Up 2 more spots to #24 on Billboard; I was thinking he might be able to get to #22, but A Thousand Horses stayed just ahead, and Chase Bryant rallied. Still, "Nobody To Blame" is doing great, and it has a chance to finish this week at #20. Parmalee and Dan + Shay will go recurrent, Chris Young probably will as well, and I think Stapleton will pass A Thousand Horses this week. Rascal Flatts and Chase Bryant are also within striking distance, but they'll take some work to catch.
Carrie and FGL are both coming up fast and could pass Chris, but those two going up ahead is pretty much inevitable anyway. So if we assume they both make the pass this week, then Chris would need to pass the 3 songs just ahead of him and have 3 songs go recurrent in order to finish at #20. Not impossible, but he'll need a few things to go his way. In any case, this is looking like a big hit. I'm now thinking it'll be a future #1. Chris' album sales remain incredible, too. Traveller is expected to sell another 50,000 this week and remain at #1 on Top Country Albums.
And quite a few of the individual tracks continue to do incredibly well on iTunes, too. Here are their current rankings on the iTunes country chart:
10 - "Tennessee Whiskey" 14 - "Nobody To Blame" 51 - "Traveller" 114 - "What Are You Listening To?" (not on the album) 138 - "Fire Away" 148 - "Whiskey And You" 149 - "Outlaw State Of Mind" 175 - "Might As Well Get Stoned"
Keep in mind that most of these would be ranked quite a few positions higher if it weren't for all the songs from The Voice.

The Mediabase callout scores for this one are pretty good. It's thirteenth positive, fifth most favorite, twenty-sixth negative, eleventh net positive, seventh least heavy burn.
That said, I like this song and hope it continues to move up.

He did "Sometimes I Cry" on the Tonight Show Here's Chris' performance of "Sometimes I Cry" from the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon! (video at the link) www.rollingstone.com/music/news/see-chris-stapletons-electrifying-cry-on-fallon-20151218I love how he's had a couple of performances so far and has decided to showcase songs other than the single. "Nobody To Blame" is a great song for country radio but it's his performances of "Tennessee Whiskey" and now "Sometimes I Cry" that are really selling the album. Not that NTB isn't selling (it's top 10 on iTunes country, and #72 all-genre, which is spectacular) and/or helping to sell the album, but I'm of the belief that performing album tracks rather than just 'pushing the single' can do wonders for album sales, and we're seeing that here.

One of the local stations around here has "Nobody To Blame", "Tennessee Whiskey", "Traveller", and "Whiskey And You" all in medium rotation. It's the same station that's been playing Chris Lane's "Fix" a lot, too, which is bizarre because they haven't been big supporters of Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett, FGL, Luke, etc.
They play a lot of current music but they've kept the ultra bro/R&B tracks in light rotation and instead have favored the big mainstream hits that are more in line with country's roots ("Save It For A Rainy Day", "I'm Comin' Over", "Buy Me A Boat", "Burning House", "Girl Crush", "Smoke Break", etc. all got a lot of airplay, whereas songs like "Strip It Down" and "Break Up In A Small Town" haven't gotten nearly as many spins).
Chris Lane's song sticks out like a sore thumb on their playlist, but I'm loving all of the Stapleton music. His album tracks getting airplay is pretty bizarre too because this station isn't known to play album tracks, but I definitely won't complain if they're Stapleton album tracks :)

WFBE Flint, which is a Nash FM station, played "Tennessee Whiskey" today. They also played "It All Started with a Beer" twice in 3 hours.

I like this song a lot! It is one of the countriest songs I've heard in a long time. I'm only 18 (19 tomorrow) but this song still reminds me of something one of the legends from a long time ago would've had a hit with.

I just heard "Parachute" during the Russell Athletic Bowl featuring North Carolina and Baylor on ESPN. I really hope "Parachute" or "When The Stars Come Out" is the next single.

I also think "Fire Away" could be a single.

I was totally going to post in here on New Year's Day but I forgot. ESPN went with "Parachute" as their go-to-commercial music for more than just the Russell Athletic Bowl. I heard "Parachute" multiple times during the Fiesta Bowl and the Rose Bowl (and probably the Sugar Bowl too but I tuned out for that one)!! :o No lyrics but you could definitely hear that it was "Parachute". I also heard the music to David Nail's "Night's On Fire" once, but mostly they were using the "Parachute" melody :) As much as I'd love to see "Parachute" as a single (it's my favorite track on the album), I think it would probably be in Chris' and UMG's best interest to go with one of the better-selling/streaming tracks. After Chris' CMA performance, "Tennessee Whiskey" became the most popular track on the album by far...sure, it's a cover and is more blues/soul than we typically get with country radio releases, but its sales and streaming performance has been incredible. If they want to leave that one as an album track, then perhaps they'd go with a re-release of "Traveller". That's been the next best-selling track, which makes sense given that it's the title track. I believe "Fire Away" has the next highest track sales after "Traveller" (not including "Nobody To Blame", since that one is obviously now selling due to its airplay).

I would love to see Nobody To Blame hit the top 20 in tonight's Billboard Country Update. It's not likely to happen. There aren't any recurrents on New Year's week because everybody re-bullets after gaining back all the lost airplay on December 24 & 25. "Burning House", "Gonna", and "Top Of The World" might have all gone recurrent tonight if this had been a normal week, but they should all get bullets and spend a final week on the chart tonight. Stapleton will crack the top 20 but it won't happen for another week.

Have to agree with you about "Tennessee Whiskey" being the next single. To me, it's a no-brainer. The song is still selling well to this day, 2 months after it's breakout performance at the CMA's. It's clearly resonating with fans and listeners, and the sales indicate that it would continue to sell well with continued airplay. Basically, I can't see radio having an excuse to NOT play "Tennessee Whiskey", it has all the ingredients for a big hit and is already proven to be popular. A similar comparison would be recently with Sam Hunt and "Break Up In A Small Town". BUIAST was selling extremely well before it was released as a single (was almost certified Gold already) and never went away. Despite having clear non-country influences, radio simply couldn't deny the ratings and sales and popularity playing that song would bring to them. I think "Tennessee Whiskey" would play fairly similar.

I think Tennessee Whiskey would certainly do well as a single, but given the sales its driven without radio it might just make more sense (or cents) to come with a different single. I originally wanted a re-release of Traveller (and would still like to see that), but now I think When The Stars Go Out would be the best choice. It's probably the most radio-friendly song on the album, and backing up Nobody To Blame with another hit will be crucial for Chris' longevity.

The fact that this song is charting so nicely only because of the CMAs publicity boost is wrong in so many ways. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of this guy and his debut, and I love hearing this on the radio, but it seems like radio is just saying, "Hey man, we don't think your music fits in with the demographic we cater to, but since people are buying and liking your music, I guess we have to play your music now." All I'm saying is that this does not seem natural at all, and I fear that this success (on the radio at least) will be temporary. Country radio is so unpredictable though, so I guess we will see what happens with this guy. Props to Stapleton though for all the accolades though!

So Saturday Night Live, on their Facebook page, said Chris will be on. I think the 16th, I can't link it now, but that would be really cool.

I think both "Traveller" and "When The Stars Come Out" would be great singles, but I think "Parachute" would be even better. It's "Parachute" that strikes me as the most 'radio-friendly' song on the album.

"Tennessee Whiskey" is a no-brained at this point. It's nearly Gold and people know of it. It'd be a hit. "Nobody To Blame" sounds great through the radio too.

I watched his performance on SNL, but I just don't like his style of music, and the first song he did on SNL was "yelling" than actual singing.
