Does anyone else hear the similarities between this and this song? Maybe not the best video but: youtu.be/ZUQ2nC3De8E

Yeah, I'm not really sure what's going on with this. Either it's not gonna be the single, or it's not getting full promotion from the label. I mean, I know Jennifer didn't have much success with the singles from her last album, but she's still a big name on a major label...and even newbies on major labels routinely score 25-30 adds on impact day.
I'm confident that Nettles would score at least that many (25-30) first week adds with any song she might release, assuming that it's a full-promoted single (by UMG). So I think that this will either get a different adds date, or the label will switch to a different single (to be released sometime within the next few weeks).

Per today's Country Aircheck, Jennifer and UMG Nashville have parted ways. Sugarland is still on the roster.

Yeah, we now know why this one was pulled. She parted ways with UMG Nashville (as a solo act, Sugarland are still Mercury artists).

Oh wow, that is shocking to me. Wonder if she'll do an indie label or another major label. She was pretty close to being done with the album and just did a video for Sugar. I would assume she'd buy out what she recorded for the new album. She/Sugarland always did things a little differently. They'd pay out of pocket for their albums then would be reimbursed by the label according to what Kristian said the one time years ago.

Yeah, talk about a shocker. I mean, they had just released the single, they had filmed the video, they announced that EMI would promote it instead of Mercury (because Mercury had too many artists with current singles, whereas EMI only has Alan Jackson, Eric Church, and Brothers Osborne right now). I knew something was up when this only got 1 add last week, but I didn't see this coming.
If I had to guess, I'm thinking that maybe the material Jennifer wanted on her album isn't the sound that UMG wanted from her, or maybe "Sugar" didn't get good feedback from radio the last couple of weeks, and UMG told that to Jennifer and then she decided to ask out of her contract? I don't know. Definitely a surprising turn of events here, though.
Also, the way that Country Aircheck stated it (that UMG retains the rights to Sugarland) doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement of the duo.

Wow. I'm completely shocked by this news. Really couldn't have seemed like more unusual timing for this to have happened. Will be interested to see where she goes from here and what's next for her & her music. I did really like this song so it's a shame that it's release could now be scrapped.

By the way, did anyone notice this tweet from Jennifer right before the news broke about her split from the label? Can't help but to think this was directed at that. I assumed at first it was more about her brother being home after being deployed with the air force. The last post really of her own that wasn't a tweet at friends (sara bareilles and bobby bones) was about her brother's homecoming. But the more I thought about it last night and this morning, it feels like it was directed at her split with the label. If that is the case, I'm glad she's feeling good about it all and is happy.
I tend to think she'll be able to take her new music with her, I don't think she'd leave it all behind. If she does will this single be included or will it stay with UMG? I mean for rights and all, if that makes sense. I know LBB when she left/was dropped UMG she took everything even the song that was released/pulled early on. I have to really wonder if that will happen with Jen, I honestly hope so. I'm dying to hear all the songs she wrong with Brandy, Shane, Jessie and Lori McKenna.

Jenn would have to buy the album from UMG and buy the licensing fee for "Sugar", if she wishes to still have that single. You would know better than I do what she wants for her immediate future though but I'm sure she has the desire to pay the fee to bring her album with her.

I would think she would but who knows. She's been writing for over a year with Brandy it feels like, she started last year on tour. I just don't see her as being the type to just leave the album and work she recorded so far behind. She always has a lot going on. She made it seem music was front runner right now with all these plans of the album being out in the fall and a tour to follow. But all this happening is making me wonder what truly is the frontrunner for her. Will she try and go back to do some broadway again or do some more acting since she filmed some for a period drama show that premieres next year? I don't see her slowing down, she never really has even when she was pregnant or shortly after she had her son. It's just so odd to me but I get why she might have left? Your guess is as good as mine with what she does. She definitely has options to choose from be it music, design (clothing/jewelry/etc), acting, broadway and anything else she wishes to do.
I'll add a quick apology about all the questions. I'm still in a little shock about this all happening. One minute she is talking all these plans, making a video and promoting her new song the next she splits from the label and the single gets pulled. It's just a lot to digest as a fan.

I really hope with being dropped from her label she makes better songs which I think her comments on Saladgate might've put her in hot water. Regardless this song is terrible and well I hope she makes better music than this dumpster fire. Just something about this song just comes off as a novelty and way too cheesy I do want to see how she does IF a label picks her up.

I really hope with being dropped from her label She wasn't dropped -- they parted ways. Their was definitely conflict in what direction they would have liked Jenn's music to go and perhaps how her radio career was being handled, but that's just speculation on my part. She wasn't dropped though, that I'm confident in.

So this sounds promising for what's next for her. Hoping that includes signing somewhere new and getting back on track single wise.

The video was posted in the "News and Non-Singles thread" a little while back, so to not bump this old thread.
