Don't like it quite as much as "Prayers/Triangles", but quite a few Deftones songs are like that with me, and I fall in love with them over time. I assume that will be the case with "Doomed User", too.

"Doomed User" sounds like old school Deftones. Nothing against "Prayers/Triangles," which is also very good, but I like it even better.

Really? I'm getting a very 'SNW' vibe from Doomed User Really? I wish I got more of a SNW vibe from it as that's my favorite Deftones album (along with Koi No Yokan) but this sounds like something off the first half of Diamond Eyes IMO. The riff is very similar to the riffs in the first 3 songs in particular.

Kind of reminds me of 'Rapture' meets 'CMND/CTRL'

Kind of reminds me of 'Rapture' meets 'CMND/CTRL' I hear those songs, plus some "Royal" in terms of its vocals and overall vibe. The riff sounds a bit like the Royal one, along with the Rapture and CMDCTRL one, but it's notably more minor scale then any of those. Now that I listen again I also think this sounds very "White Pony," just like Prayers/Triangles. Wouldn't mind a return to that but I don't think it's their magnum opus as many fans seem to. It's a good album but they have definitely evolved as a band since then.

"Doomed User" is not really for me. I hope "Prayers/Triangles" isn't completely dead?

Good thing we waited to do the Top 10 for Deftones cause that has a very legitimate chance of making the list.

"Phantom Bride", "Acid Hologram" or "Hearts / Wires" for second single please. Overall very solid album. Not as good as Diamond Eyes, but not many albums will ever be.

Album is now #2 on iTunes, behind The Lumineers. If they can keep up the pace, they'll hit the top 10 on the album sales chart (something which Koi No Yokan didn't do probably due to its release date whereby it had to compete with Christmas albums)

The fact that The Lumineers are outselling Deftones right now sums up everything wrong with music in 2016.

So, I sat down and listened to Gore. On first listen...yeah, I love it. BIG SHOCK THERE.
"Hearts/Wires", as I've already said, is song of the year material, and you already know my feelings on "Prayers/Triangles". What wasn't being talked about before the release of the album is the last four tracks on the album, particularly the title track. MAN, those four tracks kill. One of the best stretches of songs Deftones has ever put onto an album. It's probably not one of my three favorite albums of theirs or anything, but it's also very likely going to be my favorite album of the year, barring a minor miracle.

I like my songs to be fast-paced/heavy, or at the very least have some sort of edge to them.

I like my songs to be fast-paced/heavy, or at the very least have some sort of edge to them. There is on occasion where some slow ballad becomes my jam, but I'm with you, man. I usually need energy in my music to keep me interested. The Lumineers are great at putting me to sleep whenever I hear them. Oh yeah. The new Deftones album is freaking awesome. I'm hoping for "Xenon" for the next single.

I've listened to Gore about ten times so far and what can I say. It's incredible when a band can be around for so many years and continue to expand and evolve their sound and stay incredibly consistent and constantly release "greatest-of-all-time" level material. The album is beautiful aggression, with many flourishes that allow it to transcend the typical Deftones formula. It's still quintessential Deftones though, many times on this record they do something unexpected and it works. Their mastery of texture and dynamics continue to show throughout their work and this is once again album of the year material(Sorry, Life of deleted!). Highlights of the record are as I said earlier "Hearts/Wires" and "Phantom Bride" both of which I hope become singles in the future

Well I listened to the album last night and I'm sorry to be somewhat negative but...it was kind of disappointing. Maybe it's just because it's hard to follow up an amazing album like Koi No Yokan but I wasn't super impressed. What it reminded me the most of was their self-titled, which is probably my least favorite album of theirs (besides Hexagram, that song is amazing). That being said I feel like most of my feelings are due to surprise as this album was somewhat left field -- particularly on some of the tracks at the beginning. Acid Hologram and Geometric Headdress are easily some of the weirdest songs in their entire discography, particularly in the production, which is super weird in a hard to describe way. That being said, it's already beginning to grow on me (I listened to some of the tracks a second time and liked pretty much all of them more then the first time), and as was said before, the final 3 tracks are killer. Phantom Bride seems like the logical next single, though there really doesn't seem to be that much radio-ready stuff of the album. Prayers/Triangles will probably go top 5, but I can't see them scoring 3 top 10 hits from the album like they did with KNY.
TL;DR: Not as good as Koi No Yokan, and a very bizzare, uncommercial album, but seems like a grower.

You think Acid Hologram and Geometric Headdress are some of the weirdest in their discog? They sound like quintessential Deftones to me, odd time signatures and all. (Can't be as weird as shit like Pink Cellphone)
I also think that the one-two punch of Hearts/Wires(radio edit the intro unfortunately) and Phantom Bride could give them another great run on radio like KNY. (Hell, I didn't even expect Romantic Dreams to go top 10 but there it was)

Album is now projected to debut with 55-60k (add 3k SPS). Slight drop from Koi No Yokan, but that's still a very respectable number in this day and age. The number is great considering 3 Doors Down debuted with 24k, Seether debuted with 37k and Three Days Grace debuted with 35k. It is also on par with Halestorm (52k), Godsmack (58k), Bring Me the Horizon (55k) and Rise Against (53k).

Looking at the charts now, I'd have to say the veterans are getting the job done and putting out the best songs. "King of the World", "The Sound of Silence", "Prayers/Triangles", "The Devil's Bleeding Crown", and "Circadian Rhythm" are all among the best songs out right now IMO. Doesn't mean that the newbies are making good music as well, but those aforementioned songs are pretty hard to beat.

Video feels pretty low budget, but at least they have a video I guess. I know this type of thing doesn't make much of an impact on radio charts, but I wonder if Tempest would have been able to go #1 had it had a video (it was soooo close).
