She performed this 10x better on The Voice than on the AMAs. She started off rough but it got better and better as the song progressed.

Exactly! I swear some people on this board just want to start drama. Hopefully, this hangs in there until Fallon tomorrow night. Sorry, am 100% not trying to cause "drama." I get your point, but a huge reason she is even so high is because of the Voice, so it seems silly to complain (multiple times) that it could be higher if not for The Voice singles. I was 100% not complaining...was just adding context to her chart position on iTunes. Obviously performing on TV helped the song (just like it would any song) but The Voice is unique in that it sends a large amount of songs (in this case 10) to iTunes after the show and encourages fans to purchase them as they count for votes for the contestants. When an artist performs on a talk show this doesn't happen...I guess the closest comparison would be an awards show where there are several performances but in most cases those songs were already on iTunes so the "instant grat" effect is not really relevant here. It's really not that serious, don't know why people are getting caught up on what I said.

She's visiting Elvis Duran (Z100) and Morning Mash Up (Sirius XM Hits 1) tomorrow!

Finally a better pop update but still meh imo Up to #4 on iTunes and with the voice contestant above it decreasing this has a shot of being #3 soon leaving her only behind the powerhouses of Bieber and Adele who are getting HUGE Radio airplay. If Radio doesn't pick up they are going to look silly for not playing a song that is obviously connecting with their audience. The interview with Elvis Duran was cute this morning. They played "Used to Love You" and her cover of "The Rainbow Connection" back to back lol. Hopefully this means increased spins on Z100 moving forward but at least for now a spin during the heavily tuned in morning show is great exposure :).

Love this song and love seeing Gwen so high on iTunes after such a long time. :) I hope post-promo sales can hold up while radio inevitably drags its collective feet catching up.

I need radio to pick this up a lot more now with its amazing iTunes performance.
When is Gwen's Jimmy Fallon performance? Could she make it to #2 on iTunes?

This definitely deserves more than its getting from radio. I feel like it's been two steps forward, one step back the whole time. We also have the freeze coming up which has potential to halt this just as it begins to find its feet at radio.

Hopefully it'll still manage to climb despite the year end countdowns just after Christmas. Given its iTunes performance, I'm hoping it'll benefit from the gift card effect. Also helps that Gwen has a bit of radio promotion coming up which is good.

It may take its time, but this has all the ingredients to become a substantial hit.

already played 3x today on Z100 when typically it only gets 1 spin per day. looks like they upped rotation but hopefully its not just for today.

My songs ahead of it falling on pop, and no real competition behind it. As long as it keeps increasing, it should have a quick ride to the Top 20 :) She should be top 20 by the official chart on Sunday, barring a disaster.

I'm loving the timing of promo! This escalated strategy in a relatively short period of time can be effective. Radio really has to react now!! Good thing is that the song has a winter vibe so I'm confident it can keep climbing up after the freeze.

The promo has been on point. I can't imagine what they'd with the album, but wow @ this being #3 on iTunes right now just behind Adele and Bieber.

Another thing to take into consideration is it doesn't seem like the album is coming out until late February (Gwen said she wants to record more songs after The Voice wraps up) at the earliest which makes me thing Interscope will want to push "Used to Love You" until then (unless they have a killer second single lined up). I'm hopeful this continues to make strides at the top of 2016.

Heavy, heavy promo. Can't believe how much she's performing it. I wouldn't call it super heavy promo (we ain't talking Taylor Swift levels here lol) but yes I'm glad she is performing it unlike "Baby Don't Lie" to which she paid dust. Her performance on Jimmy Fallon was her best vocals yet! She looked great and The Roots as the back up band was a nice touch. I prefer The Voice performance the best visually though so far. If all goes well, this should move up to #21 tomorrow and #20 on Sunday on Pop :) Plus, still holding steady at #4 on iTunes!

I don't think it's fair to compare to Taylor Swift- who can even afford that? But Gwen's promo at the moment is definitey very heavy. Multiple high profile performances, a radio tour, active social media, a PR time that's working overtime to engage the press etc. One of the most comprehensive marketing campaigns for a single that I've seen in a while.

Why is Taylor off limits? She was on almost every single entertainment telecast for a year straight and had her own iheartradio concert broadcast on 100+ radio stations. I would put her on the high end of the promo spectrum and she is absolutely fair game for comparison purposes. Gwen did one performance on Ellen right when "Used to Love You" went to Radio and then no TV performances for almost a full month until she did the AMAs (along with almost every other artist who has a hit right now), The Voice, and Fallon. And in all fairness The Voice is a no brainer since she is a coach on the show and the coaches always perform...it would be bizarre if she didn't. I agree with you about the Radio tour and PR (although the media loves a scandal/celeb coupling so the Gwen+Gavin+Blake+Miranda story sells itself) but her social media presence is pitiful. Up until recently she hardly tweeted or instagramed and when she does it's not something worthwhile to attract that much attention - her follower count is low across all platforms compared to other artists of her stature. I'm definitely happy with the promo though and hope it keeps up.

I would put her on the high end of the promo spectrum and she is absolutely fair game for comparison purposes. Of course Taylor is on the high end of the promo spectrum but that's not the point. Taylor opens with a million in album sales, sells out a world stadium tour, and send single after single to #1. It's unreasonable to expect the same level of promo as Taylor because she's an extreme situation. You're also comparing apples to oranges because we're talking about short-term promo for introducing Gwen's new single, and you appear to be holding her against the long-term promotion of an entire era ("a year straight"). Ellen, Fallon, the AMA's, and The Voice (coach or not) performances of a new single is very heavy promo. Most artists would love to have multiple high profile platforms like that. I'm personally happy that Gwen has this chance and that her song connects with the audience each time, but let's not make it sound like we have some kind of organic viral hit on our hands when each sales boost is the direct result of aggressive promotion as of now.

You're also comparing apples to oranges because we're talking about short-term promo for introducing Gwen's new single, and you appear to be holding her against the long-term promotion of an entire era ("a year straight"). Taylor wouldn't be reaching those high levels of success without basically the whole entertainment industry behind her promoting her brand and music. She needed promo just like every artist, the difference is her selling potential is higher to begin with. I never expected Gwen to receive the same level of promo that Taylor did (example #1 of you twisting my words) and frankly don't want her to. No artist needs to be shoved down everyone's throat like that...it can only be sustained for so long before people get sick of an artist. Ellen, Fallon, the AMA's, and The Voice (coach or not) performances of a new single is very heavy promo. Most artists would love to have multiple high profile platforms like that. I'm personally happy that Gwen has this chance and that her song connects with the audience each time, but let's not make it sound like we have some kind of organic viral hit on our hands when each sales boost is the direct result of aggressive promotion as of now.[/quote] I never said that this was an organic viral hit nor implied that(example #2). If you review this thread you'll see I've said a bunch of times this song responds well to PROMO.

Yes the promo is helping but the way you stated it kind of makes it sound like you don't think this deserves or could be a hit on it's own. The song is great and when it was first released sold pretty well on it's own with very limited promo. All the promo has showed me is that when people hear it they Love it and buy it.

It's always disappointing to see an artist not promote their work, so I love that she's going all in with this. If she wants to make a real comeback, this is the way to do it. It also helps that the song (well, radio mix) is great.
