Why do I start what I can't finish?

I mean, the fact that Disclosure already hit it big with Latch should be enough for Alt stations to say nope. If it were by a lesser known act, then maybe I would be less resistant

Latch was my least favorite song on Settle...Sam Smith has a beautiful voice, but it's rarely compatible with the kind of music that appeals to me

"Latch" was one of those songs that grabbed my attention and I was hearing it for about a whole year without knowing what it actually was (I don't have the privilege of having a DJ ID tracks I hear in places unless I get to see the Muzak head unit), even though I knew of its existence from following the pop charts. I could see a market like San Francisco alone giving that song almost enough plays to chart on Alternative, and that the biggest reason it didn't happen was not because "Latch" was a pop hit, but because it had Sam Smith, which would explain why Disclosure is still accessible to Alternative in 2015. For what it's worth, I think the songs Sam Smith did as a featured vocalist for someone else were generally way more interesting, and just better than his own tracks.
It wouldn't change my opinion on the songs or on Lorde overall, but I think it's pretty cool that after "Royals" and "Team", all of her singles have pretty much been Alternative exclusives. I did not expect that to happen at all.

And Alternative continues their not-so-secret, yet strange, fetish for Lorde. Although, it may not be as big this time around as it's not exploding up the chart.

It's also not, "officially", even a single (yet) - stations are just playing this out of their own prerogative. It's not even listed under Cool New Music - though it is currently one of Alt's five Most Picked. Plenty big for a non-single, I'd say!

I assumed this was an Alternative-only single or something, based on the airplay. I guess we can start expecting 300+ bullets for this if it ever does become a single? ;)

Well, I heard this finally, and I'm (unsurprisingly) underwhelmed. Never was a fan of Lorde in the first place, but she just sounds bored on here. And the song itself sounds very repetitive. I was hoping for it to end by the time it finally did end.

I was hoping for it to end by the time it finally did end. I don't think she sounds bored, but she is definatley auto-tuned for EDM music purposes. That's why I'm not the biggest fan of that style.

Wait a second. This was on Alt charts before it even went for adds? How does that happen? Better question: How often does that happen? I'm genuinely interested to know the answer to that. It happens quite often. Sometimes Alt just picks up a song like "Magnets" and runs with it, but will usually stall around the 30's since only a certain number of stations will be playing it. Their label then can send it for adds to help get other Alt stations across the country on-board. Other times there are established or highly anticipated artists that release singles without an adds date and debuts high and keeps climbing consistently. Sometimes labels put out their add dates after the song is released, and schedule it for a week or two after the debut of the song. I guess this is just to ensure outlier stations get on-board with the song as well? I'm not sure what a label's strategy is when it comes to a situation like that.
