This is the Hot Shot Debut on the Billboard chart at #58, one week ahead of the adds date. "Raised On It" held for another week at #44.

This is becoming a bit problematic for MCA Nashville. "Raised On It" saw six more adds this week and is on 18 monitored stations now.
The spin leaders include:
WUBL in Atlanta - 45 spins KBEB in Sacramento - 41 spins KBQI in Albuquerque - 40 spins WFUS in Tampa - 27 spins PCCO (Premium Choice) - 26 spins WRNX in Springfield - 21 spins WMIL on Milwaukee - 21 spins WDXB in Birmingham - 15 spins KHEY in El Paso - 14 spins WBBS in Syracuse - 13 spins WMAD in Madison - 12 spins KRYS in Corpus Christie - 12 spins WPOC in Baltimore - 11 spins WRBT in Harrisburg - 11 spins WEZL in Charleston - 11 spins WCOS in Columbia - 10 spins WDRM in Huntsville - 9 spins
Radio wants "Raised On It". The good news for the label is "Make You Miss Me" got 4 adds this week as well (7 stations overall) and the add date is next Monday. They put an ad in Aircheck for "Make You Miss Me" last night so they're not changing the single (at least not yet) but this is pretty interesting.

I don't know that I'd say it's "problematic" as I imagine most of these stations will eventually switch over to "Make You Miss Me" (that is, assuming MCA sticks with "Make You Miss Me"), but it definitely is an interesting situation. I wonder if there has been any pressure from radio? Most of the stations playing "Raised On It" are iHeartMedia stations, so I wonder if there has been any communication between iHeartMedia and UMG Nashville, with iHeartMedia perhaps expressing a desire to see "Raised On It" as the single instead.

Perhaps there's some built-in reason we're unaware of with "Raised On It." I'm thinking that when Sam was signed to UMG, terrestrial radio was given the assertion "Raised On It' would be released as a single to radio at some point (it was a Sirius/XM single in 2013) and over the course of time, UMG/MCA said "ehh, no, we're going to release "Break Up In A Small Town...now we're going to release "Make You Miss Me""...at the end of winter and right when we are about to head into warmer weather and if anyone hasn't heard the songs, "Raised On It" is way better suited for the Spring/Summer than "Make You Miss Me" is. It's not as if ROI is some world beater (imo), so that's why I think that radio was maybe even told a while back that song would get a release at some point. Stations seem to think the song is something that would really help their station, so if they believe that's the case, it doesn't surprise me they're fighting tooth and claw here. I know labels like to make their own decisions but sometimes you have to accommodate radio since they help pay your bills.

I think maybe it's a case in which terrestrial radio feels a bit left out, given that the "Raised On It" release back in 2013 was a SiriusXM exclusive.
All it takes is one listen to know that "Raised On It" is a hit, and so I think it's possible that country radio simply wants to be "in" on it. They want to be able to play it and turn it into an even bigger hit.

I like the analysis of radio wanting to play "Raised On It." But what about the flipside? What if they more or less DON'T want to play "Make You Miss Me"? Surely they would play it, but maybe radio execs are starting to see the pushback from fans about the new direction and they are starting to be a bit more cautious. Especially right after "Break Up in a Small Town" and "Take Your Time" clearly crossed some lines.
It may be far-fetched, but the pushback is there. I see it and hear it out and about: even casual country fans are beginning to realize what's going on and they don't like it.

I don't hate this song but I don't like it either. This song has a plain and simple production which is good, but it still sounds extremely plain to me. That being said, if Sam fully embraces a different move for his next album, then I might start listening to him again, but if it's that R&B sound that a lot of us aren't fond of then I'll never listen to him again. Sam Hunt needs to prove to us that he deserves to stay in Country music and the way that's looking right now he doesn't deserve to. Maybe he should reevaluate his sound for the next album and then make a decision based on that.

What he is doing is obviously working, so he would be a fool to switch things up too much to "prove" anything.

Actually he does. In an article last year on TasteofCountry.com he said that he needs to prove that he still belongs in Country music.

If we read the same thing, he was talking about proving he was good enough to belong on the music scene and how he's new to it. He stated nothing about changing his style. That article is almost a year old and it was not talking at all about his second album. At the time of the article, his 2nd single was still on the charts.

Hillary also sings the very prominent background vocal on Gary Allan's recording of her song "Every Storm". Her background vocal on "Every Storm" is definitely one of if not the best background vocals on a song I can remember the past few years. Anyways back to "Make You Miss Me" her background vocal is very good on it too.

"Make You Miss Me" got 47 adds on impact day. Second most added on Mediabase.

Radio seems to be switching to this now. It's replaced "Raised On It" in the Mediabase top 50.

I don't know why but this song is actually becoming one of my favorites. It's not country at all but I like the way it's performed, Sam Hunt finally shows his potential and owns it vocally. I also love the backing vocals as well. I just don't know why but it works for me.

My local iheart station just played "Raised on It" which is VERY unlike them to do something like that.
I also think "Make You Miss Me" is rising a little slowly and selling a little poorly for a Hunt song.

This was on Michael J show, which is syndicated iHeart.

If it's "slow" it's because it's a ballad coming into the warmer months that's the fifth single from an album that's only 10 songs (and really was 9 because "Cop Car" wasn't ever gonna be a single). It's possible the majority who would have bought this song already have the album.

It's also probably rising a bit more slowly because many stations have been and even still are playing "Raised on It," so it's probably taking a little longer for this one to take off because he's essentially competing with himself right now.

Plus it's the 5th single from the album AND radio just got blasted with new singles from Blake, Luke, Kenny, Eric, and Jake. I actually think this one's doing quite well on the sales front, given that more than 1 million people already own this song after they downloaded the full album. This was top 40 on the iTunes country chart last night, which is a pretty solid sales to spin ratio.

The sales are just fine for a fifth single from a debut album but the airplay is lagging a bit for Sam. "Make You Miss Me" has gained just 70 spins and 500k in total Mediabase audience over the past 10 days and its broke even in spins and audience the past three days. You have to factor in the big stars releasing all these new singles but this is moving quite slow compared to Sam's past few singles. Both "House Party" and "Break Up In A Small Town" had twice the spins and audience that "Make You Miss Me" has at the five week mark on Mediabase.
The fact 24 stations took it upon themselves to add "Raised On It" hasn't helped (vast understatement) but "Raised On It" is showing signs of fatigue as it lost nearly 50 spins on Mediabase this week and fell to #56. "Make You Miss Me" should be fine in terms of continuing its climb here but its definitely been Sam's slowest moving single of his career thus far.

This is just such a dull and boring song, and does t sound right as we head into the warmer months. Throw in all the big debuts recently and you get this song moving a lot slower as a result. "Speakers" or "Raised On It" would have been smarter choices IMO.

In my very personal opinion, Make You Miss Me is the last song I would have released as a single, but here we are. If I had my say, not concerned about anything, I would have released Ex To See, but I don't think anyone would have supported me with that one lol

"Raised On It" was the logical choice since radio basically has made it clear they wanted that one (24 adds for an album track says a mouthful). Plus, we're going into the warmer weather months, and ROI sounds much better in April, May, June than "Make You Miss Me."
I think the label just got too cute here. They saw the huge success of "Take Your Time" a year ago and tried to perhaps get similar success out of another slow song on the record. I would've given radio what they wanted.

I think in the long run "Make You Miss Me" will be fine, but I have always favoured "Raised On It" as the next single. In the end, the fate of a fifth single won't matter too much to Sam's momentum, but this was a poor choice, imo.

It's a shame that this song is struggling right now. This is probably the one song from his debut album I genuinely enjoy as I like the little details put in the verses also the female backing vocalist really helps.
