident #8 Adele Feb 2012 Adele wins 6 Grammy's #9 Shakira June 2010 World Cup Performance #10 Beyonce Feb 2013 Superbowl Performance ** I did a thorough search of all the top acts on google trends, but if someone wants to search more, compare all artists to Beyonce. She's #10. Anyone that beats her peak would enter into the top 10 of all time. Here's a link.

It was a big draw, but not enough for her to enter into the top 10 moments in pop music: Lets look at it this way, Katy Perry's superbowl month (February 2015) is at 81% of Beyonce's superbowl month (February 2013). If she gets the 24 to 27% of Beyonce's total that she got in each of the last 2 months for the rest of February, she passes Beyonce. Considering that February 2nd is one of those days, it's very likely that she'll exceed that.Edit: After looking into the Google Trends and how 'partial data' works, I've realized that its not cumulative (as in, future days would just be added in to give the eventual total), but a continuing average (the values of future days are averaged in to give the eventual total). Needless to say I'm fairly embarrassed about my misunderstanding and about getting ahead of myself.

Needless to say I'm fairly embarrassed about my misunderstanding and about getting ahead of myself. It's ok, it's a pretty complex formula that they use. We'll need to wait till the month is over to really know where she'll end up. I was watching GT during the worldcup to see who would peak higher, Shakira's closing ceremony performance or JLo's opening ceremony performance. Early on, JLo seemed to have a huge lead, but as the month came to a close, her lead fell dramatically. So yeah, we gotta wait a bit to know where she'll end up. Any score based on partial data is capable of either rising or falling before the month completes.I love google trends. It's the best way to gauge what got people's attention. Someone really needs to grab your attention to get you to go online and search for them. For that reason, its arguably the best chart to figure out who grabbed people's attention after an event.

Janets breasts have more star power than anything Madonna, Beyonce and Katy could ever muster up. Miss Jackson reigns supreme!

Alright, the official numbers are now in. She's #4: 1) Janet Jackson 2) Beyonce 3) Madonna 4) Katy Perry5) Bruno Mars 6) The Black Eyed Peas 7) Prince Interestingly, almost everyone guessed right. Katy didn't make it on the all time list. To enter into the top 10 she would have needed to beat Beyonce. Also, it looks like Madonna's recent fall at the Brits is not going to enter into the top 10 either. The biggest moments worldwide in pop musicBiggest Peaks (According to Google Trends)** #1 Janet Jackson Feb 2004 Nipplegate / Superbowl Performance #2 Whitney Houston Feb 2012 Death #3 Britney Spears Dec 2006 Breakdown #4 Miley Cyrus Aug 2013 VMA Twerking #5 Britney Spears Sep 2007 Gimme More VMA performance #6 Lady Gaga March 2010 Her Reign #7 Rihanna Feb 2009 Chris Brown Incident #8 Adele Feb 2012 Adele wins 6 Grammy's #9 Shakira June 2010 World Cup Performance #10 Beyonce Feb 2013 Superbowl Performance Also worth mentioning, Shakira's 2014 world cup performance of "La La La" was more talked about than Katy's superbowl performance this year. But, its very close to a tie: ( see chart)

By the way, I noticed that Justin Bieber's peak is almost as high as Miley's, which would put him at #5 on your list.
