Clint Black hit #1 with his first 4 singles, including Killin'Time and Better Man, which wound up #1 & #2 for the yesr in 1989 at Billboard.
Black wound up as the top new singles artist followed by Garth Brooks & Lorrie Morgan; throw in two more 1989 chart newcomers named Travis Tritt and Alan Jackson as Bob Kingsley pointed out recently.
That powerhouse quintet lit the fuse as country radio exploded in popularity in the early nineties and rose to #1 in total listeners by the summer of 1992 where it remains today.
I like Snapback quite a bit and hope it gets to #1 soon.

Well I think "Snapback" isn't going to br #1 at least not the next two weeks as Dierks Bentley is over 600 spins ahead on Mediabase and also about 7 million in audience as well. Now that wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that Dustin Lynch is pushing for max spins starting next week and Dustin as of today is only 300 spins behind and a little over 2 million in MB audience so it wouldn't take much for Dustin to hit the top. Old Dominion isn't making their move and the door is closing in on them if they want a #1.

Maybe, but this songs on dangerous high levels of AirPlay right now, and I have doubts they can stay stable for two weeks and then the next concern I have is can Blake/Thomas/Tim/Luke in the time frame of two weeks catch up which is certainly possible as each song is selling and doing a lot better than "Snapback". This situation kind of reminds me of when "Lonely Eyes" spent I think 3 weeks in the Top 3 and by the time it tried to peak radio was done with it. This song has spent a long time in the Top 5 which is basically the high levels of AirPlay and it might not last an extra two weeks as this will be week 5 in the Top 5 and then the week Dustin peaks will be 6. That would require "Snapback" to be in The Top 5 for 7 weeks. If I was Sony I'd make my move next week and try and block Dustin Lynch as I don't think "Snapback" has enough energy to last much longer.

They probably will try for split with "Mind Reader" at least.

RCA Nashville has this image changing ad in Aircheck's email this afternoon (the other ad being for Kane Brown). They won't get #1 on either chart this weekend (Dierks is simply too far ahead), so the best they can hope for is a split next week with "Mind Reader". Broken Bow's been adamant about the fact they're pushing 5/15-5/23.

Actually, I don't think Old Dominion will get to #1 next week, and maybe not at all. I'm actually thinking that they might go for a half week of ultra-power rotation (spanning the next few days) and try to wrestle the Mediabase #1 from Dierks on Sunday. They were a pretty hefty 2000 points behind him on Sunday's published chart, but it's not impossible to make that up. After all, Old Dominion gained 1351 points last week, while Dustin Lynch gained over 2200 points. Old Dominion hasn't had big gains this week, but maybe Sony is holding all their resources back for a mad push in the next few days. If Dierks levels off -- and I think he will, as he's at record levels on Mediabase and close to the Billboard audience record as well -- then Old Dominion could have a shot. I wouldn't put their odds any higher than 20%, but it's possible.
Dierks will definitely be on his way down next week so it's possible Old Dominion could go for #1 then, but I think "Snapback" has been in the top 5 too long to last much longer, and I think Dustin will come out the victor. I just can't see Dustin's label settling for a Billboard-only #1 (nobody does), and there's no way that "Mind Reader" would get 2 weeks at #1 on Billboard just so it could be #1 for one Sunday on Mediabase. Right now, I'm definitely thinking that Dustin will top both charts next week (if I had it my way, both Old Dominion and Dustin would get blocked from #1, but that's probably not gonna happen).

I see Dierks spending his second week on Mediabase. This push is too late if they wanted to wrestle the Mediabase #1 away this week. Old Dominion is trailing by over 600 spins and nearly 7.0 million in audience. Nothing's impossible but that would be the ultimate four day push
Old Dominion and Dustin are far enough behind to at least justify Dierks' absurd numbers.

Well darn, my theory isn't gonna play out. It was a stretch to begin with, I admit. But a small part of me was thinking that Old Dominion would start gaining big-time in today's update as Dierks started to fall. Well, Dierks did lose 50 spins and about 400k in audience, but Old Dominion actually lost 215k in audience and didn't gain nearly enough spins to be a threat this week.
So it definitely looks like RCA will battle it out with Broken Bow/Dustin next week. Despite that "max rotation" ad, it appears that RCA is actually holding "Snapback" back a bit right now and will go for max spins next week. The only other option is to just throw in the towel and settle for a #2 peak, but I think they'll at least challenge Dustin and see where they stand in about a week's time. "Snapback" has been a bigger hit than "Mind Reader", but I think Dustin is in a better position to ascend to #1 next week mostly because "Mind Reader" hasn't been in the top 5 as long as "Snapback" has.

RCA put this up in Aircheck's email today. Old Dominion did not start the week off good though as "Snapback" was out-gained 87 spins and 700k in audience by "Mind Reader." Dustin started the Mediabase week ahead of OD by 160 points and had an 800k audience lead on Billboard. This should be interesting since the numbers are relatively close on both charts. I'm still expecting Broken Bow to come out on top but maybe the labels work things out for a split? I'd rather they both play for keeps and attempt to block each other. RCA is the one in a pickle since "Snapback" has been in heavier rotation for longer.

I'm not totally sure how I feel about this one. I hear this all the time, but it hasn't really fully clicked with me. The melody is insanely catchy, but somewhere in the song is making this one a hard one to get into, though I'm not sure what it is.
The lyrics are sort of cringeworthy to me, which is part of the reason.

I never really cared for this song either but I do like the band. It looks like they will probably have to settle for #2 hit out of this one. I really don't see them holding off Blake's "Came Here To Forget" or even Thomas' "T-Shirt" the following week. Dustin's "Mind Reader" seems to be heading for his 3rd straight #1 this week. Then next week I'll have to give Blake the nod with Thomas at #2 and Luke at #3.

He/she said nothing about a 3rd week at #1 for Dustin but his 3rd #1 in a row.

I do really hope that "Mind Reader" gets the #1 this week over this. I like Dustin Lynch and that song so much more than these guys.

Which is impressive all things considered since Dustin is a B-list artist who seems to middle of the pack to stand out all that much (regarding sales) Saw somebody already quoted you and you already responded sorry!

"Snapback" gained a whopping 191 spins and 1.2 million in audience today. Meanwhile, "Mind Reader" gained a staggering 133 spins (800k in audience gained). That puts Old Dominion at over 9000 spins but Dustin's song is still ahead on the rolling chart due to a higher point total.
My calculations have both of these songs neck-and-neck. Dustin's gained 513 spins and 4.5 million in audience this MB tracking week, while Old Dominion's gained 461 spins and 3.4 million in audience. "Snapback" was ahead of "Mind Reader" on Mediabase this past Sunday by 150 points, so that gap has to be super thin as of today, especially with today's update.
The problem with "Snapback" is it has almost no room to grow with spin counts, while Dustin's song has slightly more wiggle room. We never saw a song go over 9000 spins before "Somewhere On A Beach" but now we've had multiple days of two songs going over that threshold.
There's still a shot RCA can rip the #1 on Mediabase away from Broken Bow but they need a perfect update tomorrow to do it. I know BBR will push through Sunday to get Billboard too but I have to think Sony will put everything they have into grabbing #1 on one of these charts.

First, it was Dierks Bentley. Now, it's Old Dominion, our second 9000 spins artist at MediaBase:

After being denied the Mediabase #1, RCA misses out on the Billboard #1 by 166k in audience. The Mediabase update today made me uneasy but my prediction of Old Dominion being shut out this week held true.

Peaked at #2 on both charts. Now, please release a (more) country song! (The melody is insanely catchy and perfect for a trip by car, but too far from country atmosphere, also modern country)

I'm really hoping "Song For Another Time" is the next single. That has smash written all over it in my opinion and is actually a really good song melodically and lyrically. "Song For Another Time" is certainly more country sounding than "Snapback".

More than likely we will be getting "Beer Can In A Truck Bed" the next single, which is alright with me but I'd rather have "Half Empty" or "Wrong Turns" next.

Peaked at #2 on both charts. I'm leaning towards this one peaking at #2 as well, but I think the label is gonna try to hold off Blake this week. RCA Nashville ran this ad in Country Aircheck Today: It makes sense, given that "Snapback" started the week nearly 7 million ahead of "Came Here To Forget" on Billboard. Now, we know Blake gained over 900k on Mediabase today while Old Dominion lost 750k, which certainly doesn't look good for OD, but if RCA can somehow stop "Snapback" from bleeding too many spins, then that'll make things tough on Warner Bros. and Blake. "Came Here To Forget" is still 1000 spins behind "Snapback" on Mediabase. I'm certainly not saying that Old Dominion is likely to finish this week at #1 -- in fact, I think Blake is much more likely to top both charts -- but given how far "Snapback" is ahead, I can see why RCA would try to hang in there until the [likely] bitter end. Look at it this way: if Old Dominion only loses 2-3 million this week, then Blake would need to gain 4-5 million to overtake them. That's obviously not impossible, but it's not exactly the easiest thing to do either. I give Old Dominion less than a 10% chance to hold off Blake's charge, but we'll have to keep an eye on the daily updates. I knew something was up today (or yesterday, I should say, since today's update reflects Monday airplay) when Dustin Lynch lost over 110 spins on the rolling chart, whereas Old Dominion only lost 29.

I thought it was a mistake when I saw the ad yesterday in my email but seeing again today, yeah, they'll try to hang in there. That explains "Snapback" only losing 29 spins in today's update.
Radio will likely not be keen on letting this song stay in extreme heavy rotation for yet another week so I expect Blake to take both charts too. RCA just ran into awful timing.
