This entire thread is what is most comical about our forum IMO. People keep saying things like "why is alt playing this?", "No one seems to like it, its success makes no sense", "Why isn't alt dropping this, no one likes it anymore", etc. What most of this board fails to realize though is that this board doesn't accurately represent the average, general, easy-to-please alt listener. We are enthusiasts who lean to very specific sub genres and due to the tenure of much of the community, people lean towards liking the last few eras more than what's new. Our tastes have been tailored to what used to be on alternative radio. Therefore, we representalmost NONE of the alt listener base, most of which really enjoys songs such as this one. On that note, can anyone remember the last time a format changed direction so drastically so quickly? I think CHR changed really drastically around 2009 or 2010 (can't remember) - one year Daughtry went Top 10 and Nickelback came close, and then the next nothing like that could even break Top 40
Alternative had to change in 2011 BTW - they were losing station after station, and people in radio were calling the format a joke

the reason alt stations are hanging on forever to these big hits that cross over is PPM. to win in the PPM world, you need familiar records that listeners will keep listeners on the dial.

seriously? that's a reason why stations hold onto songs? shouldn't they want to move onto the next "alternative" single since the new one is so popular on pop radio? that's f**ked up. I know, right? There are still Alt stations that drop songs when pop picks them up, but the majority of them now do exactly the opposite - hold on to them so they don't lose women to CHR or Hot AC
What stations? Can I get them on Tune-In? Its getting to a point I may have to add Pandora and clog up some of my MBs.

I feel like the demographic for Alt these days is a lot more poppier-leaning than it was a few years ago. People who like the songs played on the format like Renegades, Riptide, Milky Dance etc are also into EDM, rap, pop, which includes more female listeners as well, that don't call Alt their home genre, but enjoy it as much as others. That is perhaps the catalyst for the change, and it's also a bit weird to think about.

Try WWCD/Columbus OH, WEQX/Albany NY, KKDO/Sacramento CA, or KRXP/Colorado Springs CO

I wouldn't say it's sad; it's a good thing alternative is spreading to the masses, what is sad is that it took a severe change of the format for it to happen.

I said sad, because it's the not so Alternative songs that are spreading to the masses. Those songs are more AAA to my ears. I'd rather have "Ship To Wreck", "Ground Walks' "Could Have Been Be" "Dreams" etc..be the ones spreading the word, but that's my opinion.

I wouldn't say it's sad. More people are more open minded about the music they listen to that the boundaries of genres are blurring. It's been happening for a while now and only now is radio catching up, hence the blurring of radio formats. I'm wondering if it'll reach a point where radio formats will be segmented only by age demographic instead of music genres, with your obvious leaning toward either rock, country or rap, of course.

So diverging from the music melting pot conversation, this song could retake #1 Mediabase as early as tomorrow if the trajectories continue. It just re-passed CWK for #2 today.
1 1 ELLE KING Ex's and Oh's 2762 2906 -144 12.122 3 2 X AMBASSADORS Renegades 2737 2719 +18 13.194 2 3 COLD WAR KIDS First 2727 2844 -117 11.291
It's a while before I Am will catch up to the Top 3, so Renegades might get another week or two in at #1.

91x hasn't played this all day. True story. I wonder if there are other alt stations that hold off as long as they can to play this new hybred of Alt/AAA? Still no "Ex's and Oh's. They dropped Halsey. No Coleman Head either. They play S.O.B alot. Anyway, are your guys Alt stations playing that "Renegades" song that much, that it deserves a jump back to #2? Just wondering?
