Thus making him the third such guest host in AT40 history, after Katy Perry in 2009 and Taylor Swift last year. I thought there was a good chance he'd get Jason DeRulo-ed instead (recall how in July JD guest hosted on a week when his "Want to Want Me" fell from #1 to #4.) It's safe to say that next week Adele gets what should be the last #1 of 2015; whatever is on top the week of 12/19 probably gets two extra "frozen" weeks there assuming the year-end countdown is played over two weeks, and nothing looks to have a realistic shot of dethroning "Hello" before then.

Weird, I know AT40 is usually 2/3 weeks behind but their usually up to date when it comes too song falling off. I'm not complaining though because I love both songs

And they also go back a ways; six of them predate 2010, though they're still generally widely played or remembered now (I haven't heard "Let It Rock" in a long time, so that to me at least was something of a curveball.)

At age 17, I believe Shawn Mendes is, now, the second youngest guest host in AT40 history. Miley Cyrus was 14 when she first guest hosted in 2007. Shawn bumps Debbie Gibson, who was 18 when she filled in for Shadoe Stevens back in 1989, down to third place.

Speaking of Shawn Mendes, what did everyone think of his guest hosting? To me, he wasn't bad by any means, but he did seem to be quite boring.

• Dang, I wanted Adele to be at #1 in just her fourth week. I must know AT40's secret at how they place the songs on this countdown. I know it's mostly based on Mediabase, but really.
• Only two songs stay put on this chart, both of them are in the Top 3.
• Nelly's first hit in two years samples Marvin Gaye's very last hit, Sexual Healing.
• Halsey's New Americana kind of reminds me of Rihanna's American Oxygen. Hmm..
• I thought Something Better was going to go this week, but after spending all of last month at #37, it makes a weird jump to #30.
• All of the Top 10 songs are sung by solo acts, four males and six females. Half of the artists seen are Canadian. In fact, the four gentlemen (Bieber, Weeknd, Mendes and Drake), all hail from Canada. Alessia Cara is the other Canadian. When was the last time the Top 10 consisted of all solo acts?
• Another question: Major Lazer's Powerful recently exited, and it never passed the group's previous hit, Lean On, on the countdown. When was the last time that happened?

Well he sure wasn't Mr. Excitement, but then again neither is Ryan. I thought Shawn did a good job.
The online program didn't have the usual ads, but instead dated snippets of Ryan and Ellen K. (and in one segment
a substitute for her). Very strange! For example, he says it's "only August" and he promotes a TV show that wasn't on this weekend.
There was not a cold start for once. I like Cake By The Ocean. It's a second song that links
cake and water. In Mac Arthur Park (by Richard Harris, and later Donna Summer), someone leaves the cake out
in the rain, and the singer will never have that recipe again.
We got 2 Can't songs in a row, and 2 Away songs in a row, plus Hide Away.
