I'm pretty touched at all the kind words and love thrown at bg. I feel all warm and cuddly. lol "Stone Cold Sober" is definitely an excellent track. He really blooms when he expresses his inner self on the offside tracks. He sure is an artist to watch and capable to mature and become a very great songwriter and storyteller. Hope that Borchetta will not meddle too much and try to steer the sound of Brantley's next project into a more mainstream direction. And please no collabos with label mates; no rap versions; no neon GAP clothings; no shaving; no duet on some random pop hit tailored to country... ;) / jk

"Stone Cold Sober" is starting to take off. Brantley's gained 127 spins and 550k in audience this week on MB (two more days to go until the final chart rankings) and he's jumped all the way to #38 on the rolling chart. Brantley will probably be #34 or #35 by Sunday evening since "Fly" and "Lose My Mind" are going recurrent and "Live Forever" is in free-fall mode -- "Better In Boots" could be passed by Brantley in the next two days, as well.
This song took a few weeks to get off the ground, but now that we're starting to see some chart space open up, it's finally caught on. "Stone Cold Sober" was at #49 on the 10/12 MB chart and just three weeks later, will be well into the 30's.

I know I've heard this a few times now, but I can't remember a thing about it. Which is weird since I usually like Brantley's ballads from the first listen.
Maybe because I can't make out what the hell he's singing. All I heard was "It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss??? with all these marbles in my mouth."

Is "SCS" in trouble at radio, or did it just have a bad week. Love this song and hoping it can be another number 1 for Brantley.

Is "SCS" in trouble at radio, or did it just have a bad week. Love this song and hoping it can be another number 1 for Brantley. Just a down week. "Stone Cold Sober" has still increased nearly 200 spins and 2.0 million in audience on MB over the past three weeks and is only 13 weeks old. KSCS in Dallas has really been helping this one out though as they have accounted for 700k of "Stone Cold Sober's" total MB audience. It's still too early to tell how high this can get but the relative infancy of the song is reason to remain optimistic.

I still just don't quite get it. I heard this song for the first time today, and it's just ok for me. I always hear people talk about how awesome Brantley's writing is. Overlook the vocals, they say, the writing is great. To hear people talk about him you would think he was John Prine or Steve Earle or something. I have some experience listening to both of them and some other singer-songwriters who are not exactly great vocalists, so I can overlook a lot. My issue is, where are these great BG songs everyone talks about? Nothing that I have heard from him yet does a thing for me.

Album cuts (and especially when he delves into his faith) are his best songs IMO. Songs like: Saving Amy, Faith in You, Picture on the Dashboard, Play Me That Song, Indiana's Angel, and The Best of Me (Jason Aldean recorded this as well on his Wide Open album) are where I think he shines through as a strong songwriter. Not always the most original ideas, but well executed. I also feel he's amped up the voice problems where he is hard to understand as his first couple albums he almost sounds like a different singer.

I thought More Than Miles was a good example of his songwriting.

The song is beautiful, but I just saw the video on CMT and I do not support the burning of teddy bears.
That is all.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I would like to critic Brantley Gilbert's video. 1st, I want say I'm a huge Brantley Gilbert fan. ............ I cannot believe Shane Drake produced that "fun, laughable" video. He completely missed the point and misdirected a serious heart felt balled into a laughable sham. He's got the male character meeting {for the 1st time) this unknown girl at 1:50 into the video and by party's end she scribbling her number on his arm? Didn't Drake listen to the lyrics? Work things out and settle down? Work what out? All the guy did was laugh and giggle throughout the whole party scene. There was not one serious moment for one second between them where he captured that moment. Settle down? He never even had her phone #! How can you settle down and work things out with someone you just met? .The mess on the lawn was cheesy and immature looking like the aftermath a bunch of 14-16 year olds getting stupid after a weekend party with mom and dad away. He totally blew a great ballad. There is no humor in those lyrics. It's a guy pouring heart out to a woman he totally loves. Imagine watching the One Hell Of A Amen video and seeing with army guys laughing and playing cards throughout the video. Wait so long to be so disappointed Also, what's up with the video coming months after the song came out. SCS was already teetering on the charts when the video came out. The Chief's video dropped the same day as his song. Maybe a lesson leaned. Sorry, I had to let my frustration out. I had to dump all this out. BG's one of my favorites. I live in the Chicago area with 2 major Country radio stations and sadly, I have never heard SCS aired on either station. The Chief's new one was played 10 times the very day it dropped. I guess I'm expecting too much. Sorry my 1st post was a dumper.

This is another one of those songs that sound really grating. It's really hard for the average listener to make out the words at some parts, and I think that could be this song's downfall.

This is literally my problem with every single Brantley Gilbert song ever, except for More Than Miles which I actually found listenable.

This is actually the first Brantley song that I have generally loved since before mentioned More Than Miles.
I think Brantley is one of the best of coming with songs with realistic lyrics, like with this song. I could totally see myself being the guy that confesses his love after a little too much to drink. (Is that too much information??? haha)
Anyway, I think the lyrics really sell the song, and now that I have heard it by him so many times, I don't think I could see someone else singing it.

sabre14What are your thoughts on this? I'm not worried at this point, but still... It's moving up the chart on par to "One Hell Of An Amen" but the AI are about 4.5M lower than OHOAA had in its 25th chart week!

This one had a relatively slow start due to the recurrent play of "One Hell Of An Amen" but it started picking up once it hit the top 40 and then hit a little surge in the top 30 -- now its having pedestrian type updates. "Stone Cold Sober" is only up 2.0 million in Mediabase audience over the past +3 weeks and since this is the last single from this album, I wouldn't be surprised if they stop pushing this at some chart threshold (top 20, top 15, top 10). It still remains to be seen how high this one can get. I wouldn't be shocked at another high charting finish though.

I'm liking this one from him but it's getting a little long in the tooth for someone who's at his level. I wouldn't be surprised to see them let it go at the top 10.

This song had to grow on me. I would keep hearing it and going "oh yeah, this song, I forgot all about it", but the more I paid attention to it, and the more I made out the lyrics through Brantley's mushmouth singing, the more I enjoyed it.

Seriously now I'm legitimately concerned of how "Stone Cold Sober" is doing. It hasn't seen any real good updates for a while now and I'm more than convinced that "Stone Cold Sober" is nearing the end of the road.
Edit; Yeah "Stone Cold Sober" probably won't be doing much more as Brantley has lost about 33 spins the past 6 days. "Stone Cold Sober" has also lost 380k in audience as well this week. While I don't think the losses this week will be enough to send this recurrent(it's probably going to get a grace week). I am very confident that this song won't be moving up much anymore.

Maybe Brantley Gilbert will announce new music. Stone Cold Sober probably won't last much longer at all. Especially as it's basically flatlined on radio. I do like the song well enough but this song is now just filling up chart space.

Looking back now, it seems like this era kind of under performed, at least when you consider how much momentum Brantley started with. I know some will say that sounds silly considering his album is either really close to Platinum or it has already gone platinum, but singles-wise this era has really disappointed. "Bottoms Up" was a huge mega hit, and Brantley had a ton of momentum coming off the heels of that one. But releasing "Small Town Throwdown" kind of put a hole in the ship and it started taking on water. The song was a non-event despite the help from a few friends. Then "One Hell of an Amen" had to take 40 weeks to get to the pinnacle. I'm thankful that it was chosen as a single because its a fantastic song, but it wasn't quite a giant hit (although nothing to be ashamed about either). Now we have this tune which seemed like an odd choice following a Power Ballad that took 40 weeks to peak. And this was from the bonus tracks on a re-release of the album, it wasn't even an original tune. I just can't help but wonder how big "17 Again" and "Lights of my Hometown" could have been if either had been the 2nd single. I think Brantley could have made his case for the A-list had he released one of those amazing songs. I think Brantley will be fine going forward, and I expect a big lead single from him, but again, its hard not to think what things could have been with better single management.

Agreed, this was a couple missteps away from an album era like Chris Young is having now that's shaping up to be his final push to the A-list imo. Both being artists in very similar position before the releases of their albums.

If you take away the April 17th update, "Stone Cold Sober" has lost 100 spins and nearly 700k in audience over the past six days -- 32 spins and 200k in audience lost today. I wouldn't be surprised if Valory lets this song go this week. This song has spent the past seven weeks between the #20 and #18 position on Mediabase.
