Can we get someone else who scored their last chart topper in 2012 another one this year? Love And Theft, anyone? I was thinking Gloriana but then I looked and saw that (Kissed You) Good Night only hit #2. That's disappointing. Guess who blocked them?

This got to number 1?? "Backroad Song" now has competition for the most boring #1 hit ever now lol. You really seem to hate Granger Smith lol. I agree with you on this song. It's so boring and pointless, same theme that's been done a million times and doesn't attempt to add anything unique to this. If this was a Luke Bryan or Jadon Aldean sing it would be getting ripped to shreds on here. I'm convinced that label politics for this to #1. Your 4th single just doesn't suddenly kickstart things up again after 2 single flops. If this were a Jason Aldean or Luke Bryan song it would be one of the best things they've put out to radio in the past few years, so I disagree with that assessment. I don't think this is anywhere near the level of banality of "Backroad Song," either. This is by no means an incredible or unique song, but it's a radio fluff song done quite well and it has a strong melody and hook and basically everything the Granger Smith tune lacks, right down to the damn song title being as vanilla a description as possible. I am surprised this one did as well as it did but it is by far the strongest radio single on the album since "Rewind," and I really only expected this to underperform due to the lower-impact chart peaks of the second and third releases, not because of the song itself (if it were the second single, it probably would've done even better than it has now).

Also, Kenny Chesney with Come Over. Gloriana's hopes of having a #1 were dashed when Blake Shelton took over with Over.

And I would definitely have to disagree with that assessment. Obviously this is very subjective, but both Luke and Jason have "fluff" songs out right now that are far more interesting and at least off more unique story lines. Luke has a traditional sounding song that's about hunting and fishing, how often do you hear that these days? Jason had a big time rocking anthem that captures the excitement of a big concert. I'll take either of those over this coma-inducing song any day. Both are outselling this one like crazy (I know both have an advantage in that department, but it still has to mean something). I also thinks its pretty interesting if you analyze the lyrics. Some of them are pretty similar in idea and theme to "Tonight Looks Good On You", a recent Jason song that some on here dubbed a "snoozer". "Tonight Looks Good On You" Opening: You ain't got a dress that I don't likeYou ain't got a pair of jeans that don't fit you just rightThere's not a minute in the dayThat you don't knock me out, you don't blow me away"I Like The Sound of That" Opening:I love hearing that shower turn onBet there's nothing but a towel on youYou sing along with the Motown bumpin'But they ain't got nothing on you"Tonight Looks Good on You" Chorus:Somethin' 'bout that southern skySittin' back behind that moonIt goes perfect with your eyesGirl tonight looks good on youSomethin' 'bout the way you're smilingMakin' them stars fall right on cueI just gotta tell you babyTonight looks good on you"I Like The Sound of That" Chorus:It's a little too loud on the highwayI wanna pull back in you're drivewayIt's way too quiet at my placeWanna come on over, come on overI just wanna hear that ringtoneI like it turned up when you're blowing up my phoneWanna here you say come on over, cause when you tell me to come on overI like the sound of thatThese two songs are pretty similar in theme. They're basically both about a girl being pretty and wanting to spend a lot of time with her. The production differs, and that is what mostly separates these two other than the distinct vocals of Jason and Gary.

There's no chance in hell of a 5th single from Rewind, right? Even though it's probably not a fan favorite I think "I'm on Fire" would be a good single choice.

They said last year that only more single would be released from Rewind. Things change obviously, but I'm pretty confident we'll see a few weeks or even a couple month layoff from Rascal Flatts before their next lead single.

I hope it's a couple months off so there's a chance Danielle Bradbery could finally release a new song that doesn't even hit radio. I'm just really impatient for new music from her.

They're basically both about a girl being pretty and wanting to spend a lot of time with her. The production differs, and that is what mostly separates these two other than the distinct vocals of Jason and Gary. I don't think I understand this argument though because whether they're the same topically or not, I think the Rascal Flatts track is a much more effective song from all aspects, and it doesn't really matter what similarities they may or may not have lyrically when refuting a statement that the Aldean track has been dubbed a "snoozer" by pointing to similar lyrics, because it completely ignores the actual qualities that would make something a "snoozer" (like a lazy vocal performance, uninteresting production, being a slower tempo, etc.). Lyrically the two songs may be similar but they literally sound nothing alike beyond that, and I'd hardly call anything about this a snoozer or draw any significant comparisons to "Tonight Looks Good on You" in all honesty. And in re: your stipulation about "Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' Every Day" being in contrast with my statement, I said that this would be " one of the best things" either of them have put out in recent years, as in among the better releases. I actually like Luke's current single (though I vastly prefer "I Like the Sound of That"), but that doesn't take away from my opinion that his three singles before it were total garbage. And I think Jason Aldean's current single is awful, boring, and a total retread of everything I unfortunately expect him to keep pumping out at this point, and I think "Lights Come On" is far more unoriginal and generic than this song.

I just feel that this song is pretty beneath Rascal Flatts at this point. These guys are in their 40s now, and this sounds like something Dan + Shay would sing (Gee I wonder why?). The production is generic and lifeless, they could have at least added something interesting to draw you into the song. I've never been a big Rascal Flatts fan to begin with, but they have had some nice songs (Riot, Rewind, Fast Cars And Freedom). I don't think this is a #1 that will be remembered much at all after its done, and the sales for this one seem to indicate that this won't be highly requested in future years either.

Gary LeVox is only a few years older than both Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan (who are both 39), so why is this song juvenile for Rascal Flatts but not "Tonight Looks Good on You" for Aldean, which you insisted was so topically similar? I think the maturity level of a lot of Luke Bryan's songs lately give off a much stronger "I should be too old for this" vibe than what Rascal Flatts is doing, i.e. 2. I disagree that the production of this is generic and lifeless; I actually think that the feel of this song is actually quite lively and I owe that to a number of things from a great vocal to great production to a very strong melody. I certainly find it drastically more engaging than the total autopilot feel of "Backroad Song." 3. I don't disagree with you there that this one won't be highly remembered. I don't think this will be remembered the way many of their biggest hits have been... but that's not to the discredit this one's success; it's done quite well, even if it wasn't massive like a "Bless the Broken Road" or "Mayberry" or "What Hurts the Most," but with someone like RF, that's going to happen. Radio isn't going to "remember" every hit by a successful artist because that's impossible. This was a success, but it's definitely no career hit.

But I don't, and I'm entitled to my opinion. And I don't recall saying that Jason and Luke weren't beneath this type of material? I blasted Luke on the "Home Alone Tonight" thread, and even though I'm a big fan of Jason, I certainly dogged and expressed my disappointment in "Just Gettin' Started". I brought the lyrics up simply to show how similar the two songs were.

I don't think I have ever chimed in my opinions on this song. I guess it's probably time! Like others have said, this is nowhere near my favorites from them, but I do enjoy it well enough. I actually have grown to enjoy it more over time, which is uncharacteristic of me given the extreme level of airplay it has been at for multiple months now.
I have always loved Gary's vocal in the first verse of this song. The way he gives his voice a nice, soft, rounded edge, and the ease with which he tackles the runs at the ends of each line while using such a voice. However, I originally found the chorus to be unfortunately wordy and clunky. I think that the line "I like the sound of that" is an extremely awkward-sounding hook, especially the way they make it fit into 3 beats. It's so wordy! So the chorus always sounded a little weird to me. But now I have grown used to it, and I do not mind. I still do not like it as much as "Rewind" or "Riot", but it definitely beats "Payback"!

Gary said they will record their Christmas record and their next new record this year. So it looks like the Christmas album coming the second half of the year.

Every time I hear this song on the radio, all I can imagine is Shay Mooney blaring out the vocals instead of Gary (and yes, I know Shay co-wrote it). I know comparisons have been made between Dan + Shay and Rascal Flatts numerous times already but this song is sooooo Dan + Shay, lol. Here you go sabre14, lol.

I hope the new album is awesome.

I think this song is just fine. It has cute details in the lyrics, and the sound reminds me of back when neither Rascal Flatts' sound nor lead singer were as bloated as they are now. After so many screech fests from them it's nice to have an RF song that goes down so easily

I am super glad that this became another number one for Rascal Flatts!! I hope the next album is really good and that there are more songs that are more like their earlier songs from the 2000s.
