I'll have to hear the song itself, but yeah, the lyrics sounds like sardonic, Brad-playing-against-type-and-being-sleazy humor to me. The way the chorus goes, I expect the "check you for ticks" line to be treated as a punchline after the previous three lines are treated as serious romantic lines. I'm intrigued.

This sounds funny as hell. He's always had that dry sense of humor.
BTW---> His son's name is William HUCKLEBERRY Paisley! LOL

Sounds funny as hell to me , And NOT a pretentious love song, which hes been prone to releasing lately. I cant wait to hear it!!! Hard to argue with that I guess. The actual beat/rhythm of it might sway me to liking it.

I heard the whole song on KMPS just now. It is hilarious and upbeat. People love it. Reactions like they were laughing so hard they missed the last half of song. Couldn't wait to see the video. I say he has another hit.

I say he has another hit. I would be surprised if this song doesn't sail into the top 3. With all the huge artists in the top 10 or just outside of the top 10 right now (Keith, George, Kenny, Carrie, Tim, Toby, Rascal Flatts), Brad has a huge advantage. He might have to compete with new singles from George and Rodney, but he still has the advantage of this song being a lead single.

I agree with Rowdawg, unless this comes off the way Alcohol did and doesn't get widespread acclaim. The timing is sure right -- it was played on my local station yesterday, so it's bound to debut on the chart this coming week and move into the top 30 as early as next week -- giving it the jump on George and Rodney.

I heard it on WKHX this morning. It's typical Brad Paisley, with clever lyrics and great guitar work.
However, I wonder about the hook and title. I'd rather search for tatt's. Finding ticks sounds a little gross. I know there's a line about going to the backwoods, but that could be easily fixed. When I heard the title, I pictured clocks, pillow cases, check marks, credits, facial expressions, or being annoyed.
As this screams up the charts, it will attest to the fact that the title and hook are irrelevant on superstar product.

Wow! Now that is one of the weirdest song titles I have ever heard. This will be very interesting indeed.
As someone said though, he will have an advantage because of all the big name artists that are high up on the charts now.

I betcha this one flames out faster than Toby's "Honkytonk U" did. :o Why do you say that? I think Brad has now (or is on the verge) reached superstar status and anything he does will fly up the charts. And I mean, UP the charts, to the top spot. (Honkytonk U didn't go #1, this will)

I just think that the premise of "Ticks" is too hokey to stay around that long, Brad Paisley or not.

Hukleberry is apparently in reference to Hukleberry Flynn, the 'spirit of adventure'.

It's an all right song, but the "search you for ticks" line just bugs me. (No pun intended.)
This is definitely a little too over the top to reach #1.

I don't think it's "too over the top" to get to #1. I'm not saying it will get there but I'd put the odds at over 50%. I'm really surprised so many people here don't like this, but I guess it isn't for everybody. The "search you for ticks" line is supposed to be funny, and it's not meant to be taken seriously at all in my opinion.

I wasn't taking it seriously...I just think there could have been WAY better writing. Sounds too elementary.

I really thought I'd hate this based on the title. But after listening to the lyrics, it's actually pretty creative. I like it.

I love Brad but this song is just average and it sounds musically similar to alot of his other stuff.

I love Brad and I like this, but I agree, he HAS had some better songs/singles. This one is very good, though, and I'm sure the new album will not disappoint
In fact, I like this more than 'Alcohol', which was the lead single from Time Well Wasted. Never did really get into that one.

Eh, I had higher expectations for this song. Did nothing for me on the first listen. Maybe it will grow on me and then I will like it until radio shoves it down my throat...
