It literally does not matter what Blake releases, country radio will spin it like crazy. "Gonna" is up over 600 spins and 3.5 million in audience this week and should move to at least #31 on the MB chart by Sunday. This song is already in heavy to medium rotation on nearly 20 stations and the lackluster sales out of the gate don't mean a thing when you're one of the two biggest format superstars. Radio adds the superstars music right away and converts it to steady rotation because they believe their listeners desire to hear their new music and with The Voice coming shortly and this song being a light-hearted, upbeat song, expect a pretty fast climb unless this somehow researches poorly which I do not see happening. This song is fine I guess but its the epitome of everything I hate about labels choosing singles. This song is a quick gratification for radio programmers. The problem is what jhomes87 said, it won't be remembered down the road, even just a year or two down the road. When the radio is chock full of "Gonna's" you get a watered down playlist that doesn't emit passion or love for music that made me love this genre in the first place. Going down the list of singles out right now I see too much of that ("Young & Crazy", "Hell Of A Night", "Lose My Mind", "Let Me See Ya Girl", "21", "Gonna", "We Went", "Yup"). I understand some here love those songs, and I don't mean to be the "back in my day guy" but even 10-12 years ago there was a better balance of upbeat, serious, story telling and love songs. "Gonna" will go up the chart as fast as most Blake singles but I guarantee a month from now I will be tuning this song out because its just typical radio fodder that doesn't make me feel much of anything; couple that with the 10-12 songs I dislike and I find my self turning the dial often.

Do you think it could pass Jana and/or Hunter Hayes by Sunday

Do you think it could pass Jana and/or Hunter Hayes by Sunday Doubtful. Blake is still 450 spins and nearly 3.0 million in audience behind Jana.

I'm certainly not going to argue with anyone who sees this as a non-event of a song, but I have to say as someone who has been quite critical of Blake for his clinical studio singing (I've found his delivery of songs like "Sangria" and "Lonely Tonight" to be completely lacking in heat), "Gonna" has a cadence, melody, and lyric that really works for Blake's delivery -- I can't imagine anyone else in the format delivering it any better. Blake sounds alive on it in a way that he hasn't in a while. Yes, the production choices are uninspired (as they often have been with Scott Hendricks at the helm), and I would much rather hear Blake channel his personality via better songs, but it's easy for me to understand "Gonna"'s appeal.

Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, The Band Perry and Brett Eldredge performed at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House Monday night (8/31) for American Saturday Night: Live From the Grand Ole Opry, a film set for theatrical release in early December.

I really like this song and I don't really want to say it's struggling because of how new it is, but it is struggling. Looking at a bullet of 141 today...that's pretty bad for a Blake Shelton song and this one is still in the low 30s on country iTunes.
Blake definitely held his promise to go back to a more country sound on this record, but there were better choices than this. Should have gone with "Bringing Back the Sunshine" or "Just Gettin' Started" for tempo.
Not sure what they are going to do with this one...at this rate it could take another 15 weeks to the top. I think they'll go with a fifth single either way and I'm hoping Blake is going to make a statement and go with "Good Country Song".

I don't really feel like this is struggling that much. It's been in the Mediabase Top 50 for 2 days longer than "Riser" and "Blue Bandana" and those are at 41 and 40, respectively, and this is at 20.
Sure, it's slowed down some, but it still saw an audience pickup of 327k today. Basically, to me, this is acting like a typical Blake single.

In short, this is performing not quite as well as Blake's last few singles, but its still doing far better than 90% of the singles on the chart. I have no worries yet.

Yeah, this isn't exploding the way "Sangria" did, but it's also not struggling at all, either. This will just be an inoffensive #1 that doesn't leave much of an impact or sell much, like Kenny Chesney's "Til It's Gone" or Jason Aldean's "Just Gettin' Started."

Even if this song were "struggling", it's still doing better than most songs on the chart.

Should have gone with "Bringing Back the Sunshine" or "Just Gettin' Started" for tempo. The idea of it struggling aside, this is another thing that's been bugging me; I've seen this a few times and I just don't understand it. "Gonna" is definitely an up-tempo song so I really don't follow the idea that they should've released something with more tempo? Like, this is the most up-tempo single of the era thus far, lol.

This song has no video for it and has not been sung a TV show. It's doing just fine.

Sorry, I didn't mean they needed more tempo necessarily, but instead those would have been better options if they were intentionally looking for tempo. Aside from being catchy and having speed, I don't know what else you can say about this song. The other two have those two attributes along with actually being more substantial and memorable.

Fair enough, but this wasn't the first time I'd seen a comment like that about this song so I felt like I was missing something. I think "Gonna" is a lot better than both of those but I just really love the production and melody. It's no lyrical masterpiece, but it's very catchy and accessible for radio. I wouldn't have complained if the title track was released instead, but I definitely prefer "Gonna" by far.

This is a pretty unmemorable Blake song for me, particularly coming on the heels of "Sangria" and "Lonely Tonight", both of which I thought were excellent. To me, Blake has one of the best "country" voices out there right now as far as having a good mixture of timbre, power and grit. This one just doesn't quite deliver though.

I have a feeling this will be the one to end Blake's #1 streak. It's definitely started struggling, which I haven't seen from a BS song in years. This is probably researching poorly...it just sounds really obnoxious and aggravating. Warner can probably push this to a Mediabase #1, though.

Will make the upcoming 20 #1s CD very prophetic.

As I mentioned above over a month ago, this one is indeed struggling. Nobody believed me then, but it's beyond clear now.
I assume the release of the greatest hits album means we won't get another single off this album which is a damn shame because "Good Country Song" lives up to its name and may be one of the best things Blake has ever recorded.

This song is at least instantly recognizable in its inoffensiveness and has a moderately well written melody, which is more than I can say for, say, "Over".

I have heard this song well over 10 times and I still cannot tell you anything about it. I listen to it every time it is on, hoping I will suddenly be able to remember something about it, but aside from it being Blake, I literally can tell you nothing about this song. It is the definition of background music.

I feel the same way to some extent, but I feel it even more so about "Over", "My Eyes" and, to a lesser extent, "Doin' What She Likes".

I feel the same way to some extent, but I feel it even more so about "Over" I know I've said this before but "Over" is the most forgettable, bland, uninteresting song on country radio the past five years. It took me a few listens to even know what the heck "Gonna" was about and to be totally honest, I still don't exactly know the point of this song. I agree about it being background music...the only part of the song I do vividly remember is that "hey, hey", alright."

I agree, the lyrics kind of suck but the melody is so catchy in my opinion and gets stuck in your head easily (in a good way) and because of that, I really like this song.

Blake Shelton talks about his catchy song "Gonna" and the importance of having fun songs on his albums. He also reflects on how unbelievable it is to have not one, but two greatest hits albums.

Dressing sharp, playing guitar...seven other people playing along...and that fiddle.
Like the song or not, THAT'S how you do country.

I've been using this tune's rise up the charts as a measuring stick in keeping it a safe distance away from 'Smoke Break' which I expect to hit #1 within the next 4-5 weeks, and the margin between the two has ballooned to over 1,200 spins after being in the 900 range for awhile.
How many of Blake's labelmates are ahead of him now anyway, and have any of them passed him in recent weeks?
