Why wouldn't they?
The chart is supposed to record songs played on AC stations. If AC stations are playing Christmas music, then that should go down on the chart.

Exactly... BB's AC chart follows the same policy as their other charts regarding Christmas songs (basically, a Christmas song can chart once - which usually means its first season of release - after which it's only eligible for the recurrent chart). If you don't like seeing the AC chart overrun with Christmas songs for a few weeks, blame it on AC radio for being the format that plays them the most.

I agree there should be a chart for them, but I really think they should have a separate "seasonal" chart for Christmas songs as it messes with the continuity of the chart... As a result of allowing Christmas songs to chart, the songs that are truly hits at the format have irregular chart runs, which needless to say is kind of annoying when studying chart history st the format... R&R on the other hand didn't allow the Christmas songs to chart...

R&R did have a holiday chart during the Christmas season. Not sure whether they'll be doing this anymore or not. We'll have to wait and see.

That's how songs like The Christmas Shoes and Believe made the R&R AC Chart.

Yep... all R&R did that was different from Billboard was temporarily remove the All-Christmas stations from the panel. There was no actual "ban" of holiday songs from the chart.

Right... this I have no problem with... if a song is legitimately a hit from a station on "normal" format I have no problem with them charting...

I think it's really a part of the chart-run process though, when it comes to studying it. I would normally agree with you about the interuptions and stuff but when you think about it, it really is just another normal part of the chart, just like airplay decreases on holiday weekends and other things.

Billboard changed their xmas policy about 2 or 3 years ago. I remember country songs were eligible to chart multiple times until they hit 20 weeks. Vince Vance charted 5x at 4 weeks each, the following year the rule went into effect! However, AC stations must've only started playing all Xmas about 4 years ago, otherwise we'd have seen the entire chart full of xmas music...... AS far as seeing an all format xmas chart, the week of xmas and after in BB, look at the recurrent chart...most of it will be xmas and rap music left.

I prefer R&R's policy of allowing Christmas songs only from stations that did not go all Christmas, so these seasonal songs had to compete with the other currents on the chart. If they make it, it was usually during December and they would drop off afterwards.
As long as each Christmas song can only chart during its first season, I'm okay with it.
