Honestly, to me the Storyteller era felt massively underwhelming. A lot of the songs on the album are good, but few of them stood out as compared to some of her previous work. This is not helped by the single choices or the fact that all 4 videos were not as good as she could deliver, in varying degrees, with the travesty being that concert video for Church Bells.
Carrie Underwood has a lot of potential and at times it feels like she's settling? Maybe it's not the case, but that's what I get with single choices, videos, among other things. I hope the new label changes that.

Definitely not settling. If anything, I feel like she was just succumbing to the fact that she had to roll with the punches for Storyteller because A) it was her last album on her contract, B) she ended up leaving Sony [and Sony likely knew that mid-era, for sure, which could explain the super low-budget DL video, EOTY losses, sudden plummet in hype post-CMAs, and shelving of the tour DVD], and C) it was the first major album release for Sony's new CEO. Combine all of that and tie it together with the fact that Arista Nashville's radio team continued to drop the ball when it counted most during her single runs at radio, and that honestly explains everything.
If she was settling, she wouldn't have made a conscious effort to expand her international presence in Europe and Australia this past year, she wouldn't have put on such an elaborate show, and she wouldn't have signed a new deal with UMG that had the press release + news outlets emphasize the word "worldwide" in the headline + details of the announcement.
Also, she was/is likely more than well aware of the mistreatment of her singles during the past few eras (most namely during Play On, Storyteller, and stopping Blown Away at "See You Again"). I can't imagine she just sat there idly for 10+ years and saw/heard millions of fans constantly press her to release things like "Wine After Whiskey," "Choctaw County Affair," the good songs from PO, etc. Sony + her radio team likely had their minds made up upon the album's release. Here's hoping she has more freedom and way, way more say in what the hell she wants to get done with her albums -- especially as UMG Nashville's newest flagship artist.
ETA: Also, does anyone else get the sense that everyone on Music Row could kind of tell that she was being held back from absolutely exploding even more than she always could have? This newest deal + its wording makes me get a better sense of why Scott Borchetta was always so gung-ho over her, saying how if he could sign one major act today, it'd be her.

Showed up at Luke Bryan's Bridgestone Arena show in Nashville for the opening date of his summer tour. Sang "Play it Again" and "I Told You So."

If there's a collab, it better be on Luke's album. I'd much rather have Carrie skyrocket the quality of his album than Luke drag down the quality of hers

Luke Bryan is so hit-or-miss (and usually miss) for me. If she's going to duet, I hope it's someone else.

She's only ever had one full fledged collaboration on an album - so I kinda hope she has one on hers this time. Doesn't have to be Luke, but at this point considering they're now label-mates and her appearance at his show, I wouldn't be surprised if it was him. It would probably be a massive hit - if released as a single, and there's a chance it could be really good - he's one of the better male vocalists in the genre these days, in my opinion.

I want an emotional duet with Chris Stapleton.
I'd also be interested in a stadium-only Carrie/Luke world tour. But that's pretty far-fetched.

Here for a Stapleton collab.
Not here for any joint tours. Her last tour proved that she is simply better than any of her contemporaries on all fronts. Even if a couple of 'em can outsell her in individual shows, I'd hate to see her powerhouse show be the opening act to a dude that literally stands there behind a mic stand for an hour and a half.

I think we'll end up getting a lead single come CMA time. How sure are you of that & is that how its usually gone for her single releases with her other albums? Not her best. Fell flat in a few spots. The announcer's voice cracking in the middle of introducing her name is literally all of us tho. What do you mean not her best?I thought it was one of the best versions of the NA that she's ever done!!In a building like Bridgestone,to get that tone and pitch close to perfect as she possibly can is mindblowing!!She sang the way it was meant to be sung without any unnecessary bells and whistles & I thought it was gorgeous!!How you could even think that her version of the national anthem was flat in a few places is hogwash!!I don't know what you were listening to,but that was far from flat!! It's true that the Storyteller tour was simply better than any of her contemporaries because her talent & her powerhouse voice could entertain all of us for hours & we would still never get tired of hearing her sing because she is just that good on all fronts!!She covered every inch of that stage & people were still able to get a good view of her no matter where they were sitting!!The lights, the costume changes, pyro, the freakin jukebox she came up on and her vocals were just out of this world!!It has stuck with me for so long because it was just that amazing & mindblowing!!Luke must not be too bad of a singer if he's selling out arena shows almost every night he's on tour!!That Play it again duet & I told you so showed that when they trade verses on a song,it doesn't turn out too badly. The timing would have to be right for a joint tour with a male artist & the person would have to mesh with her personality & her talent for it to really work. Carrie, Shania, Kelsea Ballerini all releasing albums this fall. Can't wait! How much of a guarantee is it that she'll actually release a new album this year or is it truly speculation at this point?A new single I can see,but a new album? It just seems to me,a bit farfetched when she just mentioned starting songwriting not that long ago.

Carrieufan34 - This is a discussion thread, not a I-have-to-love-everything-Carrie-does fan thread. Calm down, people are allowed to not love everything she does or sings.

I haven't been reading the past few pages closely to understand--is it likely she's releasing a new album this Fall? Somehow I've been assuming the next album probably wouldn't come until next year. Of course, I guess she's probably excited to be on a new (better) label and wants to move on with the next album ASAP.

Not too sure about a new album, as she's just recently starting writing and registering titles. But, a lead single come fall/winter isn't entirely out of the question.

With all the talk about the Idol revival and The Voice, I'm so glad Carrie has so far stayed away. I personally don't want to see her in a judge/coach capacity on either show yet. Maybe 10 years or more down the road but not now when she's still in her superstar years and especially not when she's about to start an exciting new chapter in her career with UMG. Guest appearances and guest coaching I'm fine with but please not a regular gig as judge or coach! Resist the rumored high offers and rumored bidding war, Carrie!
Pure speculation: Late 2017 - new single 2018 - Album release 2018/2019 - Tour
She's gonna have another baby somewhere in there and her usual miscellaneous one-offs and some surprises. I'm all for it!

I don't think Carrie would ever go for being a judge - I'm not worried at all about that. It'd be cool to see her as a coach on "The Voice" as that's less of a judge role and more of a mentor role, but I don't think it'll ever happen; on either show.

I don't think we're getting a new single or album until 2018, guys. If something was coming this year, I'm pretty sure it would've been hyped in the UMG press release. I just can't see Carrie reverting back to the Carnival Ride / Play On recording schedule; she'll take her time, imo.
Also, she doesn't stand to gain anything from being a reality TV judge. She doesn't need the visibility or the check.

I don't see her accepting any judge position offers... that would call for her to be in LA for the majority of the year and I don't think that she's interested in that.

I expected to dislike this for a likely unnecessarily bombastic production value, since that's what RF has become known for with most of their ballads, but I actually dislike it because Gary LeVox legitimately sounds bored and completely uninterested in singing this. No emotional value to it whatsoever. It's just him showing that he can successfully complete vocal runs. Lemme go refresh myself with the original.

I had to wash my ears out after hearing that bland as white rice karaoke cover of Carrie's anthem. Who green-lit that mess?

Variety is reporting that she's had discussions with Idol producers about joining the judging panel. I'm so not interested in any of this. None of the judges on the voice need the visibility They do it out of the kindness of their hearts, I'm sure.

Could that violate her contract with SNF on NBC? Literally just digging for any reason to debunk this. Stop her, Dungan.

The only reason I think she'd even consider it is because she'd think of it as giving back to the show that launched her, but I can't see her ever committing to more than one season of it. I definitely wouldn't blame her for turning it down though and she doesn't need it.

Carrie, stop playing with my emotions and give me a Christmas album this October. Record some original songs, too. I've waited 12 years.
