I'm sorry but I need to get this out there: It's kinda funny how Urban Pop artists are becoming more ratchet/non-Pop. First Beyonce, now Rihanna seems to be following in that trend. Neither are "Pop" anymore, or at least Rihanna hasn't released anything new to lead us to believe she'll be following in Pop music footsteps. I blame Jay Z and Kanye, who seem to be trying to turn the tide of Urban music. I don't know but I just don't like it, as if they're trying to suddenly push Urban culture onto people and make it mainstream. It definitely seems to be a new trend. This is a really strange post, and fairly offensive, as well. I keep trying to break it down and I'm just left with...what? What is there to "blame" about Jay Z and Kanye lending some urban credentials and (often times) creative genius to artists looking to flourish and expand in that genre? And the line "as if they're suddenly trying to push Urban culture onto people and make it mainstream" has about 13 things wrong with it. There's nothing sudden about Urban music (I'll get to the "culture" umbrella in a second)--it was actually the go-to pop sound just about a decade ago, and it got phased out with the dance pop wave. Also, music does not equal culture, and saying that makes me think in your head, pop = white and urban = black, and that becomes awfully problematic. BUT I won't crucify you for that because that is, technically, me making assumptions. But besides that, how are they pushing this onto you? With the boom of digital music and streaming, it has literally never been easier to ignore radio. Case in point: I had never heard "Trap Queen" until actual seconds ago (another song you're appalled at getting played on Pop stations). Much like those who whine that gay marriage and gay characters on TV are pushing the gay lifestyle down the throats of poor unsuspecting hetero citizens--if it bothers you, simply don't engage, but it's not your place to regulate something simply based on your personal taste and preferences. Anyway, I can't decide if I like this song or not. I have a feeling my sober self leans toward no, but when my drunk self encounters this song I will believe myself to be a far better dancer than I actually am.

3,3 million views already! The Jimmy Kimmel video won't count towards the Hot 100 though, correct? I don't think it will. Apparently one of the criterion is that it has to be under the category "music" on youtube, but this one is under "comedy". The official audio may play for more than 30 seconds, though (didn't keep track of that myself).

I'm crossing my fingers that this song somehow goes viral. You mean like a nasty infection? Seems appropriate.

If the category is the sole determinant this is a total waste of streams. Billboard's rule on this is so stupidly arbitrary. Harlem Shake counts, but not this?

Billboard is reporting about this too. There are tons of rap songs named BITCH BETTER HAVE MY MONEY, with the same phase repeating on the chorus. No big deal. I think billboard and other people are making a big deal out of it.

If the category is the sole determinant this is a total waste of streams. Billboard's rule on this is so stupidly arbitrary. Harlem Shake counts, but not this? I've been annoyed with this too (most recently because of "Trouble" not counting), but I found the following response from Billboard quoted in another thread: Billboard is only able to include YouTube views in chart calculations for songs that are properly registered by the video clip content owner, claimed by a licensed representative of the song being used in the clip, or identified by YouTube's content ID system. This also includes user-generated videos utilizing official song audio.
Due to superseding licensing agreements between the video clip content owner and song owner, or the song owner and YouTube, views of certain clips that feature song audio might not be counted.
In regards to the two songs you mention, the licensing agreements most likely differed, leading to data from only one of the titles making its way from YouTube to Billboard.I don't completely understand every aspect of this, but what I get is that Billboard isn't picking and choosing what gets to count - only certain data is being sent to them, and that's out of their control. So with "Trouble", as I mentioned earlier, it probably wasn't a matter of someone at BB going "Nah, we're not includung those streams" - they simply didn't have the figures from Facebook to incorporate into the chart. Kind of like when certain retailers wouldn't report their album sales to Soundscan.

Billboard is reporting about this too. Does anyone know if Marvin Gaye has a song similar to this? Doesn't have to exact at all, just a few phrases. Hope Nona is on it.

This is so much fun, probably my favorite single from her since Birthday Cake! Becky Housewives can stay crying in their kitchen to Stay, their husbands will find better substitutes with this playing in the background.
THIS is what should have constituted a big part of Rated R rather than those turgid ballads if she wanted to make that convincing, but then again I don't know if she could have delivered it as well then. Either way, I'm glad she's chosen this path to explore now.

This is more for the Urban market, but that doesn't matter. Anything can be a hit at chr/pop. The only problem is that it isn't a good track, regardless of what sound it leans towards. I can't find a hook in the song.

This might be rihanna's first failed attempt at a #1 single from a new album...I pretty sure this song isn't going too the top of the Hot 100...and any new released single after this would be a little over exposure....she better call slim shady fast.

yeah i hope she doesn't go to #1 with any of the singles from this album, maybe that will teach her a lesson (of course I'm saying if all of them are pure Urban only). I'm craving for a Pop Rihanna song and i definitely want a pop song from her to go #1.

she's just gonna do what she alwasy do and release a million singles until one catches on. Then she'll release 6 more to capitalize on the success of it. She'll be fine.

Yes, that will teach her not to release music she wants to release. How dare she not give you all a pop single.

It's just she's a pop star through and through and while she's dabbled in lots of genres, I don't want to think of a Rihanna who stops making pop music altogether. It's like if Madonna or Britney had done that. Would just be wrong. I think some people here are just nervous there won't be any real pop songs on the album cause everything we've heard so far has been so removed from that. But I have faith she's still got some pop up her sleeve this era.

she's obviously saving the pop song for when the album comes out. For album sales.
