I used to be crazy for him during the FSLS era, and I even liked his 20/20 set too but something is just off this era. "Filthy" sounds a like a reject from FSLS, the video seems like something from that time-frame (outdated), and the 3 other songs I've heard were forgettable. Had the same sentiment watching his SB performance last night... I got excited at the start of both "Until The End of Time" and "My Love" but something just wasn't connecting. It was almost like a final dress rehearsal and you could literally see him counting steps during one of the dance breaks.
Maybe he just tried to squeeze TOO much into one set. The other reviews I've read and heard on radio haven't been kind to him at all.

HDD is also reporting that the tour has already sold more than 450k tickets. This would have been at least 250-300k in sales if he did an album bundle. They are really making some dumb decisions.

While it's cool to shade Justin these days, how come nobody's talking about the fact that he spent a good portion of the last decade basically slut shaming Britney with thinly veiled digs at her alleged "infidelity"?
"FutureSex/LoveSounds" will always hold a special place in my heart - but I have never been a fan of his personality / or anything he did after FS/LS.

Those iTunes numbers are interesting, completely supports my massive payola to Suit and Tie and Holy Grail theory, which extends to Jay-Z and Jennifer Lopez being a completely payola created project(s).

His SB performance was good, not one of the best at all imo, but not bad His outfit was ugly af though, too much was going on with it
Now for this album Same thing as his outfit last night, a bit of too much going on.
Parts of every song I like, but intertwined as their full on songs Most of them were a huge mess And even the songs that were pretty good overall, none of them really grabbed me as something I'd listen to a lot honestly
2nd half of the album is better than the first half Overall: The album for me is like a 5/10 Too damn much at the same time is a no go, less is more sometimes
Disappointed that none of the songs on this record feel like a real highlight, I at least found stuff I liked on all of his previous albums.

Say Something debuts at #9 on the Hot 100, becoming his 19th solo top 10 (25th overall.) It's also his 7th Digital Songs #1.

Montana and especially Breeze Off The Pond (especially that "What I look like tryin' to hide my life..." section) and Higher Higher (now a highlight) have REALLY grown on me. Meanwhile, the more I think about Say Something, especially the lyrical content, the more it annoys me, and musically, it's flaccid. Wave would really have benefitted from a more fleshed-out chorus but I will maintain that overall, this album was produced and vocally arranged almost perfectly, even if some of the songs don't personally do much for me. I still stan for Flannel though. I don't care what NO one says. But, it's only because of the Civil War melody and his vocals. It's one of the few times he really sounds alive.
Meanwhile, this has dropped to a 53 on Metacritic. I don't see this album having legs or any radio smashes, so he really needs to recalibrate or retire, at this point. For the record, though, I don't particularly agree with the reviews and I get the sense that there is a rush for each reviewer to pile on, based on the previous negative review, which kinda sucks. There are really strong moments on the album, whether they be melodically, sonically, or vocally. I only wish he didn't value himself as a lyricist because it really makes no sense. He needed more EXPERIENCED writers in the room with him. I get the feeling that Timbaland, Danja, and The Neptunes gave him complete free reign when it came to the lyrics. Although, truth be told, some of these lyrical clunkers also REEK of Pharrell, who is just as bad.

I mean I don't know for sure but no one with that much money looks as terrible as he does and ages this quickly without addiction issues. Look at his eyes at pics from a lot of events from the last few years. He always looks like the most tweaked out person in the room/on the red carpet which is saying something for Hollywood.

Does he really do coke? He's aged horribly over the last few years. Everyone does coke. Literally everyone does coke. I have to say, whilst I completely acknowledge he's been pretty sly at times, may have not paid his dues (Janet) and this album isn't that great, the endless bashing is becoming a bit tiresome - both on social media and in 'real life'. I really love his music and always have, so I'm getting a bit exhausted of people suddenly waking up to his behavior and acting like all of that is just erased, or that he's getting his comeuppance. There are plenty of shitty people in the world. He's hardly among the worst of them.

It’s amazing some of them stay as grounded as they do. Is he egotistical and ouch of touch with the people? Sure. Name one celebrity over 30 that isn’t

Maybe because I am not from there I can not really understand the whole thing about Superballs ;) But I saw his performance and it was totally interesting and cool. No better or worse than previous years. On French forums and sites people also have possitive reactions. I guess it is en vogue over the ocean to hate on people. Conveniently, he happens to be the one right now.
As for his album, I admit I did not listen to it but I plan to. I liked 20/20 But I did not any of video songs.

Being anxious and looking strung out does not mean he's on meth or coke. He smokes a lot of weed to help his anxiety, he has said that for years. He is a new dad with a baby up at strange hours, everyone hates him, and since The 20/20 Experience he has been aging poorly without botox. He is whiter than snow with pale undertones and probably spent a lot of time in the tanning salon. He is looking a little chubbier now too, most of that small muscle mass from past eras is gone.

I could see if the backlash was 1/10 of what Janet Jackson went through for, um, years. I'm supposed to cry for him, Argentina? He'll live.

After another run through of this album, I have brought it up to a B- rating.
Meanwhile, 20/20 Vol 1 is his best body of work. Such a beast from start to finish. The ONLY album of his without filler. On Part II, I love Cabaret, TKO, Amnesia, and Drink You Away. The rest can go.
MOTW track rankings:
1. Higher Higher 2. Sauce 3. Man Of The Woods (thanks to the video) 4. Filthy 5. Flannel 6. Supplies 7. Morning Light 8. Breeze Off The Pond 9. Montana 10. The Hard Stuff 11. Say Something 12. Wave 13. Midnight Summer Jam 14. Young Man 15. Livin' Off The Land
Album Rankings: 1. 20/20 Part I 2. Justified 3. FS/LS 4. MOTW 5. 20/20 Part II

The baby sounds on "Young Man" are a total throwback to Xtina's "Vanity" and "My Heart (Intro)."

He was capable of a better SB performance IMO. I chuck it up to being away from the stage for some time and/or the coke that has him aging like milk.
The new dad explanation is kinda old for a 3 year old.

I love how I went into this thinking you were going to drag me but you just ended up dragging him instead As for the tears from stans in this thread, I get me/the internet/world have been doing the most this era but it's so fun we just can't help it. If your biggest defence against him is he isn't the worst person in the world that speaks for itself. Trash music/personality/looks = please delete. No one is killing him, he's doing better than any of us ever will (besides me the one and only Janet Jackson) let us enjoy dragging his ass, by all accounts the stans know he deserves it. When you feel bad for him think of all the women and POC that have had their careers ruined over sexist racist bullsh*t, and all the women/POC (britney, Prince, Janet) he's tried to come for/destroy before! trust me this will all start to seem a lot less unfair :sip2:
