Alright, I didnt want to offend anybody or what, still for me Adele goes more into category of Susan Boyle and yes you are right that Joanna Newsom will not sell as much albums even close to Adele, but she will sell more albums in 100 years time than Adele(in a year 2115), lets bet for this! Joanna Newsoms album Divers is for me definitely no 1 album this year and she is the real talent here or genius I must say! I CAN'T.

I had to google Joanna Newsome and her biggest performance was in 2005 at the Sasquatch Music Festival and since then hasn't reached higher plateaus decades later. Lets see how she handles a Grammy stage before we put her beside Adele, Senor sigor.

2115 - really?
OK I'll play - LOL. I'll bet 50 bucks that Adele will outsell Joanna Newsom in 2115. If I am wrong, feel free to collect. ;)
Edit: Had to google Joanna Newsom to figure out who we were talking about.

I CAN'T.I can. @sigur: clearly you don't quite understand how popularity works. Adele appeals to nearly every demographic. Young people. Old people. White. Black. Hipsters. Mainstreamers. Music buyers. Non-music buyers. Other musicians. People who know shit about music. Trendy people. People who wear the same clothes they've had since 1998. Becky's. LoToya's. Your mom. My mom. Pop radio. AC radio. Urban radio. Alternative radio. She makes music that isn't specific and is easy to digest and listen to but the most impressive thing is that she has something to offer for nearly everyone. People who care about big and precise voices? Check. People who care about songwriting? Check. People who care that their singers look good? Check. People who care their singers look normal? Check. People who care about feeling something with the music they listen to? Check. People who care only about melodies? Check. How many demographics can Joanna Newsom claim to appeal to? Or even Sia? I love Sia but like most of my favs, I'm well aware that most artists I love don't have anywhere close the mass appeal that Adele has right now. So what is your problem with her again?

She might get the credit for writing, but it still is more about the people who do the writing and producing with her and I just call her extraordinary selling numbers masshysteria, she doesnt deserve those millions albums sold compared lets say Joanna Newsom or Sia, Adele is the right product for the masses. Please, stop drinking. Sorry but this must be one of the most absurd things i've ever read. When someone is successful is very easy to read the success as a given fact. Now Sam Smith success seems something destined to happen but i'm pretty sure the marketing department of his label had nightmares thinking how they were going to promote him. Adele never did most things supposed pop stars do. Her life is not exposed on magazines, she never made publicity of her relationships (real or fake, in fact fake relationships as promo is basic standards for singers and actors), of course she never make the sexy pics for promo or try to be scandalous. She wrote songs and sing them, and people connect with her voice, her music and her lyrics. It seems easy but it happens (on such level) very few times For people who don't connect with her voice, music and lyrics her success can be seen as science fiction, but you can take her as an exception on the pop universe. If she were the prototype of pop star every label will be relasing their own Adeles, and that's no happening. Labels search for their own Britney's and Rihanna's, and they fail most of the time because it's not that easy to create a pop star When Adele release her first album nobody could predict this is going to happen, not even after the first album (which was a big success) And in terms of sales, italian writer Andrea Camilleri expain it very well, when you sell 100 thousand books you are a bestseller, when you sell a million are a fashion trend

The only Joanna Newsom song I know of is "Sapokanikan," whose lyrics are harder to decipher and whose pan flute in the bridge probably hasn't been on the radio since "My Heart Will Go On;" as Cynthia already superlatively covered, she and Sia are far enough left of center to not be as accessible to large audiences. Call it basic or undeserving if you want, but the relative simplicity of Adele's vocal style and lyrics make her material more accessible to multiple demographics. Nice of you to shame her for her appearance while you were at it, though - too bad she doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks about it.

Who the eff is Joanna newsom? Her Wikipedia entry mentions she's been dubbed "one of the most prominent members of the modern psych folk movement", although she rejects this label. Also, she's married to Andy Samberg, formerly of SNL. She did some vocals on a couple of Lonely Island songs but not, like, "D*** in a Box" or "3-Way (The Golden Rule)" or one of the more famous ones. So, yeah, a century (or millennium) might be needed to help her creep up on Adele's popularity...

Lol the Joanna newsom comments were quite hilarious as she is the last person I would compare Adele to at this point. But in saying that Joanna Newsom is fucking talented as. Still prefer Adele. But I like that posters taste in music. Better screaming Joanna Newsom will prevail as opposed to kAty perry or someone

Better screaming Joanna Newsom will prevail as opposed to kAty perry or someone I'd heard of her before (though I didn't know "modern psych folk" was a thing), but yeah, Joanna Newsom stanning in an HDD thread, that's different. Keeps it lively, makes me wish there'd been music forums back when Thriller was smashing, that we could read now. All the predictions that no one would remember Billie Jean, the MJ vs. Prince Wars...lol, who was the Joanna Newsom equivalent of 1982? The legend in the making who just needed a little time to be discovered by the masses...

This is incredible success and very good music attached to it. We waited for you for a long time, but lets give it up to first worthy addition to the diva list! #INCREDIblewomen #WORLDWIDEAPPEAL #SUCCESS #VOCALS #SOUL #DIVINE In terms of appeal and success, I totally agree with you. Vocally, though, I don't think Adele is quite versatile enough to match these ladies. Adele's voice is superb, and easily one of the best voices out there, but I don't think she's quite a vocal prodigy like Celine, Mariah, or Whitney. Her voice is unique, and very powerful, but she doesn't quite have the range or versatility of the other ladies, in my opinion. I agree, overall, that she's definitely worthy to be listed among them in terms of success and such - no question about that!

^ Agreed there will never be anyone in our life time that matches Mariah & Whitney in vocals, versatility and ease of singing and overall depth of talent. However if someone was to be compared vocally to those two it wouldn't be Adele, it would be Kelly Clarkson.

I guess Adele has found a way looking like an ordinary person(average weight and looking housewife I should say) and being a pop superstar at the same time. I mean she doesnt even write her own stuff and has nothing extraordinary about her, definitely not even close to talents of Michael Jackson. Maybe thats the new definition of being a pop superstar to be an average girl next door, who just finished doing her laundry. Well done suga, well done!!!

Maybe thats the new definition of being a pop superstar to be an average girl next door, who just finished doing her laundry. Well done suga, well done!!! That is the problem with people today. Ordinary is somehow a bad thing, and that the average girl next door can't be talented or superstar. She must be HOT! SEXY! and have no talent but if she looks great then she will be "amazing. Meanwhile its the same basic people scoffing at ordinary. Honey Patti Labelle might not look like your Katy Perry's and be hot and sexy but mama would 6 feet bury a hoe (and I'm pretty sure no man/lesbian wanted to f**k the s**t out of Aretha but they sure listened and bought and respected her and last I checked Barbara Streisand was pretty ordinary looking too ) . Talent , soul and voice can also do the laundry and carry extra weight and take a poop too! Now you can remain bitter and hate on Adele and project your own insecurities on her but Adele is f**king beautiful and talented and I need you to stop thinking Barbies are all that there is in women. Oh and I hate to break it to ya but your Joanna Newsom looks quaint, homely and very ordinary too. So what now?
