Sam has soared past Jon Pardi and Dan & Shay to #3 according to All Access. Um, Jon Pardi is actually ahead of Sam Hunt as of today on MB as Jon is at #3 and Sam Hunt is at #4.

Sam passed Jon yesterday, and Jon passed him back today (on Mediabase).
I'm wondering if Sam will be the next #1 after Chris Lane.

Jon's push week is this upcoming week, and it looks like he has a really easy path to #1 provided Chris and Eric start freefalling (which they should). I expect Sam's label to play nice and let Jon get his week at the top before getting into battle with Dan + Shay.

That and Jon Pardi also has a huge success hit in "Head Over Boots". Personally I'd like to see both songs attempt #1 this next week and see who comes out on top.

They've had big success, but both seemed to be peaking awhile ago. Anyway, that's just the reality of country radio in the 2010s

That would be such an artificial #1 though. Jon and Sam are both UMG artists. They'll make it known they want Jon converted to max rotation, not Sam. Judging by today's update, the push is on as "Head Over Boots" gained 75 spins, while Sam and Dan + Shay combined for 34 total spins gained. Assuming "Fix" starts dropping, I think today's update might indicate stations will buy into one more solid push for Pardi before letting go.

Yeah and that's what I mean by an artificial #1 I think it's been a big enough hit to be worthy of a #1 though. It always felt like it was connecting with listeners. The problem was stations being slow go with Jon's song. The reason it's been hovering in the top 10 is because of the burn rate with programmers and listeners. Simply putted, it should not have taken 11 months to peak. I don't like big pushes to #1 either. However in this case, it's understandable. Assuming "Fix" drops, 'someone' has to be #1 and since Jon, Dan + Shay and Sam are neck-and-neck, I see little problem with Pardi getting a first crack since his song is the eldest.

"Fix" is an artificial #1. Whoever thinks Jon is an artificial #1 surely isn't a country music fan.

If only two of Jon, Sam, and D+S were to get to #1, then the two most deserving ones would be Jon Pardi and Dan + Shay, imo. If this one got to the top over "Head Over Boots," I'd say that would be the injustice, rather than the other way around. Love this song but the other two are lead singles and both have sold exceptionally well from the get-go. Sam Hunt's fifth single has been doing quite well for a 5th release from an album, though by no means is it the high-impact hit of his previous singles.

Not sure my how pointing out that a nearly year old song receiving 1 million plus AI gains is getting an artificial push to #1 means that someone "surely isn't a country music fan". Anyway, back to Sam, if he stays ahead of Dan + Shay he will likely be #1 the following week.

Sam Hunt's fifth single has been doing quite well for a 5th release from an album, though by no means is it the high-impact hit of his previous singles. I disagree with this. Of course "Make You Miss Me" hasn't been as big of a hit as Sam's previous 4 singles...but you have to consider the fact that more than 1.1 million people already own the song from when they bought the album. And "Make You Miss Me" has actually sold extremely well, too. Sales for MYMM are already over 500,000 as a standalone track. "Head Over Boots" has sold about 550,000 and "From The Ground Up" has sold about 420,000. On Hot Country Songs, Sam is at #4 this week, Dan + Shay is at #5, and Jon is at #8 ("Head Over Boots" was #4 last week, which will probably be its peak). I think Sam is just as deserving (if not more so) of going to #1 on the airplay charts as Jon and Dan + Shay are. I don't think we have to worry about one of them missing out, though. I think Jon will finish this week at #1, then the next 2 weeks will probably be split by Sam and Dan + Shay, followed by Jake and Kelsea before Dierks gets to the top.

UMG Nashville will wait another week for "Max Spins" with "Make You Miss Me." From Country Aircheck this evening. This should pave the way for Dan + Shay to grab their second straight #1 with "From The Ground Up" next Sunday/Monday (Warner Music Nashville already made it known they're pushing for #1 this week).

Damn it, this is going to back things up another week. I was really hoping we'd see a battle this week between Sam and Shay, but at least "From The Ground Up" will be guaranteed its much deserved week at #1.

Damn it, this is going to back things up another week. I was really hoping we'd see a battle this week between Sam and Shay, but at least "From The Ground Up" will be guaranteed its much deserved week at #1. I fully expected Jon, Dan + Shay, and Sam to all get to #1, and I personally don't see how Dan + Shay and Sam each getting a week at #1 will back the chart up. I mean, look at the songs from 10-20...most of them really aren't doing much. They're the ones backing up the chart. Radio doesn't seem very excited about a lot of them, and the vast majority of them don't have nearly enough audience to even challenge for the top 10 yet. I mean, Tucker is sitting at #12 with 21 million in audience, but it usually takes about 30 million to reach #10, which means that he'd normally be about 4-5 weeks away from the top 10 yet...but he'll probably be able to get there with only 25-26 million because the area of the chart around him is so weak right now. On the flipside, the top 5 is really strong right now...but then you have Justin, Tucker, ZBB, Kip, William, and Brad (and even Blake) and radio just doesn't seem to want to push any of their songs much higher. Blake will obviously rebound, and Tucker and ZBB will probably last for several weeks yet, but the others are nearing the end of the road, and that leaves radio with few options when it comes to looking for songs to convert into top 10 rotation. Basically they're gonna be looking at pushing LoCash, Billy, Kenny, Cole, Luke, and Miranda into heavy rotation faster than they normally would because all the other songs around them are looking weak right now, or are running on fumes. And even though Kenny, Luke, and Miranda are off to fast starts (as expected), they might be able to surge through the teens extra fast (even by their standards) because, again, there aren't very many other current top 20 songs that radio seems to want to play right now. It's just a really weird chart. I'm personally glad that Sam seems likely to hit #1 with this terrific song (after Dan + Shay get their week at #1, of course). Jake and Kelsea will both likely hit #1, but then it's a long way back to Dierks (the next likely #1), and an even longer way back to LoCash, Kenny, Billy, and Luke, although Kenny and Luke will obviously be making big strides. I left out Blake because I'm not convinced that he'll be able to keep his #1 streak going with SGAWWW. He'll probably make the top 5 by default (thanks to the weak competition), but #1 is definitely not a guarantee for him this time.
