Fantasia is 32 years old and they market her like a 45 year old woman. There is no reason why she shouldn't be on urban radio making hits. "Without me" actually made her relevant in urban music and didn't have her restricted to Urban AC. Having a "good" album that no1 knows about because you aren't on the radio isn't going to help her career.
Furthermore, this album is easily her worst to date. Some artists need to be directed and she is one of them.

Critique rightfully the new music but i have to point out that regardless of what she puts out there the only stations playing new Fantasia will be Urban AC.

They market her like she's a 45 year old woman because those are the only people buying R&B records.

Harmony was the first producer she went in with when RCA opened the budget for the album. However, he wanted her to pursue that Without Me sound hardcore and she was resistant. Hmmmmm Harmony said in earlier interview he wanted to go the Tina Turner "What's Love Got TO Do With It" "Private Dancer" route for her new album. R.Kelly (was initially suppose to do most of the album). Fantasia and Harmony chatted on twitter about trying to get back in the studio late last year. Her newer management tried to link up with Harmony earlier this year too as well as Oak and Pop. That would've been the "rock/soul" balance but Fantasia clearly doesn't think she could marry contemporary R&B mixed with Soul (that doesn't sound like a bunch of dated Urban AC music) successfully, which is why she wasn't satisfied until she got an executive producer that would indulge her to this degree (and to her detriment). Each of her albums has had a different EP and funny enough the one that indulges her completely ends up creating her least cohesive album.

Just starting this album, "When I Met You" is blissful. That is my Tasia. Ugh.
Edited: "When I Met You" was the only song that took me there. I like "Stay Up", "Wait For Me" and "Roller Coasters". However, those last two tracks could have stayed in the vault along with "Ugly". Honestly, "Lonely Legend" had a great sound, but it didn't hit me with anything. I love the intro to "No Time For It". "So Blue" feels so old to me now even though it is a highlight. I didn't care for "Crazy either. In the end, "When I Met You" is great. The album feels short as hell. And oh, "Sleeping" is blah.

Surprisingly, I love this album! It seems to me her strongest, and most well-balanced album to date. I am especially impressed that no song feels overproduced or oversung, which has been a constant complaint I have for her music. I mean, even all the "mediocre" singles sound so harmonious in this collection of songs.
Highlights: Roller Coasters, Sleeping with the One I Love, Crazy, Stay Up

Crazy No Time for It So Blue Lonely Legend I Made It
Nice but bland record; sounds more like some kind of musical revue compilation vs. an album.

All those not listing "Wait For You" are blocked for a couple of days. Other than that this album seems very...old.

They market her like she's a 45 year old woman because those are the only people buying R&B records. That's not entirely true. Labels just don't see value in R&B music, they don't support it, promote it or market it and as a result it doesn't sale. Clearly marketing her like a 45 year old is still mot helping her sale records, she might as well pull out some more bops like "without me" and get some radio hits.

This album isn't better than Side Effects of You, but I actually like it a lot. It's very sleek and easy on the ears. It's also her most versatile body of work, musically and vocally, by far. The vocal production on it stellar, which I'm guessing is the result of her working closely with Ron Fair. The only songs I don't like are "Ugly" and "I Made It." "No Time for It" grew on me and I like it even more within the context of the album.

I think they are really crazy for not releasing "When I met you" as the lead single and following it up with "Wait for you". "Wait for you" is the 2nd song she has done that really deserves crossover success. The 1st was "to the heavens" from her last album. She is on a major label and there is no reason why they can't push a song of hers outside of urban. I'm so sick of all the limitations that are putting on black women like her.

AllMusic gave the album 2.5/5 stars: Although I like the album, this review seems to match a lot of the responses I've seen online for it.

This is her worst album. I only like the two singles.

I didnt know R. Kelly wrote "Sleeping with the one i love." It totally makes sense now and I can hear him on it. He should appear on the remix.

I thought I would hate this album given, but I don't. It's definitely her worst album, but I don't hate it. I actually like Crazy, When I Met You, Stay Up & Wait For You.
Listening to these songs, some of the live arrangements would be beastly. That's the problem I've had with Fantasia, her stuff always sounds better to me when shevis backed by singers and a live band!

My favorites:
EXCELLENT
UGLY - *ultimate favorite* WAIT FOR YOU - great song, which should be the 3rd single - it really should have been the 1st single if record label had been smart
GOOD
WHEN I MET YOU - This will be a popular wedding song. Either this or WAIT FOR YOU should be the next single. LONELY LEGEND - Fantasia channeled Tina Turner well. SLEEPING WITH THE ONE I LOVE NO TIME FOR IT SO BLUE I MADE IT - This will be very popular during praise and worship; it should be released to Gospel stations.
Overall, I really like the album. It is really listenable.

^Decent number. 34K is not too far from the 40K that I projected a month ago.

Fantasia debuted at #19 with 133k (530k to date). Sheesh...crazy to think how 133k had you debuting at #19 back then. Albums in the top 5 today can barely crack 100k.

wow. I expected atleast 40K pure sales, hopefully numbers tick up and she does around 35K pure sales :/
Hope this album sells atleast 150K, although I do think that's a bit out of reach

They market her like she's a 45 year old woman because those are the only people buying R&B records. That's not entirely true. Clearly marketing her like a 45 year old is still mot helping her sale records, she might as well pull out some more bops like "without me" and get some radio hits. So it's a moot point then since it doesn't SELL either way so what is the difference? They can put her albums on sale and it still wouldn't sell. It's not just labels who don't see value its the A&R's and radio who don't. If radio saw value then trust that labels would offer them exactly what radio wanted. So imo they are doing the right thing by targeting her music to the audience it will be played at most and that happens to be Urban AC radio stations.

I really liked the album. I don't know I think it might be my favorite by hers. I'll give it a few more spins. Sad to see that the reception is not that good she really seemed happy with this project. The guy in the phonecall on "Wait For You" is drunk? I can't understand a word he says. Lol

Y'all, "WAIT ON YOU" is beyond a bop! The chorus is so infectious!!! It's actually edged out "UGLY" as my favorite on the album. In fact, it's my favorite song of the year!
I love when she sings "On-anan-on-anan-on-anan-on, I'll Wait For You".
This is a crossover single, although I doubt her label will release it as a single regardless of the format. Nonetheless, it's a great and catchy song!
