I know I give $h!t to Atlas Genius, but when you compare the two as far as "cutting edge", it's laughable
Really don't understand how one is more cutting-edge than the other - Don't Wait Up has odd/experimental sound effects in it, and it's darker, I guess - Molecules has much more cutting-edge lyrics, while Don't Wait Up has lyrics that sound like they could've been written by A Flock Of Seagulls

Any song that is compared to Real Life or Flock of Seagulls; is epic in my book.

Long Way down has been dancing along the bottom of the HotAC top 50 for awhile...but this song seems like a better fit for that format

Top 20 on Alternative: 22 20 ROBERT DELONG Don't Wait Up 833 759 74 1.914 This seems the norm nowadays. Songs climbing up like a step ladder. The great news is; Halsey went down. You forgot to post that.

The chart is so crowded, almost every song gets stuck when it hits the 20s bc it has to wait its turn for stations to have enough room in medium rotation

19 20 ROBERT DELONG Don't Wait Up 917 961 -44 2.385 -23 Spins Done? I'd hate to think this is because the intro is kinda long? People now a days are too impatient.

Renegades had a slightly longer intro and that went no. 1. And even if the intro is too long, there's always this thing called "radio edit".

He doesn't start singing untill almost a minute into the song. That's the one I listen to. That "Renegades" song is a bad comparison, cuz it's basically the same melody from start to finish and gets the listener pumped from the intro, if that's the kind of style the listener likes? Where as "Don't Wait Up" ;calls for a little bit of patience, as the song builds up to actual pump, which is where Robert starts singing. The truth is, I see no reason for this to go down, after "Long Way Down" did so well?

Still don't see anything that special about this song - lyrics IMO are pretty generic, and not really about anything interesting

Yeah my version is also the 4+ minute one, probably because I didn't buy it. It makes me skip the song sometimes because I'm too lazy to either fast forward that part or sit through it. I think the radio edit is even shorter than the 3:55 album version. Surprised this underperformed considering I find this miles better than "Long Way Down" and that somehow approached the #1 spot.

^Breaking Benjamin's lyrics to me are really authentic and filled with emotion - Disturbed, Chevelle, Avenged Sevenfold, etc. IMO are lyrically generic

I would say that Chevelle are less generic than all aforementioned bands. The riffs are always slightly experimental and the amount of distortion and variety in their music makes them more unique. I also think their lyrics are cryptic at times and appear simple and nonsensical at first, but when you dwell on them it actually comes together.
I would argue that early Breaking Benjamin were more unique than today's BB. They seem to stick to a formula of some sort for their songs, and have ever since Phobia in my opinion. The same argument for A7X; Nightmare was interesting at times but was overall quite generic compared to their earlier work, and Hail to the King was a straight-up Metallica tribute.
