Apparantly "poppy" means melodic and catchy. I guess half of the Active Rock chart is now concidered "Poppy" "Deep Six" , "Coming For You" and "Dancing On Nails" all have "poppy" elements. hmmmm...No thanks. I'll stick to just keeping Rock and Pop in different catagories for now. Deep Six pop?

Daryl Not pop, but poppy elements. Anyway if one can say that the bridge to the chorus on "F**ked Up World" has poppy melodic element, then the same must be said for the bridge on "Deep Six" The way the guitars are played melodically is very similiar to the other. Anyway, I'm not the one to correct. I'm just using his example of what he hears in the song that sounds poppy. I don't hear it. At least not in this era. In 1988, when mainstream featured Def Leppard, White Lion, Warrant, Winger;ect.. I woulda agreed about Pretty Reckless being reffered to as "poppy", but not now. ...and don't forget Marylin' Manson's "Dope Show" also had Poppy elements, so he isn't completely exempt from Pop world. When I think of Popppy elemnets; I'm taking into concideration the Poppy sound on the charts at the moment. At the moment; Poppy to me is EMD duets feat some D.J. or Pitbull, your song being written by Ryan Tedder, or some 50s revival ballad style of Sam Smith, With the occasional folky/ Alt crossover, but there is nothing that even resembles The Pretty Reckless on the Pop charts now. Not even Nickelback and Hinder are charting on Pop anymore.

So this has a +401(!!!) bullet on Active right now which seems crazy to me, didn't realize that this song would have so much pull on the Rock charts. Is it a case of the song being in the right place at the right time with all of the top songs from a few months ago simultaneously losing spins, or is this really resonating with listeners?
I'm personally hoping it vaults over Follow Me Down before The Pretty Reckless can flip over The Offspring.
Also, I doubt it's going to happen seeing as Sam Hunt should top country in a few days, but Zac Brown Band being #1 on Active and Country Mediabase simultaneously would have been cool. Has that ever happened?

The JEKYLL + HYDE era has so far been successful for Zac Brown Band. Not only did they get a country #1 but will probably get a mainstream rock #1 too.

Oh, wow! How did I not notice this until now? Zac Brown Band doing rock and actually being successful with it? It's surprisingly very good! I hope to hear more of this sound from them.

I had a chance to see Zac Brown Band last night, and not only did they play this song, but they had some sick covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, Enter Sandman, Comfortably Numb, and Kashmir. I know they're a "country" act, but I honestly always have viewed them more as Southern Rock. I'll be curious to see if there's a second rock single from them off of this album.

I really hope there are more songs on the new album that lean more towards rock. This song kicks ass and I think Zac could do both and be successful.

I hope Alt picks this up. It's been stalled in the low 40s and it would be awesome if this could go top 20 there.

#1 and it still has the biggest spin increase on the chart today, damn. Wonder how long it will spend there. Meanwhile, Alt still isn't picking this up.

In this song's defense. It does sound better after repeated listens. the 70s vibe does work with Chris's vocals, but still not as uplifting as his Audioslave band. IDK, songs of this nature have a tendency to grow on me after a while. I'll keep it on the burner for now.

Damn this might actually be able to hold on to the top spot for awhile. Nothing is close to it and the only two that can hit the top at the moment is Breaking Benjamin (#4) and Three Days Grace (#9). Unless this starts to go down in the next week, I don't think Breaking Benjamin has what it takes to hit #1. Theory of a Deadman have a healthy bullet, but I can't imagine that hitting #1. Guessing this stays atop for a month.

That's a lot of covers for one show. Is that typical for them or are they trying to show they can "rock" this tour. I like a lot of the stuff this group does but I didn't like Heavy Is The Head. I just thought it was very generic.

I just thought it was very generic. Zac Brown Band typically do play a handful of cover songs in their shows. They have some roots in festival type shows and IMO have some Jam Band influences. They don't always play the same 20 song setlist, and they really try to mix it up by playing some random album tracks and covers.

The album can be streamed now on iTunes (will be available for sale at midnight). There aren't too many choices for a follow up on rock radio, but a radio edit of "Junkyard" would probably do decent on Active. I think "Bittersweet" could work too, as it gives off some serious classic rock vibes in it (not too much different than The Black Keys, only more Southern Rock).

I saw on another forum that the album strays away from Country; is it more rock sounding, or is it something else? I'm actually thinking about picking this up if it's got good enough rock-leaning songs like this one.

I'm actually thinking about picking this up if it's got good enough rock-leaning songs like this one. There's only a couple that sound rock infused like this one, probably 2 others songs, the ones I mentioned that could be singles. There's 2 songs that are more epic/Pop sounding, kind of like Zac Brown Band trying to mimic Coldplay. There's one song, "Mango Tree", that sounds flat out like Frank Sinatra. Then they have 5-6 songs that lean a little on country side IMO, but still have some reggae type influences and a bunch of other genres. The album is pretty all over the place musically. It doesn't sound as disorganized as I'm describing it, but it's really hard to put into words what it exactly sounds like. My best recommendation would be to either stream it on Spotify first or listen to the previews on iTunes.

I agree with "Junkyard" being a fair shot for a rock single, but I don't know about "Bittersweet". It takes a little too long to get going, unless a radio edit is made that cuts the slower part of the song in half.

If they promote something else to rock radio, it should be Junkyard.

Looks like it will get one more week in before Breaking Benjamin takes over.

Looks like it will get one more week in before Breaking Benjamin takes over. This could be its last week, actually - "Failure" is only 23 spins away from this song on Active, and by the end of the week it'll probably have a large enough spin difference that Heritage won't really matter.

I heard this today and had to turn it. I just do not like country acts crossing over. Country is as bad as pop now and also I never listen to those genres and country's bro theme has basically broken a little too many barriers. I know ZBB is not bro country and complained about it, which leads me to believe they did something like this because of that fact.
