These are the top 4 contenders I can see happening. 01. Clare Dunn - "Move On" 02. William Michael Morgan - "I Met A Girl" 03. Cassadee Pope - "I Am Invincible" 04. Lucy Angel - "Crazy Too" 05. Scotty McCreery - "Southern Belle"

Gosh, I hope it's not Clare Dunn's song because that's just such an awful song and it's far too loud. That would do nothing good for anybody.
"I Met a Girl" would be nice because it's very traditional. I already hear "I Love This Life" so damn much that I'd be mad if it was that one!
They could do us all a favor and pick Kacey Musgraves.

Not sure when we get the next "on the verge" but with the latest news with Mo Pitney is "Boy and Girl thing" a possibility?

You know, Scotty McCreery's new single was supposed to be released in early July. Got postponed with no explanation at all. Then they release a date. Then he announces they want to release it even earlier, on a Monday.
Maybe the same week the OTV pick is announced. Coincidence?

Both of the singles from McCreery's last album went top 10, so it would make no sense to pick him as the OTV - he's already a known quantity. The last several choices have all been straight up newcomers (someone with no hits), and i expect them to follow that course going forward. My guess would be Granger Smith or Waterloo Revival (not at all excited by that possibility), though there's a fair chance the selection hasn't even been announced as a single yet. Mo Pitney would be a dream scenario, but I just don't think Curb has the clout to pull that off at the moment. I also think it's unlikely they would pick two straight females for the program (eliminating quite a few worthy tomatoes), but that's pure speculation on my part.

As much as I'd like to see it, I just don't think they'll pick something so throwback neo-traditional, even if it is written by Sam Hunt. And if they were going down that route, Pitney seems like a more natural choice (though the Curb problem still exists).

I guess I'm hopeful because of what label Morgan's on, as well as their last selection, which was astounding. Now the immediate sales from the Bobby Bones Show certainly played a factor for "Burning House" to be selected but that song is literally the opposite of what country radio has liked to play the past few years. Unfortunately there are quite a few options I rather not see including "Bad For You", which is second on my "most likely to be the selected" odds. I just get sick to my stomach when I imagine having to hear that song in heavy rotation.

When might we get an official announcement regarding the new OTV artist?

I don't know when's the next announcement for the OTV artist. But I could see them choosing Lauren Alaina's new single "Next Boyfriend." The radio premiere is set to be Oct. 5th. She's not had much success on radio so she would definitely be in consideration.

I would love to see females back to back as on the verge artists

My guess is that BMLG is looking to see how the sales and reaction go to the song and decide on an add date then. If it doesn't go well, they can just scrap it and choose another song for radio. All we have is a song released to iTunes. A thread for a song really shouldn't be started if a song is just released to iTunes but it is what it is I guess.

Would they really give it to Cassadee if she has already had a top 10/platinum hit?

They already gave it to Dustin Lynch, even after "Cowboys & Angels" peaked at #2. However, since Sam Hunt, they've given the spot to newcomers making their first hit. So, Cassadee is probably low on the list at the moment.

What's taking so long for a new On the Verge artist to be announced? Last week was the first full week of the month, and it appears this week there still won't be a new OTV announcement. I'm definitely speculating Granger Smith to be the next choice, as his song already has 13 adds on the Mediabase panel even though it doesn't officially go for adds until October 5th, so maybe iHeartMedia decided to hold off until closer to the official impact date for "Backroad Song."

I think you just answered your own question. Since I'm pretty sure Granger's song is next, they might as well hold off until at least next week to get it closer to the October 5th add date. I think the reason the add date was out so far out is because of getting some ducks in a row on Wheelhouse Records end, not iHeartMedia.

Judging by the next songs in coming weeks to radio I believe granger smith, Lauren Alaina or Ashley gearing are the only options to get on the verge deal since I heart is taking long.

"I Love This Life" is too high and has been out too long to be selected. Plus they're on Reviver Records. I know the song is selling well but there is no need for the program with this single.

Granger Smith's "Backroad Song" who many think is in consideration for OTV just received 6 early adds today & already has 19 total. His official add date isn't until Oct. 5th. Previously, I remember Cam's "Burning House" receiving early adds, but I don't remember if it was a significant # of early adds. Does anybody remember if it's a usual thing for an OTV artist to get a good # of early adds? I'm wondering if it's a sign we should pay attention to in the future when we know an OTV needs to be picked soon.

"Burning House" got 7 adds (5 of them, iHeartMedia), three weeks before its add date, so yes, that seems to be the norm as iHeartMedia stations jump aboard before the official impact date. Same thing happened with "Buy Me A Boat." Every sign is pointing to "Backroad Song" -- all we need is official confirmation.

I've been thinking it'll be Granger as well, but lately (meaning today) I've had a couple of other thoughts, the first being that they don't have to have another OTV selection anytime soon if they don't want to. They had been picking a new one every 2 months, but I think they quit doing it for the Pop format (or at least they quit for a while) so who's to say that they won't quit for country radio?
The second thought is...what if it's Lee Brice's "That Don't Sound Like You"? I know the song got added at Westwood One last week and so it saw big increases because of that, but it had an absolutely huge update today that looks very much like an OTV-inflated gain. The "hole" in that theory, though, is that Lee just played at the iHeart Festival over the weekend and so I think he got a lot of spins from that. Obviously he's had big hits before and isn't a new artist, but I think there could be a chance that iHeartRadio will occasionally select a B-list artist whose single is off to a really slow start in order to cancel out that slow start.
My money is still on Granger, but I'll be watching Lee Brice's song this week. After all, he's well-liked by the folks at iHeartMedia, given that they selected him to play at their festival in Vegas.

I think it would be AWESome if any of the below 3 got the next OTV
Jon Pardi "Head Over Boots" : he's only had moderate success on the charts. UAN peaked at #11 I believe, and follow up singles just scraped by. He's got a good following and highly anticipated sophomore album. His EP sold surprisingly well too. I do think the adds he got were impressive, as are the itunes sales, But I don't want his sophomore album get delayed because this could only muster Top 25 peak. The genre needs him
Chris Stapleton "Fire Away" : Never had a Top 40 hit before, and right now has all the buzz with CMA Noms and potential future Grammy noms. Would love to see this happen, to at least get him on Top 20 radio. I think his album sales and downloads would boost with people discovering him.
Mo Pitney "Boy and A Girl Thing" : Personally, I think "Come Do A Little Life" should have been single #2. But I doubt Curb could pull this off. Ditto on genre needing him as well, country radio needs balance.
