Lee Brice would be an eyebrow-raising pick. The program is really supposed to be for new artists who are on the verge of breaking. Lee's already had four #1 songs. He's at least on the C-list at radio, possibly on the B-list. Plus his song could be very close to top 30 by the time the program begins. If he gets chosen it would sort of defeat the whole purpose of the program, which is to introduce listeners to new artists who they might not have heard of.
As for bjer's suggestions, Chris Stapleton has very little radio support and his music sticks out like a sore thumb on today's country radio, as does Mo Pitney's, even though Pitney seems to have a little bit of radio support. Jon Pardi is a possibility but I still don't think his song is nearly as good a fit for radio as "Backroad Song."

sabre14, your "official confirmation" for Granger Smith's "Backroad Song" as the next OTV pick is here. ETA: whoops now I see you already saw in the all-genre thread, lol

Bumping this thread again to do a follow-up on the artists that have been featured for OTV in the over 2 years.
Craig Campbell: follow-up song barely scraped top 40 Dustin Lynch: "Hell Of A Night" went #1; "Mind Reader" in the top 20 Sam Hunt: probably the most-successful OTV pick with 2 more #1's and a #2 peak for "BUIAST" Chase Bryant: current single close to the top 10 even after nearly a year on the charts RaeLynn: follow-up did zilch A Thousand Horses: follow-up missed the top 20 (even after re-entering the charts a few weeks back)
The remaining acts (Chris Janson, Cam, Granger Smith) are too soon to tell yet as their second songs are about to climb the charts or about to debut.

Bump. The next OTV pick will probably happen in late June or early July...it seems that they're on a pattern of going about 2 1/2 to 3 months between selections. The current OTV selection (announced on April 4) is Tucker Beathard's "Rock On". I noticed that there's only been one UMG artist selected, and that was MCA's Sam Hunt ("Leave the Night On") in June 2014. So I'm wondering if maybe a UMG artist will get selected next? iHeartMedia isn't obligated to pick X amount of artists from label A and X amount of artists from label B, but I do think they probably make a conscious effort to spread it around a little bit, so as to not have 3 or 4 selections in a row from the same label or anything like that. So far, we've had 4 BBRMG artists selected (Dustin Lynch, Chase Bryant, and Granger Smith, and I'm counting Craig Campbell even though he was on Bigger Picture at the time), 3 BMLG artists (RaeLynn, A Thousand Horses, and Tucker), 2 WMN artists (Michael Ray and Chris Janson), and 2 Sony artists (Cam and Maren Morris). There's a decent to good chance that whichever song gets selected next hasn't even been announced as a single yet. But I'm bored, so I'm thinking about who it could be If it's a UMG artist, there aren't a lot of choices. I doubt it would be Lauren Alaina, Kelleigh Bannen, or Haley Georgia, it certainly won't be Clare Dunn, and guys like Easton Corbin and especially Josh Turner are too well-established. It won't be anyone like Canaan Smith, Kacey Musgraves, David Nail, Kip Moore, or Jon Pardi, and I don't think it'd be a new Eric Paslay single either. And finally I highly doubt it would be Charles Kelley or Hillary Scott, given that Lady A's hiatus isn't expected to be nearly as long as Sugarland's has been (and so far, country programmers have avoided picking artists who are fairly well-established, which would include both Lady A members). That really only leaves Mickey Guyton, and I definitely think her being selected is a strong possibility, especially since it's rumored that she'll be dropping a new single within the next month or so. Also, radio really seemed to be on-board with "Better Than You Left Me" but unfortunately that one just didn't connect as well as they and the label hoped. The only other UMG possibilities would be newcomers Brandon Lay or Jordan Davis, but neither of them has been assigned to an imprint yet, and I personally don't expect either of them to release music until late 2016 or 2017. Sony has had 2 of the last 4 picks (Cam and Maren) but LANco could certainly be a possibility for the next selection. Logan Mize, Tyler Farr, and Chase Rice would be other possibilities, but I don't think it'll be any of them, especially the latter two, as Chase's last single bombed (I don't think radio likes him all that much) and I doubt Tyler has new music ready to go given that he had surgery not that long ago. Plus, both Tyler and Chase have already had a couple of big hits. Warner Nashville has a couple of possibilities. Charlie Worsham has new music on the horizon, and radio really liked "Could It Be" but it sold poorly. Other possibilities would be Ryan Kinder, The Railers, or The Last Bandoleros. BMLG has a bunch of possibilities: Danielle Bradbery, The Cadillac Three (who have announced a single with a May 31 impact date), Midland, Lauren Jenkins, Tara Thompson, Levi Hummon, Cassadee Pope, and Ashley Campbell. Cassadee strikes me as someone who might have a decent chance, given that her new single is called "Summer". The song is being released awfully late for a summer song, so an OTV selection could get it into the top 30 and top 20 fairly quickly. Also, she's just coming off the success of "Think Of You" so perhaps iHeartMedia will want to further her momentum and create a feel-good story around it. If they went with Cassadee, they'd be checking two boxes: (1) breaking another female artist and (2) ensuring that their selection would be a hit. Tara Thompson probably isn't likely given the poor response that her debut single received, but Levi Hummon might be a candidate since he's on his radio tour right now. BBRMG has a few possibilities, namely Lindsay Ell, Brooke Eden, and Runaway June. I think Runaway June might have a shot, but they're really the only BBRMG artist that I could see getting picked as the next OTV selection. I suppose a Curb or even a Reviver artist could get selected but I don't think it's very likely, at least not for this next selection. Summarizing: here's how I'd rank the artists, with the most likely ones at the top: • Mickey Guyton (UMG) • Charlie Worsham (Warner Bros.) • Cassadee Pope (BMLG) • LANco (Sony) • Runaway June (BBRMG) • Levi Hummon (BMLG) • Mo Pitney (Curb) • The Last Bandoleros (Warner Bros.) • Lindsay Ell (BBRMG) • Anderson East (Low Country Sound/Elektra) • Logan Mize (Sony) • Ryan Kinder (Warner Bros.) • Danielle Bradbery (BMLG) • Ashley Campbell (BMLG) • The Cadillac Three (BMLG) I think Mickey and Charlie are most likely, with Cassadee, LANco, Runaway June, and Levi all being strong possibilities as well. I decided to include Mo Pitney, Lindsay Ell, and Anderson East as well, since they were 3 of the 5 artists that Bobby Bones selected for his "most likely to breakout in 2016" list (the other 2 artists were...Maren Morris and Tucker Beathard). Neither Lindsay nor Mo would be on their debut single like Maren and Tucker were, though. And then there's Anderson East, Miranda Lambert's new boyfriend, who would probably need to get signed to an actual country label for country radio to support him. But who knows, maybe he's been in talks with some of the bigger Nashville-based labels?

Still nothing.
I imagine the next couple of weeks they'll announce the next OTV, which I can only see LANco getting it, or does somebody see another potential choice?

Seems like we should be getting a new iheart on the verge artist soon. Gossip? guesses? hopes? dreams?
I'm hoping for Candi Carpenter Burn the Bed (but not expecting it)

I don't have the best credentials to guess, but I think "Woke Up in Nashville" seems like a fairly plausible pick as far as new singles from relative unknowns goes.

I have a feeling that we will know which song will get the OTV treatment either this week or next.
I feel like it's going to be between: - "Act Like You Don't" | Brooke Eden - "Own It" | Bailey Bryan - "Woke Up in Nashville" | Seth Ennis - "What Ifs" | Kane Brown f/Lauren Alaina
I would really love for "Burn the Bed" to be the next pick but the whole situation with that song is really confusing.
Another song I would like to see getting the OTV is Midland's "Drinkin' Problem" but that adds date is really far away. Since January 6th, they have announced three new On the Verge artists (on other formats, including CHR), so I don't see why they would wait until almost March to give Midland's song the OTV push.
What do you guys think is going to happen?

I think Seth Ennis will be the next O.T.V. artist, out of the ones listed, I think radio will play him over the others.

There is currently a pop one (Julia Michaels), and none of those choices really inspire although I would love for it to be Brooke.
Seth is already off to a good enough start that I doubt he needs it.

I'd doubt that Brooke or Kane would get it, considering they mostly work with debut singles for OTV most times and the last OTV was Lauren Alaina who didn't fit that. I think out of those 4 Seth is the shoe-in, but I could see something else get picked up too: Ryan Follesse, Drake White (but maybe not considering my argument above), Morgan Wallen, Adam Craig, Midland could all be in contention too. However, my money is still on Seth.

Please, please, please be Seth Ennis. "Woke Up In Nashville" has grown on me so much and I'd loved nothing more than for that to be a hit.

What about William Michael Morgan? They did Craig Campbell w/ "Keep Those Kisses Coming" and at that point he had a Top 15 and Top 20 hit to his name, and two albums.
I'd love to see Missing get a big shot in the arm.

I'd love to see Missing get a big shot in the arm. I doubt it'll be William Michael Morgan as he already had a Top 5 hit that is still getting airplay. I know that Dustin Lynch got OTV a long time ago, but that was in the real early stages. I'd be stunned if William Michael Morgan got it.

I'm here for Carly Pearce or Russell Dickerson (though not sure if Russell's label/team can pull that off).

I don't see "Yours" (which is being promoted through newly formed Thirty Tigers Records) getting the "On The Verge" selection. It is a partnership with Sony Music but Thirty Tigers is handling promotion to radio. Ironically, a few days ago RadioTraks started a new survey, asking people to give opinions on "Yours." It should be impacting in March.

So this thread has been dead for a while
Since the last post in this thread, Lauren Alaina has hit #1 with her OTV selection, Carly Pearce was picked after Luke Combs for OTV, then Luke Combs hit #1 with his OTV song and then Devin Dawson was picked for this and finally Carly Pearce hit #1 with her song that was boosted with On the Verge.
Like I alluded to in the Danielle Bradbery "Sway" thread. I think the next OTV selection will be a female song. Lately OTV has alternated between male and female acts and no 2 OTV picks in a row have the same label, and no OTV acts had the album yet out. Since Devin Dawson was the last one, I think a female singer or act will be up next. Also I noticed that since 2016, there have been 3 OTV selections a year. The first one is real early in the year (Maren Morris and Luke Combs), the second one is anywhere from March to May (Tucker Beathard and Carly Pearce), while the final one is in the late summertime to early fall (Lauren Alaina and Devin Dawson).
Looking at the current singles on country radio that have a new female act. The only likely candidate seems to be Runaway June with "Wild West". Ashley McBryde shares the same label as Devin Dawson, Danielle Bradbery and Lindsay Ell have released albums already this year, and finally, Lauren Alaina, Cam, and Carly Pearce were already On The Verge recipients.
So come this January or February, I think Runaway June will be the next OTV selection.

I'd be thrilled for Runaway June! Think it may be a little too late for them, but who knows! Not a lot of options on the charts right now. We'll likely see some new artists launched early next year though

I do think it will be either Bradbery or Runaway June. A couple reasons. Like said above, it does seem they alternate between male and female. Those artists both qualify as well, of course.
It also seems to me that all the recent selections have been songs The Highway played or broke out first. Luke Combs, Carly Pearce, Devin Dawson were all played on Sirius before being picked. It almost seems like a battle for who can claim they "found" the artist.
With that in mind, The Highway did debut "Wild West" before it was sent to radio and they have been playing the crap out of "Sway."
If I had to pick, I'd say BMLG would be gunning for Runaway June, as Danielle has had a fair amount of success digitally with this album release already. As much as I would be happy with either, I'm also hoping for RJ.

I feel like it is going to be Bradbery....but not with Sway. With Worth It.
iHeartRadio wants to back someone with staying power, and as much as I like the Runaway June girls, I feel like Danielle fits more with the radio mold right now, and has a better shot longterm.
