I'd hardly say this is moving slow. What is your definition of slow then? Because after two months this isn't in the Top 50 yet, so... yeah, it's moving pretty slowly.

I think you have to take into account his label, Mercury Nashville. A lot of their artists usually have slow moving singles. Canaan Smith's current single "Hole In A Bottle" was released before Scotty's. His single went for adds Aug. 17th & it made Billboard Top 50 this week. Easton Corbin's "Yup" went for adds July 27th. It's currently at #43 on Billboard Country Airplay.

Granger Smith has a song called "5 More Minutes" about losing his Grandfather and what he'd say to him if he had "5 More Minutes" with him. Is it a cover of his song?

Granger Smith has a song called "5 More Minutes" about losing his Grandfather and what he'd say to him if he had "5 More Minutes" with him. Is it a cover of his song? No. According to an interview Scotty did with Billboard, here's some info about the song. “There is a song called ‘Five More Minutes,’ which is a favorite song,” he says. “I wrote it with Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell. It goes through life [from] that kid that mom’s yelling at for supper but he wants to play for five more minutes to that kid who has a girlfriend and is scared to kiss her and just wants five more minutes. It goes through life all the way ‘til the end of life and just wishing you had five more minutes to do this or that or say this or that.” www.billboard.com/articles/columns/country/6714568/scotty-mccreery-american-idol-ending-upcoming-album-southern-belle-single

This is Grangers www.youtube.com/watch?v=diKBY8mcvlM. What's really weird is Frank Rogers produced Granger's EP. Even though Granger's "5 More Minutes" isn't on the EP, he had to know the song existed. Would Frank had got Granger's permission to use the title and premise and then take the idea to Scotty to re-write it him together with Scotty's story? Is that a scenario that is common in Nashville songwriting? For what it's worth, Ashley Gearing who was on Curb awhile back has a "5 More Minutes" with the same premise too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9FnawIcTyoSo that makes 3 "5 More Minutes" songs in the last 5 years with the same premise but it's interesting Frank Rogers is connected to 2 of them. I guess it comes down to titles & ideas can't be copywrited and with so many songwriters in town, there have to be some overlapping ideas.

The song is #48 on tonight's Billboard. Yet it's still crickets on Mediabase. Who cares, Billboard is better anyway...in my opinion!

"Southern Belle" is at #52 on Mediabase this week, with 3 new adds. Scott's song only gained 200k in Billboard audience this week and gained 1 total spin on the airplay chart, so it isn't exactly on fire. It's having a very typical, slowish climb right now.

So many songs are going slow. Remember, as well as Scotty has sold, he's no 'superstar' so it's always a harder tree to climb. Not unlike Canaan or Billy Currington at his label and other artists who are in similar boats. It just takes time.

Southern Belle will show up on the Mediabase official chart at 50 tonight. It had dropped back off the list a couple days ago, but with Chase Rice going recurrent, it's back to 50 and will make its first appearance on the official chart.

Who knew what kind of doors it might open for a sixteen-year-old from Garner, North Carolina. Go Big or Go Home is the story of a kid with country songs in his soul. The special thing with Scotty McCreery, however, is that he has this God-given ability to sing those tunes the exact way they should be sung. Daring to enter the limelight at such a young age, Scotty finds himself embraced by the nation, and even overseas, as he competes on "American Idol". This is his journey from his North Carolina roots to winning America’s most popular singing competition and launching a musical career he had always dreamt about. Go Big or Go Home narrates Scotty's journey from a kid imitating Elvis on the school bus to 30 million across America tuning in to see him win Season 10 of "American Idol”. Now as he completes his ground-breaking fourth album, Scotty shares a glimpse of where he came from and the impact his faith, family and friends have had on a humbled guy who keeps asking “why me?”

What a disappointing music video. Practically the exact opposite conceptually of what I was hoping for. I have no idea whose idea it was to just film a bunch of cheerleaders and band members in a dark room, but that concept made no sense to me and it was just came off very boring and low-budget. I was expecting some nice country visuals to match the lyrics and instead we got a guy in a dark room with some cheerleaders. Definitely one of the weaker music videos I've seen in awhile. Still love the song though, but damn that video was a huge letdown.

That might be the most boring music video I've seen in the past two or three years. Can't believe they went with that weak treatment.

www.savingcountrymusic.com/scotty-mccreerys-southern-belle-just-wont-dieLittle piece from the link above, "Scotty is out in front of it trying to play spin doctor. He said he didn’t want the girls in the video to be “eye candy,” and says, “Obviously they’re pretty and everything, which is awesome, but it’s showcasing how strong they are.” Oh come on Scotty, if you’re going to release a booty shaker, and least freaking own it. Are you really trying to say this video is complimentary to these girls’ “strength”?" I kinda enjoy the song now (and its bobbing in and out of mediabase's top 50 so hopefully it'll pick up some steam) but i agree with the quote above. This video has absolutely nothing to do with the actual song. Personally I do not expect half naked girls from any music videos from scotty because well it's scotty (dude is vanilla) but I did expect something to go with the song. I do not think (or can't remember) seeing any lyric video that actually contained a person but the lyric video but for southern belle ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJtH0Ek9m7w ) they had a girl driving around on her farm shooting things and i genuinely thought it was a glimpse into what the music video was going to be. To be frank the lyric video is better than the actual music video.

That article is disgusting. Anyone who relates that one line to oral sex is a sick pervert in the head.
I actually liked the lyric video better myself if i had to choose between the 2.

I still don't consider it to mean that i just think its some thrown in nonsense lyric.

I wish we could just go ahead and put an embargo on Saving Country Music. Seriously nothing about that site is credible and it continues to get posted on this forum as if it's some sort of reputable review site.

Seriously nothing about that site is credible and it continues to get posted on this forum as if it's some sort of reputable review site. It's a nice site if you're looking for music from the independent country scene. That and Country Perspective are great sites to find stuff outside of the Mainstream and even in the Americana realm. I do admit Trigger could write better a lot better. But at least he does like some mainstream country music so it's not all negative reviews on that side of the spectrum. But Saving Country Music and Country Perspective are great to discover music outside of the mainstream.
